Coaster Train Storage

As ondrew hartigan was talking about the little black wheels found on B&Ms. I found a few pictures for anyone who doesn't really know what he is talking about. The first is Fire Dragon and a little bit above the harnesses and below most of the themeing you can see these little wheels http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery558.htm?Picture=19

This picture shows Nitros storage building and if you look into it you notice that there is about a foot of track in the barn and then there are some wheels in the middle. The little black wheels on the side of the trains fit right into the ledge and those middle wheels are for more support and to help it move better. You can kindof see how it all works with the train that is already in the barn. But this way there is no support on the actaul wheels http://www.rcdb.com/installationgallery1106.htm?Picture=3

I did hear in another topic in these forums that SFWoA left the X-Flight trains sitting outside covered in snow. This goes along well with the non-waterproof chain! ;-)

Well of course steel isn't waterproof (even the track). They probably put a ton of grease on the chain shortly after the season ends to keep it from weathering. Trains are built to withstand the elements, but I'm sure keeping them immobile under a blanket of snow doesn't do anything positive for 'em.

I was talking about the one that wass on the log-flume ride or whatever it was. The water ride where the chain snapped, so SF bought one that was not waterproof to save money and it broke about a day after or so? I was refferring to that, not X-Flight's chain. I was basically saying, Nice job once again, Six Flags!

It is impossible to remove and service wheelsets and the like when the train is sitting on the track.

Not really, it real possible to remove the wheel sets while the train is on the storage track, but you can only do a couple sets at a time so the train doesnt slope down, and it is real difficult.

"

Please note that I said remove AND SERVICE wheelsets when located on the track. Wheelsets can be removed on the track, but not all of them at once, as is the normal procedure. And once again, no mechanic wants to work outside, laying on their back when the temperature is 20 degrees. Please excuse me for saying impossible, that was a poor choice of words. I should have said "extremely difficult and unproductive".

It varies by park. WOF removes all the coaster trains to be overhauled, which usually occurs in the maintanence building. But after they finish, they move them back outside (there really is no room inside) and they sit for the winter...usually uncovered depending on what state of repair they are in. The Express station has a work area under the loading dock to work on trains. In the past, they have stored the third train there during the season to steal parts from for the two operating trains. They have usually removed this train (if it was there at season end) as well. Most commonly, the old Scandi turnaround is used for storage of the coaster trains, Voyager/Nile/Monsoon boats. The stored items also vary as they may be refurbishing a particular ride or ride vehicle.

As for other ride vehicles, most are removed and stored under shelter like Autobahn and the picnic areas (excluding Festhaus as they found out that snow is not a tent's friend). One picnic area includes heaters where they usually store the Zulu (enterprise) and various other fiberglass vehicles. Newly repainted vehicles are stored here as well.

It is amazing how much work actually goes on in the offseason. From repainting, to fiberglass repair, to rebuilds, retrofits and everything else they have to do. I wish some people (namely Mr. Markey) would sit and take a look at what parks actually do to make sure their parks are clean, safe and enjoyable.

I wish Six Flags would take a little more pride in caring for their attractions in the off season. Especially SFWoA.

I don't get along well with those little black wheels. When I worked at B:TR in 2001, I'd ALWAYS hit my head on those... That just might be a valid explanation for the problems I have today. :-\

I believe SFEG takes their coaster trains off and stores them inside somewhere. I have driven by numerous times this season and I don't think any train is on it's tracks. Weather they do anything with them or not as far as taking them apart is beyond me.

They also take apart a lot of the flats chairs or carts too.

Great Escape takes there trains off, and puts them in a few places. i know that the boomerang cars are stored inside the Nightmare building. the other trains are stored in another location.

I worked at BTR (SFOG) a few times that year and hit em all the time too. Guess it;s better than hitting metal though.

I haven't noticed the quoting problem.

So, why does it matter? I mean, not every post was a quote. You'll survive somehow. LOL.
