Coaster Tattoos

The thing I don't like about tattoos is that too many people get them because it's trendy. See above comments about jailhouse tattoos and roses.

But I find good tattoos fascinating. That's why I've been a member of SuicideGirls.com for so long, because I love the art (more than the boobies even!). It's amazing to see work that was done by a real artist and works as a bigger piece. Why people will spend a hundred bucks on crap that means nothing to them is strange to me. My former wife recently got these amazing dragonflies on her sides, and the guy who did them doesn't even have a store front or advertising. That's good stuff.

GregLeg, mind sharing the significance of your moniker? Just curious.

CoasterPunk you were at PPP this year? When I asked Chris Gray where you were he said you were going to see Quiet Riot In Camden.

I miss Drachen Fire

^Hopefully Camden, NJ and not Camden Park! ;)

To elaborate on Jeff's explanation (which is exactly right, but not the entire story), that was my assigned userid at my first job. My friends and I loved it, and I've used it for so long now that it's as much my name as "Greg" is. When I decided it was time for a tattoo, I wanted something that was truly "me", and what's a better representation of a self-admitted geek than his geek name in geek form?

Aha. That makes sense. I guess the "cool" version of your name would be Gregski then right. ;)

By the way, have you tried scanning it? I know with code 39 you need asterisks at the beginning and ending, do you need beginning and ending characters for code 128?

I've spent some $$$ on tattoos in the past, but I don't think I would ever get a coaster-related tattoo... I'm not sure how long I'll be into coasters. I've got several tattoos that represent different things to me, so maybe in the future I'll think up something that can be integrated into some cool looking ink :)

I was in Camden for Iron Maiden not Quiet Riot. I would have sooner been at Camden Park then Camden, NJ!

I was at Knoebels all day Sunday after PPP so you may have seen me then.

Here's the link to my blog I've been keeping after each tattoo session. *** Edited 10/24/2006 9:27:14 PM UTC by coasterpunk***

Um.... let's just say I don't want to find a "ravine coaster" on my girlfriend... hahahhaha!

That looks friggin' incredible dude. :)

When I went to cedar point this last summer this guy in front of me when waiting to get into the park had TONS of CP tattoos. Mantis, MF, TTD. Etc. He kept looking at me like he's seen me before.
Hey, someone brought this up so I had to write back...first of all sorry I have not been on in forever but joining the US Army has kept me busy and I am currently in Iraq....someone told me that you were talking about Tat's so I had to write back....

Hey Joe....That ride Op at Cedar Point was me....Jamin or Benjamin depending on the year...2000 I was on Bluestreak and 2001 I was on Millennium Force (my baby forever)....I do have coaster tat's and I love them...Raptor logo is on my right leg, Dueling Dragons on my right arm, Millennium Force on my left arm, and the ACE logo is on my back right shoulder....I love my coaster tats because they are me...

To any getting a coaster tat...do it because you want to do it and because it means something to you...the guys here laugh because I have coasters but once they learn me and my love for them it makes sense...don't ever get a tat based on what someone else thinks...they are yours and yours alone, be individual and show the world who you really are.

To those I have lost contact with message me, I am getting ready to head home from over here in the sandbox and I can't wait to have a summer again to get on some of the newer coasters....nice thing is now I live two hours from HW and four from DW so there are plenty of woodies nearby....

Talk to you all soon!

^LOL! Good stuff! I ruled out getting a lower back tattoo a long time ago. I want something that I can see easily!

Dan, your tat is looking BADASS! Beautiful!

If you ever get a lower back tat, Tina, make it a pair of handlebars. ;)

I've been trying to convince my wife to do it for years. :)

Yikes...I guess claws/paw prints are more ubiquitous than I thought. I have some paw prints on my calf! Nothing to do with the Beast. They are like the ones on Eve's (female rapper) chest.

Fate is the path of least resistance.

It's been a while since I've scanned it, but it did indeed scan when I had it done. That was almost 10 years ago now, though. The ink has faded and blurred just a bit (happens no matter how much you take care to keep sun off of it), so I'm not sure it's machine-readable anymore, but it's still very clear what it is.

Code 128 does contain Start, End, and Check characters, but they are not reported as part of the payload, so the result really does just say "GregLeg".
