coaster taller than dragster?

Yea, you didn't see the press release on that one?

Yeah, but just a 200' section of the track itself, the part that twists on the way down the other side of the top hat. They want to give more of a freefall sensation to the ride. The bleachers will have a new purpose--for people to watch and see how the trains land. I'm going to CP early next year...y'know, before they run out of trains.
No, that was the old way they were considering. The actual information is that since the top supports got bent when they were doing construction (you can see that in most of the pictures, it's about 2/3 of the way up the tower, ask RAZORE, he has all the info) and they had to "jury-rig" it as it stands right, it's pretty unstable. The top part after the bend in the supports has to be removed and since they were having so many problems, they just decided it's better to leave it off. They probably already knew about the GAdv coaster too, because otherwise they would have just added an extra 50 feet of tower to take the record back.

Check back a couple of weeks, the press release is in there.

I think I see what your talking about (The bend in the support)... That Don't look very safe to me.

But, why not just fix it? God knows they have the money.

It's really not that safe. Just goes to show you what happens when construction workers try and cover their mistakes. Let that be a lesson to ya - if you make a mistake, just own up to it and fix it right, don't just take a blowtorch to a $25 million dollar ride ...

Well haven't you been following the thread? GAdv is building a bigger one. Since it's not the record breaker anymore, they just figured to throw in the towel and save the money for the next coaster.

Plus, from the scrap metal sale, they can cut the costs of the next record-breaker significantly.

So, if you want to experience Dragster in it's original form, you have 6 more weekends ...

Landon, don't let the chatter-boxes on this site fool you. TTD is fine and it will not be changed in any way for next season.

Frankly, I think the quality of discussion here on the Buzz has gone downhill as of late with all of this shop-talk, inside jokes and noise.

Mods, you should be closing topics when these folks get to the jabber-jawing.

Pass da' sizzrup, bro!

Ok... Im going to contact CP and ask them what they have planed to do with the ride.

--Brett, shootin' for Screamscape ...

Can someone point me to the official press release by the park?

It's like shooting fish in a barrel, isn't it.

So much so that I wonder who's really playing who.

I have a hard time believing we stumbled onto pancake nirvana this easily.

If Razore wouldn't have deleted his posts, we'd have hall of fame material here.

There is nothing about TTD on cedar points News area of there site.

I'll get the syrup ;)

Really? Well it's possible they're reconsidering their plan since Great Adventure hasn't officially announced their ride yet, so no one, not even Cedar Point knows the true statistics of the new ride.

I'd say check back in a couple of weeks, but that guy in the yellow pinstripes and hat near Iron Dragon is rarely wrong, and that's who first leaked this info to me. As a structural engineer, I know I would get nervous stepping onto the ride ...

Hey Landon, did you also hear that Magnum is going to need a couple of million worth of work to jack it back up out of the ground? The helix dropped about 2' over the course of this year. All kinds of problems in Sandusky ...

--Brett, who's glad he has the approval of at least one mod ;)

Don't mistake apathy for approval :)

I should be doing something, but you have me hooked. I have to know what's going to happen to TTD.

No I did not know that Mag was sinking. Although, it would not surprise me. They seem to have all kinds of trouble up there! I think they should just pack up and move!!!! lol :-)) coasters and all.... (Just Kidding) *** Edited 9/21/2004 6:32:24 PM UTC by Landon***

Ha, duly noted ;)

Well yea, but moving isn't going to solve a completely bent support structure. Maybe get it out of the winds, but that's about all. But there was that Japanese buyer for Magnum, maybe they could try and pawn off TTD on them and just not tell them that it's a defect? Just tell them "hey, it was designed that way". Trade for Dodonpa or something so they can still have a signature coaster to replace the two they'd lose. I'd still buy a season pass.

How ironic ... ;)

Actually, I was thinking MORonic, Brett... ;)

--George H

Ahhh moving may not solve the current bent support problem, but if they fix it. it would prevent it from happening again. If they just "Jack Up" Magnum, then it will just sink again. and they will have to jack it back up again... But no, I dont see CP up and moving anytime soon.

Well I just received an interesting email from CP. Apparently the ridership on Iron Dragon increased this year to a level that had not been in years. They think that there is some correlation to this and the new paint scheme that it received. So with that in mind they plan on painting Corkscrew and Cedar Creek Mine Ride Red and Yellow as well. They figure that since it worked for ID it will work for those two as well.

I also asked them about the removal of the top 200' section of TTD. According to them it is only the top 194' section and that people are blowing it out of perspective.

And there you have it....

-SS

They've already had to raise Magnum a couple of times in the past, so it's really nothing new, but it is an expensive fix. It's rumored that they didn't put the cooling system in TTD originally because they needed the money to fix Magnum. It is possible to somehow stop the sinkhole under Magnum, but they'd have to get clearance from the Army to dig in the lake and fill in the limestone caves under Magnum, which would then get the local cave-explorers on their case, not to mention the EPA. It'd just be a mess. I think they're better off selling to Japan - better to use the cash to rebuild something else in a more stable location than to lose a great ride.

Yea, but what if the contractors screw up again and bend another support, or worse, bend one of the ones that's there right now. Then they'd have a huge mess on their hands and might have to take the whole ride out. It's certainly a gamble, but since it's for our safety, I'm all for it.
