I was struck with an idea the other day. I was thinking it would be cool if Coasterbuzz had available for download a database for some popular Palm OS database program the list of coasters and parks.
For example, one popular Palm OS database program is HanDBase which allows users to make or download custom databases. I've set up a mini-database for my own track record on my Palm with it with fields for park name, coaster name, my rating, designer, etc.
If you're a Disney pin collector you can see that www.pinpics.com has created a similar database of all of the known pins that are out there. There are by far fewer coasters in the world than there are Disney pins, so I think this might be feasable.

I'm skipping that route. Eventually I'll have a mobile wireless version. PalmOS is so last year. ;)

So is VertiGo.
Wait, I see your point.
Seriously, more people still use PalmOS than you'd think, even with all the PocketPC devices out there. Anyway, if you decide to change your mind I'll be more than happy to help out with the database. :)

Hey, I've had a Palm by my side for four years, and while it does a fabulous job for what it's supposed to do, I have a feeling the Pocket PC market is about to get a whole lot bigger by way of being affordable.

I started out as a WinCE user, with a Casio E-105. When the Palm Visors came out, I also bought one of those, strictly for OmniRemote.
When my trusty 4+ year old Casio died a few months ago (the screen cracked, rendering the "touch" part of "touch screen" useless) I started using my Visor as my PDA. Guess what, I miss my old WinCE device, and am now waiting for some spare cash to buy a PocketPC.
Not that it has direct relevance. The suggestion is a decent one, but there's only so much free time in a day :)

That's freakin' awesome. I'm probably going to buy one of those! I'll wait and decide once I see final specs. I'm mostly interested in display quality. Now all we need is a cheap way to get them connected wirelessly. The ability to us an IBM micro drive would be sweet too though.
Edit: Oh yeah, there is a database for ya'll with palm devices. Here: Coaster Trip There was a post on RRC a while back about it.

I'm still holding out on getting any kind of Pocket PC device myself until they make one with affordable wireless access. Palm did one that was pretty reasonable, but it was light on features.

I think I may be waiting a long time.

James, I think a long time in an understatement. LOL.
If I remember correctly, the wireless palm was about 500 bucks. Like you said, skimppy on features, and still expensive to connect. Sprint is getting close. 20MB for 39.99 a month. Still very high though. And the device would have to be able to handle a type II PC Card, which cost a mere $250! I read an article the other day that said when wireless companies make it cheap to get connected, they'll be back on top. I think that may be somewhat of an obvious statement. But the companies do need to realized the potential in making wireless access cheap.

As an existing Sprint PCS customer and a laptop owner, the PCMCIA wireless card is actually somewhat tempting, but I really can't justify the cost yet. Of course, it'd be great for posting trip reports, as long as I'm in a Sprint-covered area (which is actually pretty good and getting better -- even when I was at Indiana Beach I had a decent Sprint non-roaming signal)

I'm still partial to PalmOS. It's just a lot more user friendly. Once the next gen Palm OS based machines with the higher mhz. processors come out, the playing field will be level once again.
