Coaster Myths and Misconceptions

Impulse coasters with holding brakes: "OMG! One of these times, the train will get stuck up there!"
While in Raging Bull's line i heard a guy look at one of the helix's and say

"so this ride has two loops but, they are laying on the ground"

and the numerous sayings of people falling out of Giant drop. Now the count must be up to about 104 from all the people i hear about it.

Your so "emo" you make happy meals cry.

It's great to listen to the comments from the people who have IQs of 2000 when they walk by the entrance for Milennium Force. Nothing against very highly intelligent people but some of their comments are... well, you can make your own opinions on this one!

<<"The approximate force of a .3 ounce female house-fly, flying at 30 MPH hitting the skin complexion of a human face of a person traveling on the train of the roller coaster at 93 MPH shall equal enough force to imprint a 2/51 of an inch sized bruise that if untreated could last up to 13 minutes and 22 seconds. I do not think this roller coster is one for me.">>

When in line for Chaos at CP, I heard these two girls nearby saying "One of these ride disc things broke off and rolled away down the street once and killed everyone on it."

Who the hell is Jeff Mast???

A "rollback" is the same thing as a "valley" (as in, when the train stops mid-course in a place it is not supposed to). There's no standard definition in the industry. That said, I've *never* heard the term "reverse cycle". And for fun, I asked someone who was a supervisor of a Vekoma boomerang, and he hadn't heard the term either. When the train on a boomerang (or GIB) stops anyplace except for the station or either of the two lifts, that's a valley (or rollback, or even "reverse cycle" if that's the term you prefer). One exception to this, I suppose, would be with Deja Vu, when the brakes kick in at the bottom of lift two to stop the train if it releases early from the lift - but then that's a place the train is supposed to stop, and can be easily rescued from. The only other I can think of would be in the case of Demon where it stopped upsidedown, but that's a rare instance.

Re: Chaos

That's about 50% accurate.

Nearby any hyper: "This doesn't go upside down. It must suck."

Also, "This is the tallest ride in the world." Often followed by, "No, <insert park> has <insert ride> which is <insert extremely large number> feet taller."

My shirt in my photo seems to be for "Aging Bull"

"I heard roller coasters give you brain damage..."

"Jessica, you're turning me into a criminal, when all I want to be is a petty thug." -Bart Simpson

Here's another I forgot to mention. I once heard a ride op for Villian at SFWoA tell a guy, " Oh yeah, this is the tallest wooden coaster in the world."
Some of my friends still say, after me telling them it's imposible many times, that a girl's hair got caught on the top of Giant Drop and when it dropped her face got ripped off.

------------------
"To overcome the spiders curse, simply quote a bible verse. Thou shalt not...uh, screw this."
"Hey, that looks like Princess Diana. Oh wait, it's just a pile of rags."

I can only think of one right now but anyway standing in line for Thunder Cayon at cp. A lady asked me if she was going to get wet on this ride. while saying that we were standing on a bridge watching rafts get soaked by waterfalls.

TOP THRILL DRAGSTER I await your coming see you on may 4

About 5 years ago at school I heard "No, American Eagle is the world's tallest roller coaster." And then everyone started agreeing on it.

Also when I go with my to SFGAm, they aklways ask me questions about the coatsers or even try to tell ME about them. And of course they're wrong.

On BTR: "What do you call that thing?"

It's a zero-g roll."

"Oh, so there are two of them."

or: "Iron Wolf has the biggest loop at the park"

-that was when Shockwave was open too

or: "Make sure you have the seatbelt connected to your retraint or you'll fall out"

One of my favorites for an Impulse: What if the train goes to fast and flys off the tower" or: Make sure you hold on tight on the 2nd tower when it stops or you'll fall out."

I've heard this one three times from three different people:

"Last time I was at Cedar Point, Millennium Force was closed because they couldn't get the speed below 115 mph so they closed it."

I also like:

"I love the old rickety woodies like Gemini!"

A day is a drop of water in the ocean of eternity. A week is seven drops.

And the number one myth or misconception is, "Rollercoasters are dangerous." Heard not only from the GP, but also from the press and Ed Markey.

A few classics I've heard...

"Gemini is a wooden coaster."

"MegaZeph is a steel coaster."

"Goliath is the first coaster ever to have a loop that lays down."

[while pointing to the B&M crotch-breaker on Riddler's] "See, there IS a seat... this is NOT a stand-up coaster."

Most of the "uninformed" at SFMM still think Colossus is the largest wooden coaster in the world. I hear that almost every time I'm in line for it.

Also, most people think that X's rotations are arbitrary, and can therefore be different on another lap. One guy behind me in line was CONVINCED that this was true because he went on it twice, and the "flippies" were completely different on his two rides.

SCREAM with me... in 2003!

Soggy, someone used the word "Flippies" that is hilarious!

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!

Just stuff I've heard people say about Nitro:

"Nitro's taller than the Eiffel Tower, which is like 900 feet tall!"

"Nitro goes up to 6 G's right?"

"Those seats don't look safe; that little tiny restraint can't hold you in"

I also once heard a guy say while looking at the Hulk's zero-g roll, "Is that net there to catch people?"

Also, I thought Fabio did get hit by a bird on Apollo...
