Coaster Marathoning

Friday, August 23, 2002 7:44 PM
I would like to Marathon on Raging Bull since it's a real sleeper (JK, sorta) No, I'd want to marathon on Viper or Demon but since I'd never done it, I would HATE to have to set it up with the park and then find out that it was nothing like I expected. How do you get into marathoning and how do you "find out?"

Usually radio or tv stations are the ones who sponser marathons to give away prizes. I don't think parks usually put them on unless they have one for some sort of celebration or fund raiser. You may want to try and contact a charity they might be intrested in doing one to raise money.

A bunch of us GTTP'ers marathon rode Gemini last year and got the 100 laps we were going for. 23 started I think 8 or 11 of us finished. We got NOTHING for it nor did CP sponsor it. Although they did "acknowledge" it some what in their "2002 Coasters of Cedar Point" booklet:

Gemini:
"....even riders who have ridden Gemini 100x in one day agree that no 2 rides are ever the same"

I KNOW for a FACT they were indeed referring to us! :)

i've been thinking avout this subject for a while now. sfgam being my home park i would probably pick raging bull or viper. sorry demon is too painfull

i am willing to ride all day if someone lets me. if we were to get a groop together we could probably get to do it on a week day. maybe sometime soon? i might be able to get a radio station or two to sponser us for charity.

Count me in!! I love Raging Bull! I would go anyday. The most I've gotten in one day of Raging Bull is only 23 but I've been known to set records on other rides. (50 in one day on Wild Thing, 63 on Yankee Clipper (Now Ice Mountain Splash) in one day etc.)

Yeah I would love to marathon on Viper especially. It would be do able too on a light day. If you do like coasterpunk and get someone to sponsor it and maybe try and raise money for charity it would be great. I know of a radio station that would do it in a second in fact I might just email them right now.

edit: we should probably pick 1 ride. more than likely it will be viper from what i have read although i would prefer raging bull.

Well I really wouldn't wanna do it on RB, I'd rather do it on an exciting ride. (Sorry, I'm just not an RB fan at all.) I love the Demon, there is really only one rough part and that is the entrance to the corkscrews. Maybe we could get them to play the Demon song too! I'd love to do it on Viper too, that would be my second choice. My third choice would be Batman, and then Whizzer, I don't think I'd really want to do it on any other coasters though. V2 would get old real fast, I would do Iron Wolf but I'd probably be a lone rider. AE would be okay but it would lose it's "specialness" that I always look forward to. Count me in, now I just gotta get a ride!

Edit: I would GLADLY do it on RB if they took the trims off for the day! And yes if that was my only choice I would do it on RB.

I've always wanted to ACTUALLY marathon. Day and night. Break the record. Although normally this sorta thing doesn't happen and most parks if you ask them about doing it there, they don't like to host events like that.

If someone is going to marathon, count me in because I would love to do it at SFGAm, I just don't know how you go about doing something like that. Yeah, does anyone know the record?

I've tried to find it but have found different numbers everytime.

I don't think they count by number of rides but actual time because all coasters have different durations.

Perhaps we could have a marathon on American Eagle, that would be fun.

I personally think all those who wish to do such a marathon would consider doing it at a family owned or struggling park as a way to raise money to help the place out (such as the Blue Streak Marathon).

Just some food for thought :)

Yeah but the closest small park to me is Little A-merrick-a, the next is BCKC, and while I'd love to do it at BCKC, not many live nearby there!

I'll marathon for any non- Arrow SFGAm coaster (accept Iron Wolf). But hey, I'm a cheap guy, so if i have to pay, NO WAY!

Any B:TR would be difficult to marathon... the most I can ride is just about 10 times before I begin to dizzy...

At SFoT, I could marathon Texas Giant all day, but Wildfire at SDC would be very easy and awesome to marathon... (gotta love that first drop!)
