Coaster Mania 2002

Dunk and Steel Raptor you both crack me up. You blast us for defending SFMM in another thread, yet someone who is not falling over with praise for Cedar Point "doesn't know what he's talking about". You've completely revealed yourselves as the CP fanboys you really are.

joey isch- I did not ride Blue Streak because I went to meet with friends. It's a great coaster, but I did not figure I needed to ride it after getting 20 rides last year when I went with my school band. And, I my friends were in no big rush either.

Dunk- I am not sorry that I misspelled Magnum. I have big fingers and some times hit the key next to the one I want, and I don't always have the time to proof read.

GhettoCoaster- The ride on Raptor was rough for me. I don't normally like inverts because of problems with my legs.

Steelraptor- I am sorry you must not experanced many other parks becides the one in Ohio.

Well I guess we are even then, huh MM fanboy?

Hey, I was with Dan 96% of the day. This TR is accurate. No we didn’t accidentally end up in Michigan’s Adventure. We were at CP, definitely. Front seat of MF was nice but still it doesn’t have any airtime…all speed. I would much rather ride any Superman. And seriously we did get bored, the entire park is corporate. I met an employee while Coasterman Mike was off taking pictures. I was sitting on a bench waiting for MF to come around, to take a picture, and she said, “Hi, how is your day.” Scared me half to death. I jumped and then she said, “Did I scare you.” I nodded and she told me how nice it was to have me in the park. Ya nice that an employee is making conversation but I just wanted to take pictures.Tip for all of you: When attending CP don’t eat cheese on a stick and then go do Dance Dance Revolution and then go eat more at the picnic. I know I wasn’t feeling goodWhen we arrived at SFWoA there were NO lines, maybe 15 minutes tops on Le Villian and Batman. But still, barely any wait. We went we know what we’re talking about. We had fun and then we left. We went to another park and then left for home. WE had a nice day, we enjoyed ourselves. Everyone has their own views about ever park and every coaster. You should respect everyone’s opinions. If you hate one of my favorite parks, I am not going to tell you that you’re wrong, I will simply nod and RESPECT your opinion. If we prefer a park over another it is OUR opinion. I am not a big MF fan because I’m not a speed junkie. But I like Magnum in the back seat, besides a few spine crunchers I thought it was good, FYI it was my first ride on Magnum.I had a great day,FriendsCoastersAnd FunTwo parks in one day, I’m happy.Emily

I am glad you liked SFWoA more than CP...so go spend your time there and leave shorter Magnum and MF lines for me! :)

Confirmed by the Lemon Chill Guy: Area 51 will contain the world's tallest, longest, fastest-running, coldest Lemon Chill Stand!

Anyone who thinks MF has all speed and no airtime obviously blacked out on 4 hills.

What steel gigacoaster have you ridden that has more air time than MF? Might be worth the trip if it has the speed, drop angle and smoothness of MF.

This will be a great trip if it is close!

Sorry buddy, I'm a Knott's and Disney fanboy. ;)

I didn't go, but completley agree with dan.

Timberguy, the question is bs to begin with figuring only 2 people on this whole site have even been on SD2k. Also there are way too many CP fanboys on this site. On page 1 of COASTERBUZZ general there were 12, yes 12 topics directly regarding CP, there is a place called GTTP, go there and talk about CP.

I think CP is a mediocre thrill park with only 3.5 good coasters (Gemini, MF (#2 drop), Wildcat, & Magnum is the .5). Im not a SF fanboy, im an amusement park fanboy.

Since Jeff made Track Record a "perk" for CB members i'll just post my count here: Coasters:99 Parks:14

I am in fact more partial to many other parks other than CP. Hershey Park, PKI, Islands of Adventure, Six Flags all top my list. Since this is a coastermania forum topic I chose to brag about what a great time and park CP is. I have spent time on Santa Monica Pier and in Wildwood NJ on some dinky piers, and enjoyed it. I rather enjoy the smaller family parks that don't have execs running around trying to control everything.

I love it how one person says a couple of not so great things, NOTE: not once did Dan ever say or rate any of the rides or staff below average, about the park that everyone who is a CP crazed fanatic jumps on them and starts tearing at every single little bit and does their best to make that person seem like they are the one who is outragously(SP?) wrong. When I logged on to these boards did I see a banner informing me that these are strictly CP Fan Boards.

While I do agree with some of Dan's comments there are others that a person, like myself who has been visiting CP at least once a year for the past 6 years, would disagree with.

Personally I thought the Raptor crew was doing a great job. Xtremely min. stacking at all but to make up for their speed they lost the person to person interaction I saw in years past.

It maybe just me, quite possibly me, but i've grown tired to visiting CP. The park lacks re-rideable rides mostly do in part to the incredibly long waits. Of course this is all IMO and shouldn't be taken personally by anyone. I've contributed to the park by buying a CF Season Pass becuase I look forward to what CP will have to offer in the near future.(whatever it maybe)

So I guess if someone dont think the absolute best of the park, they must be wrong. Huh?

Nah, it's not that, I think most of us just need more than, "I like [your coaster here] better." My God, if that's the best you can do in a trip report, please, don't go next time! I'd love to see the crowds thin out a little at CoasterMania.

And Mike... this is not CP holy land you're posting on here. Even the biggest fan boy can be the park's harshest critic (myself included). We've had our fill of getting on them about $3 sodas and that stupid "ticket to ride" nonsense from a few years back.

Of course, CoasterMania was no CoasterBuzzCon at PKI either... ;)

"As far as I can tell it doesn't matter who you are. If you can believe, there's something worth fighting for..." - Garbage, "Parade"

And Jeff, that's the real reason why I read GTTP. That's the ONLY place where you can read the real opinions on the park. If you've noticed, and I'm sure you have, you hardly ever see any CP fan critizing CP on CoasterBuzz, though you see it quite often on GTTP. It's almost like CP has a "safer haven" on the site dedicated to ALL parks than on its own "private" nook. HINKEY ;)

And let's be honest for just a second, the MAJORITY of trip reports have some degree of coaster comparison in them.

Finally, there was at least *one* less person at CoasterMania this year :)

Good point guys.

The one thing I can't understand is this need to cover up less than stellar things about your favorite park, or even worse, to not want anyone to say negative things about it to, in some insane way, keep it's image "totally" un-tarnished. It's not realistic, and really only makes people hate and resent the park rather than appreciate the great things about it.

You'll never find a bigger Knott's Berry Farm fanboy than me. Yet I won't hesitate to ream the park for running one train on Ghostrider, or the slow ride ops from time to time. Is that going to stop me from going to what is otherwise a beautiful theme park, or anyone else for that matter? Hell no. Is Knott's image forever tarnish by a couple of bad visits? I think not.

Anything run by human beings are subject to foul-ups. Why do people want to pretend that Cedar Point is any different? It's still a great place to visit no matter how you slice it.

The one thing I will say is, I hate when people make stuff up to more strongly make their point. And they think we're all too stupid to read right through it. "Rude ride ops" and "dirty bathrooms" have become cliches that quickly clue me in that the writer is trying to BS me. Ride ops don't do much more than make sure your fastened and send you on their way. They just don't have time to be rude or show you much of their personality at all. Dirty bathrooms simply need to be cleaned, big deal.

That's a good point. Honestly, I've been to a bunch of parks: Six Flags, Cedar Fair, independents, etc and it is rare to find a "rude" ride op at any of them. I find that there is often a great deal of difference in the "enthusiasm" and speed of the ops across various parks (and even across different crew in the same park), but rarely are any of them really rude - even at Six Flags New England, the park that I have ripped on for having horrid operations. Slow? Yes. But rude? Not really. CP has a reputation for having the fastest crews and I really appreciate that when I go to visit and that reputation was a big part of why I chose to work there rather than some park closer to home last year. I don't need to have an intimate conversation with an op in order for me to consider them friendly. I'd much rather they just work hard to get people through the lines as fast and safely as possible. If I happen to ask them something, which is rare, I'd expect them to be decent to me, but honestly, you can't expect an op to talk to every one of the 20,000 people who ride every day. :)

danfromtheposse, you missed the 10pm-12am of continuous Mean Streak riding. I wish I got there earlier instead of riding MF. That crew was totally cool and a TON of fun.

Hey man. Wanna buy some weed? Crack? Freepass on Millennium Force? I got the hook up...

When I rated the employees I just did not rate the ops. It was everyone. There was a TV crew there doing a story and a member of the PR staff wanted to show what the coastermania pins looked like, but gave me a dirty look for wearing another park on my shirt.

And when I do rate things I rarely give 9 or 10 beccause I save those ratings for a ride, park, ect. that is way abobe average.

I seriousely doubt the PR person (Janice?) gave you a dirty look for wearing another parks shirt to CPs CM. Even I, (the well known, ever famous Raptor Jo :)) has worn my Talon, Medusa, Nitro, and Cyclone shirts to CP and NO CP staff gave me a dirty look, nor said anything negative. Quite the contrary, I get razzed ALOT about liking Talon as much as I do! The fact remains especially at CoasterMania there are ENTHUSIASTS there, of course they will be sporting other parks, or coaster shirts.
On the flip side of that I ALWAYS wear a CP or Raptor shirt when I visit another park. No dirty looks from anyone at the other parks either! :)

Jo, count me among those who LOVE Talon......gimme gimme those compact Beemer layouts....but the finishing helix on Raptor still ranks very high!

No, I think the park folks appreciate that we aren't "dissing" their park when we wear attire from another park....it just makes us easier to spot so we can join up with fellow "enthusiasts". If I wear a CP shirt to CP, I blend in with the crowd too easily....."good" PR folks, like the ones from HW, PKI, CP, etc. recognize that and appreciate our *enthusiasm*. Now if it was a scheduled TV shoot or something, the "rules" are a bit different......
