Coaster fans ponder the future of Son of Beast at PKI

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

Son of Beast broke five world records and drew roller-coaster fans from across the country to Kings Island when it burst from its lair in 2000. Now, some wonder about the future of the wooden giant. Will it reopen? If not, will the park get a new coaster to take its place?

Hmmm...and prior to Son of Beast he did the WBMW coaster, and one other that was built by Bill Cobb. Hmmmmm.....

I haven't been on the ride, so I can't say for myself how bad it is, but if it's as bad as everybody says, maybe they should remove it. From what I understand, SOB has been a boatload of trouble for PKI. If it's more trouble than it's worth, than maybe they should look at removing it.

However if the cost of removing the ride is too high, I think that they should just have the ride retracked.

maybe they should remove it,but I road it only once last summer and thought it was one of the best wooden roller coasters I have ever been on so I would be sad to see it go*** This post was edited by vrgnrster 7/21/2006 8:10:42 PM ***
ok i see my post yesterday was removed hmmmm oh well first off you DO NOT tear down a 20 million dollar coaster after only 6 years just becasue there was a problem hmmm lets see how about they try something else hmmm what could they do hmmmm oh i got FIX IT.ok look at the beastbuilt in 1979 cost 4 million what ever happened to that ride? hmmm oh ya it is still running strong!if you had to foot the bill for these rides most of you would go out and buy some duck tape to fix it. if they would for some unknow reason tear down son of the beast it would be a big down fall for one of the best wooden coaster on earth.if tou have never been on son of the beast why are you even posting about it. you would not go up to a house and try to sell something that you dont even know what it does or is so dont comment on a ride you have never been on
Cedar Fair needs to take a page out of Kennywood's book and "remix" Son of Beast just like the Steel Phantom was redone. Son of Beast is the last coaster to make me shiver, just by glancing up at its menacing physical stature. However, when I recently returned to the park this summer I only rode it only once because it was too rough to handle for my aging 25 year old body. I'd rather pay 5 bucks to some kids to kick me down a hill and beat the **** out of me, than ride it again. However, I feel it's a complete waste to entirely replace something this menacing. Perhaps they can leave the lift hill and drop, re-locate the loop, and please, OH PLEASE, RID US OF THE BRAKES ON THE FIRST DROP!!!
