CNN talking about a coaster being built for 2003!

They were counting on revenue from the Stratosphere project, but that didn't happen.

I agree with Big Kirby....they would just be dumb not to put the thing over Ole' Vegas.

When I was there, walking from the Stratosphere down to the Adventuredome was not a nice trip. There must've been hundreds of ad's laying on the sidewalk...and they weren't good ads, lol. Then, there's probably about 10 acres + worth of dirt just laying on your right, in between the Stratosphere and Circus Circus. Then to the left....both before and after Wet N' Wild/Sahara....there's tons of little wedding chapels and a bunch of strip clubs.

I don't know why they wouldn't want to build that coaster there. It would distract everybody from all the the sex flying around that part of town.

Edit: I just wanted to say, I thought of a name for this coaster, lol. Since it will be in that part of the town, and it will be absolutely huge.......They could call it Giant Whore!

Although I am a coaster enthusiast ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY! They should NOT build the Stratosphere ride. The part of Los Vegas they wanna build it over is the historic part of town. Looking up and seeing a GIANT coaster on top of them would ruin it and there would be no more Ole Vegas. I'm not against them building a ride off the top of the tower but NOT in the direction that they want it built. It deserves to be shot down.

That area is a Sh** hole dude! We drove through it going to the Stratosphere. The Eye sore thing is a major load crap (a giant 1000+ ft. tower doesn't bother them?). From what I learned from my grandma they had a hard time get approval to even build the Stratosphere. Through some zoning board changes, etc. they finally got that approved. I would surprise me if it eventually got built. It was brought back from bankruptcy once and they are pretty aggressive on getting stuff done.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I thought historic Vegas was Fremont street, which is still quite a ways from the strip. Yeah, and that whole area around stratosphere is really crappy. I would like to see it built, but think of the arguments that would come up. ;)

Yeah, you're right, Starburst and Golden Nugget are not on Las Vegas Boulevard, they're on the "real" historic part of las Vegas. And if you ask me, the Big Shot looks fine, but they started ruining the look of the tower when they added High Roller.

Yeah, I'm not a Vegas buff but I was thinking that Old Vegas is Actually Downtown. I just didn't know for sure.

I like Trekker Park's name idea best. Anything along those lines would fit perfectly, lol.

The way that they were talking about it on CNN it seemed like they were totally opposed to the idea of a coaster that tall. I still don't think that it's Vegas that is getting that coaster. The way that they described it seemed as though it is a continuous circuit which would rule out the Vegas coaster. Did anyone else see the show that can help me out here?

I actually do like how they did the support structure for over the street, but heres my question, would they load people from the 90 degree angle, or would the track "tilt" using the new tilting technology, and how would the car get hauled back up? If they use the cable catch that invertigos and boomerangs use, they risk miscatching and having to evacuate in the middle of the street, therefor having to block off a section of the street.

Just like Valley Vu. Only that would be one heck of a time carting that thing back up. A very long time indeed.

Since everyone is giving their two cents to the name, here's my thought. Shaped like a hook right? How bout the Hooker?

Well if you think about it, that train would be traveling well over 150 MPH (I'm not into the physics, so give or take whatever). Hitting anything, like bugs or whatever, would be painful. On a 600-700' tall coaster, I don't think I'd mind being enclosed.

The ride will only get up to 120mph because 120mph is the speed at which things freefall. No coaster can get over 120mph unless it has motors or something.

I think it was figured some time that the ride would hit terminal velocity at around 125mph~.

It would be a lot higher than that. They would have to have some trim brakes.

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.

So, (w/o motors) no coaster can go over 125mph?

1. S:RoS @ SFNE 2. Yankee Cannonball 3. Cyclone/B:TDK

I believe that is what people came up with way back when this ride looked like a possible reality. With friction and wind resistance, it would be between 120-125~ mph.
