CNN talking about a coaster being built for 2003!

I was watching CNN earlier tonight. They were talking about rollercoasters, and how big is too big. It was like a 10 - 15 minute news show. There is a park in the US that has been granted a permit to build a coaster over 600'. They didn't say what park it was. Stratosphere in Las Vegas, and Cedar Point were the first two places that I thought of that would build something that size. I believe the Stratosphere coaster had been shot down. It really has me wondering what park it is. Did anyone else see that show?
I really really really doubt CP will get a 600' coaster, they were most likly refering to the stratosphere.....

I don't think CP will see a 600 ft coaster...in 2003. Maybe in the future, but not 2003.

I highly doubt, just like everyone, that CP is building a 600 ft. coaster. But, last I heard, the stratosphere project was shot down again, and they had stopped their attempts at getting it passed.

Unless they all of a sudden got everything passed, it isnt stratosphere. What could it be? Maybe they were referring to the project trying to be passed at stratosphere. I guess we'll find out in 2003.

what exactly is this stratosphere project ?? i've never heard of it.
Ondrew, its a Arrow Fishook type ride.

Well, assuming that you really did hear this...

They must have been referring to the Stratosphere. If I remember correctly, they DID get permission to build ~600ft, but then the locals complained about the noise and the ride was shot down. If it hadn't been for complaints, the ride may very well have been in operation by now.

That's exactly right, but the ride proposed was over 700 ft. Stratosphere then shortened the ride for reapproval. Must've gone through without a hitch. Cool, I'm headed to Vegas next year in that case.

Take it up a notch, Mr. Operator! I wanna feel my brains in my feet!

I stayed at the stratosphere in june, and on display one of the nights was a model of the yellow fish hook ride. It showed the cars and about a 5' tall model of the ride, which leads me to believe that the ride is actually going to be built sometime. I know this has been brought up here in the past, just thought I'd remind you guys...

Yea, they were still trying to get it passed. I wouldn't be upset if they build it, I won't be upset if they don't build it. SO, i doubt it'll be next year, maybe if they think of a way to get rid of the noise.

First of all, the Strartosphere coaster was supposed to be 700', but at that height, I guess you could give or take 100'. And secondly, an Arrow Fishook has enclosed cars, won't that take away most of the fun? Are there any other coasters with enclosed cars?

I'm sitting shiva for CCI.

Well if you think about it, that train would be traveling well over 150 MPH (I'm not into the physics, so give or take whatever). Hitting anything, like bugs or whatever, would be painful. On a 600-700' tall coaster, I don't think I'd mind being enclosed.

Although I am a coaster enthusiast ARE YOU PEOPLE CRAZY! They should NOT build the Stratosphere ride. The part of Los Vegas they wanna build it over is the historic part of town. Looking up and seeing a GIANT coaster on top of them would ruin it and there would be no more Ole Vegas. I'm not against them building a ride off the top of the tower but NOT in the direction that they want it built. It deserves to be shot down.

I think it was figured some time that the ride would hit terminal velocity at around 125mph~.

What has happened to the project since Arrow went belly-up? Weren't they the designer/manufacturer of the ride?
