Clementon Park

The way Clementon can GROW it's buisness is to be OPEN when it says its going to be open. I know three people that went at least two different times on days SCHEDUALED open either to find it closed or rented by a company.

Chuck

Yes Larry Baker the Previous owner did not run the place to well.
He even refused to attend the ACE eastcoaster events to promote his new Tsunami coaster.

As noted this park will run like a park should in the future and as a local I'm very excited. *** Edited 11/9/2007 5:44:42 PM UTC by PcMan***

Baker was a first-class idiot when it came to owning and operating the park. This is the guy that hired S&S (represented by Denise Dinn, who previously left Cliff's with a half-completed wood coaster when CCI went under) to build a wood coaster and the disappeared to Florida for the winter and returned to find his coaster half-completed because of a bunch of problems he knew nothing about. Old, popular attractions were removed and replaced with lesser rides, and people noticed. Then there was the nagging issue of the park not being open when it should have been open. I expect the new owners will do a much better job of running the park... at least I hope they will.
Back when I visited in 2005 I thought it was a park with a lot of potential. Great woodie, cool flume, and some alright flats...here's hoping for a bright future!

I survived a Japanese typhoon and the Togo flat ride of death!!!!!!
i, (we) are all very excited that things will be different and for the better. Jack Rabbit is coming down veryyyyy soon.

big things for 2008-2010!
Jswiga
lets us know when they start tearing down Jack Rabbit.
I live down the road and need to see this

thanks

I will be sad that the Jack Rabbit is being torn down but it's probably for the best due to the shape it was in the last time I was at the park 2 seasons ago.

I hope they can use that area to add a few flats to the park to replace the ones they removed recently.

Watch the tram car please....

I just looked at your photos, Jswia.

Why in the heck are they just ripping the Falling Star Apart? If they pulled it down and stored it, they could sell off parts on Ebay, or sell it back to Chance Rides.

Unless of course they already tried that....

-Pcman once the arcade and star are completely removed the jack rabbit demo will start. dont have a gauranteed date by keep an eye out, i predict next week some time if not this week cause they are flying along.

Jp- The falling star has actually been up for sale for a while (years maybe 4 or 5). Although a great ride just a lil outdated for now, we tried selling it, but this season it had major issues thtat we tried to fix but couldnt so it was decided to KO it.

Thanks, Jswia.

I wonder how cost-effective it would be to just rebuild the JackRabbit over it's existing footers. You already have a station and power hookups, if you can salvage the mechanicals thats half the cost right there.

But then again, marketing an older attraction isn't as easy as you may think.

Hopefully I can make my first trip to Clementon here soon. We decided to skip it in 2003 due to the Rabbit being down.

Considering the Jack Rabbit's footers were rumored to be sinking into the ground is cited as the main reason why the ride never reopened, I doubt it would be cost-effective to build a new Jack Rabbit using any of the old foundation. It's too bad though, since the intensity of Tsunami leaves a gaping whole in the park for a more mild, family-oriented coaster like the Jack Rabbit. If the park wants to add character, they'd be wise to build a small wood coaster instead of a generic steel ride like a Roller Skater.

Actually, I'm thinking the Clementon folks would probably be well-served by going to Columbus next year and seeing how the Zoo is doing things!

John, Thats one of the major problems with Jack Rabbit. THERE ARE NO FOOTERS in several areas. It litterally sinks into the ground. Several old John Miller coasters were built that way including Screechin Eagle at Lesourdsville in its many rebuilds has had footers poured.

I had that feeling about the foundation, guys, but I thought I ask anyway.

^Yeah, that's pretty much what we came up with when debating the merits/demerits of them building J2. Building codes in the 1920s were pretty lax compared to what they are now...so once the original JR sat idle for a season, it was pretty much a goner... :(
I'm Local and there are no Mentions of this in the News or anywhere.
Clementon Park and the Media needs to give this 98 1/2 year old John Miller coaster some respect on its last days.
I'll be there checking out whats going on everyday until they take the "wreaking ball" to it.

Thanks to JSwiga and his updates we would have never known unless you drive by.
I think I was around 6 years old riding this

Jack Rabbit is gone
Pics to come in a few hours
Them's gonna be some pretty sad pics.
