Choice of Six Flags

LOL! Worst. Post. Ever.
Did he just say aint?? I second rOLLocOASt!
I visited SFOG for the first time in 2003, and I thought that the park was very nice. A beautiful place, without a doubt, and it has some very good coasters. You can't go wrong with Batman and Superman, and Mindbender really is as good as everyone says it is. For me, though, the biggest surprise was Scorcher- it was the first stand-up coaster that I actually enjoyed! The woodies, on the other hand, were both good, but not "blow-you-away" good. Maybe I was there when they were both having bad days...

SFGAdv, like SFOG, has Batman and Superman, but instead of Mindbender, you get good looping coasters with the Chiller rides (two rides, if you ask me). You also get Medusa and Nitro- two fantastic steel coasters that SFOG lacks. Then you have GASM, which is the equivalent of Ninja and Runaway Mine Train which matches us with the Dahlonega.

They're both nice parks- probably the cream of the SF crop (never been to SFGAm but I hear thats nice too)- so chosing between the two could be tough. For what its worth, I was glad that I got to SFOG, but I would have a hard time trading "my" coasters at SFGAdv for theirs. They're both good collections!

Just stick to the one closest to home(SFA)for now.

Sure it's no SFGRADV or SFOG but the park does have S:ROS which is a must ride at night & at least one of the two woodies(Roar) is really worth riding(WO has been re-profiled way too much but is still an ok ride.

Add to that a mix of flats(some like Iron eagle are now one of a kind)& a decent batch of water rides (PBR & TSC) & you've got a half decent park in which to have some fun.

In addition to that the park has one thing that SFGRADV or SFOG don't & that's the water park located within the gates & it doesn't require a seperate addmission fee.

The question is can the park improve? the answer is probably yes...with time & a bit more in the way of funding from corporate,SFA has the potential to become huge but only if corporate will take note of that potential & continue to make improvements & add new attractions in the coming years.

So, Batwingfan, you're telling me you're so happy with SFA that you never want to visit any other SF park? That's as much nonesense as claiming that Iron Eagle is one-of-a-kind.

Well Coasterdude it's not as easy as all that.

If I could do it I would go to SFGRADV at least once but since I'm unable to make the 4 hour drive then SFA's the only SF park close enough to visit.

Iron eagle is (to my knowledge) the only full sized roto-shake operating in the USA...KCS@MOA does have Mighty axa but it's a much smaller indoor version of the defunct Hammerhead at KBF/Iron eagle at SFA.

If you know of another US park that has a full size roto-shake than I'd like to know about it.

But he's not you. He said the only SF park he's been to is SFA, and he wants to try something else. So why would you tell him to stick with SFA? It clearly doesn't even compare to SFoG or SFGAdv in the first place.

Camp Snoopy's Mighty Axe is the exact same model as Iron Eagle and KBF's (now defunct) Hammerhead. All three are park models of the ride. There is no difference in size.

If you go to SFOG, drive another two hours to BHAM, AL to go to Visionland. The Rampage is a Fabulous CCI coaster. It was rated the number 4 in the nation in 2001. You can catch a ride on the Rampage on the top 10 coasters show on the travel channel.
Mindbender is a very fun ride, however, I would stop short of calling it "amazing." It's really re-rideable and it does pack a suprise or two.
Rampage really is a great coaster! In fact it ranks as my #3 wooden coaster. I recommend checking it out if you're that close in Atlanta.

I guess that's a matter of opinion. On coasters alone, I'd say SFA has the others beat.

I'll take SFA's S:ROS, Wild One, Batwing over GADV's Nitro, Medusa, S:UF (and even JJ over B&R:TC) any day. I think it also beats SFOG's Scorcher, S:UF and either woodie at the park as a third.

In terms of the park itself, I didn't think SFA was bad. Nicer than Jersey, but just below Georgia.

On flat rides, I don't think it's fair to compare since Jersey never opens theirs ;)

Don't worry Gonch. If rumors floating around hold true, hopefully some of those closed flat rides at SFGAdv will be put into operation at SFGAm. :)

My favorite MJ tune: "Billie Jean" which I have been listening to alot now. RIP MJ.

You'll have to let me know how they are :)

I've never seen many of them run, let alone ridden them!

Here's hoping that GAdv's JJF goes away to *someplace* where I can ride it....looks cool, I've SEEN it at least over a half-dozen times...no rides yet, LOL.

On top of being an SBNO flat, I can't think of another ride at ANY park that does as good a job blocking a MAIN artery for foot traffic...def. a worse location than even the Pendulum, which was *nigh impossible* to locate...;)

SFoG Rocks fa shizzel dizzel.

Birmingham/Bessemmer is close to Atlanta, but not THAT close. Its about 3 hours, and while I had no reservations about making the drive, that's just me.

Rampage was a fantastic ride, but Visionland itself leaves a lot to be desired. The only other ride that we rode was the Space Shot- otherwise we stayed on Rampage for the four hours that we were there. There are few rides and we found the employees to be downright lousy. They were slow to dispatch the trains (about 7 or 8 minute intervals) and it was first-come first-served seating- no choice of seats which sucks when you drive all that distance.

If you're going to the Atlanta area, I would also recommend Lake Winnie in Rossville. The Cannonball isn't as good a coaster as Rampage, but its not bad... and you do get a really cool traditional park along with it. They have a decent mouse, the Fly-O-Planes and some of the best employees around. It was quite a surprise, where Visionland (as a whole) was quite a disappointment.

They are both good parks, with good rides. The crowd at SFoG is MUCH better than SFGAv. The people are much nicer (and you don't get the impression that you will be shot if you say the wrong thing to someone). However, the overall ride line up is far superior at NJ. Nitro rocks, the Vekoma fun house is a great experience, Medusa, SUF, and that wonderful TOGO DEATH COASTER (you just have to ride it to see how bad a coaster can really be).

Now dont get me wrong, I think SFoG is a great park with great rides, they just are two completely different atmospheres and experiences.

It barely takes me 2.5hrs with a pit stop to get to Visionland from my house in Roswell, GA...from SFoG it'd take just over two hours. 70mph speed limits are nice!

OMG I have a new sig!!!
You can choose your seat on Rampage. Each train bench has an individual queue. The employees at Visionland were not lousy on the day I visited. Yes, there are few rides. I did however ride the Giant Wheel, Breakdance, Space Shot, Wave Swinger, and Marvel Mania kiddie coaster. There is also a pirate swing ship, flume ride which is getting revamped this year with a dinosaur theme, bumper cars, carousel, rapids ride, round up, a water park inside the gate, and a beautifully lit musik express. It definitely isn't a huge park but is beautiful and has a lot of land to grow. Rampage rocks!
