Cell phone - in lines and on coasters? C'mon!!

I play games on my cell phone to pass the time away while waiting in long lines for coasters. Sometimes I talk on it too. I don't talk loud or swear or talk x-rated on it. I always put it in a zippered waist pack long before my turn to ride comes up.

I would rather see someone have a clean conversation on a phone will in line than to be fighting, swearing, peeing, smoking, making out, spitting, line jumping, or even screaming in my ear to talk to the people that are waiting for the outside the fence!

If the cell phone in any way compromises safety, it shouldn't be there. I don't see how cell phone conversations are so different from any other type of conversations in line. Either cell phone conversations or person-to-person conversations can be loud and disruptive and rude. Doesn't matter where it is.
I have problems with:

-Smoking in line.

That's about it. Talking on cell phones in line is no worse than them talking on a cell phone in a mall.

I was unlucky enough to get placed next to this strange woman on Delerium. She pulled out her cell phone right as the platform lowered. She flipped it open and said, "Yes?" in a horrible screechy voice. The ride picked up speed and went higher and higher. She seemed oblivious to it all. Near the top of the swing she began screaming into her phone, something about stocks. She slammed it shut, realized where she was, and dropped her phone. It collided with the seat-back, and flew into the air. I didn't see it until the bottom of the swing. It came down right upon me own head. I was knocked out. Next I knew, the restraint opened. The lady stormed away, fuming about the loss of her cell-phone.

Strange things happen to me.

Hey! That's MY hamburger!

This morning, the ride op on CCMR just broke out laughing during the usual speil. Train comes in, 9 or 10 year old in the front row talking to his mom on the cell phone. Clueless dad sitting in the row behind him seeing nothing wrong with it.
Once he recovered, the ride op added "don't use your cell phone while on the ride" to his routine.

As for injuries from items flying from other passengers, I used to let my daughter wear her sp on a lanyard around her neck. Then I saw someone lose theirs on MF, and whack a guy about 1 1/2 inches above his eye, leaving a nice little gash. 1-2 inches lower, and he probably would have lost sight in that eye.

I was recently on the Dania Beach Huricane. There weren't many people riding so there were lots of rerides to be had. This one teenage girl in front was talking on her cell phone the entire time. She'd talk the entire ride, get off the coaster still talking, walk around back through the entrance and get back on, all while continuing to talk. At least three rides in a row like this. After that I left so didn't see how long she kept doing that but she probably kept talking until her battery died!

You'd think riding a coaster would be a little disruptive to a converstation. But it didn't seem to have an effect on her at all. Strange.

There's nothing wrong with carrying a cell phone around at a park, or using it. i use mine all the time in the long lines. wether its playing a game of tetris, or hold'em poker, or if im using the photo / video options to get alittle footage of the ride.

also now most cell phone providers offer the walkie talkie feature. (ie. sprint / verizon / nextel) which is great for communicating with friends in the park and is a hell of alot more reliable then the regular walkie talkie's where you'll pick up other peoples convo's if there using the same channel as you.

and for those of you that say its annoying to listen to a person's cell convo, how is it anymore annoying then over hearing some of the other conversations that are going on in the line? there really is no argument for that. be mad at the people smoking / pissing in line. not those using there cell phone as a way to pass time. *** Edited 5/25/2004 7:06:59 PM UTC by CalvinJ23***

You know what really pisses me off? Coaster geeks that constantly talk about coasters to each other in line waiting for coasters! Or worse yet, "correcting" a non-geek when they make an incorrect remark about a coaster. Can we ban them too?

Wow! It's true. Everyone has their own pet peeve. I guess I'll have to live with it.

Damn, another great idea. I have one picture of me reading the sports section on Tower of Terror. Talking on the phone would have been another good one.

I wish Bill would get a cell phone jammer. I'd love to send the FCC into line after him. :)

BAM!

And just like that, it's gone.

I like waffles, do you like waffles? Is it alright to eat waffles while talking on the cell phone and in line for a roller coaster?

-Brent Kneebush

Pancakes are better than waffles.

I like to let mine soak in a pool of syrup and butter for a while. Then eat em, nice and soggy.

Awww....I missed it.

I got a good pic of it with my cell phone. I will post it later.

Another blast from the past thread. :)

When I'm at a Park, the LAST thing I want is for someone to interrupt me while I'm enjoying myself. I have a Cell Phone, but while I'm in the park the Phone is in my Car's Glove Compartment. If anyone wants to call me, Let em eat Cake!

I find it impossible to enjoy myself unless my phone is with me at all times. Staying connected is one of the ways I have fun.

It's nice to be able to pull up a Google search if something in discussion is in question, or to take/upload pictures right then and there without having to worry about transferring them to the computer later, or to send pictures to friends/family in a "wish you were here" message.

I guess I'm just part of the tech generation.
