Cedar Po!nt Flats

Ok... say "IF" Cedar Point happened to get any new flat rides...

Who is a good reputable manufacture?

Huss? The have excellent Giant Rides, but their other stuff isn't all that new with the exception of the Fly Away, of which to this date, only has 1 in existance at a park.
Chance? Ha ha... you'll find a better deal in the back dumpster of a McDonalds restaurant!
Zamperla? Although they seem to cough out a lot of kiddie rides, they also make great rides... but how reliable?
Mondail? They make excellent rides. Take a look at PCW... but I think PCW didn't like them for some reason and moved to Huss.

HUSS- A Land of the Giants would definitely be up to caliber for Cedar Point, but with two of the models already at another Ohio park, would they do it? The one HUSS Flyaway is at Six Flags New England and it had a rough start in 2000-2001 but has been running consistently since 2002. If it had been the star attraction it would've been running better much sooner.

Chance- The only ride that I could think of CP getting would be a Double Inverter, which hurts your legs like hell.

Zamperla- There's the Meteor at Dorney Park but supposedly that thing has horrid downtime.

Mondial- Not too knowledgable about Mondial.

It would seem to me that the flat rides for the most part have always been great a The Point. there were many that I loved to ride and still do however if you but an inverter like a Ocean Motion that turns upside down you just het a head ache and in the long run not much more than Ocean Motion out of control. I would like to see something like the old Rotaor put back in There was nothing like being held to the wall with nothing but Centrifugal Force when the floor drops out from underneath you.
Then there would be too much to do and we would have to spend more and more money to return.... oh wait, that's what they want....

I still say that maybe both a "Lost Cedar Po!nt" or "Cedar Classics" section where old rides of CP from the early 20th would be a great addition to a corner of the park, just as much as a set of newer modern twirl & hurl rides. You could do a little "ride hopping" jumping from flat to flat riding until you puke.

As much as I like the newer ones... I think they could make a few nice sections by incorporating a bunch of classic flats into the back of the park where the frontier town area is... and incorporate newer ones towards the front (unless to direct traffic towards the back is to do the opposite!!)

The Shocker by Zamperla looks really cool, havent been on one yet, but it looks like it packs a punch.

Land wise they have plenty of space to put in a flat, where no coasters would go. The Pirate Ride/Arcade/Storage building would be great for a Tomb Raider type ride. That whole Raptor Plaza has a lot of room for development. And lines have been short on Raptor and Blue Streak.

Maybe they should put on a Chance Wipeout...and have it running like they do at SFWoA, that would be insane...

I think a HUSS Frisbee that faces inside would be interesting, or even an inverter..

Place them around Blue Streak...no Frontierland..they have lots of space to put things there..but who knows?

Not to stray too far from the topic, but I've read/heard that a lot. I live a few miles from Dorney. We were there 19 times last season and 7 so far this year. I think Meteor was down once (maybe twice) in those 19 visits last year and it's been up and running every time this season. And even those times is was down were early in the season last year. I'm not sure how that story got passed around. Maybe we just hit on the right days, but I'd say it runs just fine. The main problem I see in it is that it seems to intimidate the Dorney crowd. There's usually more slack jawed locals watching from the midway than actually in line. Then again, the Dorney crowd is weird. Steel Force will be a 20 minute wait, while Talon remains a walk-on. I can't figure Allentown out.

Back to your regularly scheduled topic...

Dorney Park Visits in 2003: 7

Has anyone been to the park lately and rode the train from frontier town back to the midway? On the way back on the left side by mantis and skelton village (the house that has been on fire from god knows how many years), there is a fenced area that has some of the old, old, old flat cedar point rides that are just sitting there rotting away. Why don't they restore them and use em. if you have something sitting for who knows how long why keep it...its taking up storage space for them, but they could put it to use and give us some space to play for the day!
Some are from Dorney park.

For the Record.....

The last Adult Flat ride put in was the Tilt-A-Whirl in 1999 with Camp Snoopy. The last flat put in before that was Chaos (1997). Cedar Point has also removed two flat rides in the last 2 years, and that would be one of their Dodgems (which was partially relocated to MiA) and the Mack Schwabinchen

Now, Cedar Fair hasen't shyed from purchasing flat rides all together... Remember, Dorney has put in a Top Spin and Zamperla Hawk (Meteor), Knotts has purchased a Wipeout and Reveloution, WoF has gotten a Top Spin and ValleyFair has gotten a Choas.

I love flat rides and would love Cedar Point to build some, however, CP needs to find a way to market these, and when your a park famous for build major coasters nearly every year, its sort of hard to. I would love a new set of Giant HUSS rides, they would look great in the already low traffic area near Mean Streak. If Cedar Fair are covinced that they can market a new set of 3 or 4 flat rides with perhaps a newly themed area to go with it, and are able to get people into their park to ride these, then I don't see why they would not purchase any.

The other things about adding flat rides and Marketing flat rides, a general Flat will hold possibly 30-60 people per cycle, so giving those numbers, and load times, you are probally not going to get anymore than 850-900 riders per hour, and we all know how tight CP is on getting higher capacity, so in general, the best way to run as many people through each hour on a new attraction like this is to build a few different types.

If they could get a Giant Huss Top Spin (77ppc), a Giant Frisbee (50ppc), Giant Jump (48ppc) and perhaps a Breakdance or a Zamperla Hawk or Chance Wipeout, then certainly they can get pretty good capacity with a bunch of them, and market them as a whole.

Cedar Point could remove half their flats and still have more than we've got at Carowinds. Anyway I like how they and Kennywood move their flats around instead of removing them(Chaos,Troika) I know the removed Schwabinchin but thats 1 to Carowinds 5 in the last few years

The Zamperla is also at Kennywood and has the same effect as the one at Dorney (from what LG says). The ride is awesome IMHO, I could ride it all day, but I've rarely seen a long line or downtime with it - just a lot of people watching, too scared to ride it.

And as far as CP goes, I think they could install a HUSS giant flat and it would go over well, say back between Mean Streak and the Log Flume, but its not the kind of thing they're going to do a marketing campaign for. It'd be more of a star on the map to draw your attention, but not something they're going to tell Chicago about. Especially the year after you premier a 420ft, 120mph. The next big advertising blitz and therefore draw of new crowds will be the next big coaster, no matter how important you might think flats are.

Very interesting discussion on CP's Flat Rides. Brings a smile to my face when PCW's flats are mentioned in this thread.

Last four years Wonderland has added four "Giant" type flat rides. First we had the Mondial Triple Threat followed up this year by the first Giant Huss Jump2. SledgeHammer so far this year has been a capacity monster quickly eating up it queue on its fast cycles. Psyclone and Cliffhanger are no slouches either in the capacity area just a little slow in the cycle. Shockwave, while probably the most intense of all the rides has the lowest capacity.

I just don't think the CP faithful would warm up to flat rides like the PCW faithful do. This could also do with CP being a destination park while PCW is a season pass park - emphasis on families rather than "Tallest and Fastest". It will be pretty hard to follow up MF and TTD with "New for 2004 @ CP a Giant Huss ..." While on the other hand there isn't much we don't have in the flat ride department at Wonderland so maybe that big B&M is due. We can only hope!

For a peak at PCW's Awesome Foursome check out my newest video "Get Loose" which has a direct link at the bottom of www.pcwjunkies.com home page.

Not sure, but doesn't CP already have a Chance Breakdance or something similar. I saw a ride in the "Perfect Day" video from Virtual Midway that showed a ride that looked like it was themed to a roulette wheel with the lady on top.

I guess my memories are all kind of old but it seems to me that when I was younger my brothers and I spent all day going from one flat ride to another and very little time on the Coasters (we weren't much over 10 at the time). Now I am pretty sure that it has changed a great deal but I seriously doubt that there are many parks out there with as many flat rides as The Point. There was a time when they would do something different each year for about 6 years or so it seemed like they were doing a Coaster one year and a Flat the Next. It was kinda cool because part of the fun was trying to figure out what kind of insanity was coming the next year.
S&S also has a few cool flat rides to offer. I wouldnt mind swatting at the sky at Cedar Point in one of the next few years.
