Cedar Point's Woodies are Good!

Here is a different view of the wood coasters at Cedar Point. Blue Streak is still my favorite coaster. I still get airtime from it, despite the modifications and the ride is stillvery fast and fun. Plus, Blue Streak brought Cedar Point into the modern era of theme parks.

Mean Streak is a good ride depending on how it is taken care of. There have been years when it isn't fun to ride and then there have been years(like the last few), when Mean Streak has been a joy to ride. Sure, Mean Streak is a little rough in places, but it is fun and if you can't handle the roughness of the ride, learn how to ride it. It isn't hard to brace yourself for the rough spots.

My thought are...

Blue Streak: the seat belt buckle slid under the lapbar (please, one restrain or the other!) and I got the airtime. Ouch.

Mean Streak: The view into the lake cannot be beat. Not even by MF or Magnum since there is nothing in between the ride and the lake but a beach and road. The second hill was great and it's overbankedness is very fun. After that, I got lost with the layout.

I'll spew my .02 cents:  Blue Streak is excellent IMHO and resides in my Top 20, but then my Top 20 has more classic wood than modern.  Mean Streak is less my cup of tea [speedy over airtime] but I've enjoyed the rides I've had.

My motto:  I'd rather be riding a mediocre coaster than no coaster at all.

I love the layouts for both. Gotta love a classis out-n-back and a new twister. BUT Means Streak is WAY to heavily braked. Other wise I think it could be in the Top 10 wooden coasters. Maybe the Top 10 overall.

the blue streak is a very good ride, about as good as the yankee cannonball at canobie lake. the mean streak on the other hand is a true DOG. the biggest waste of wood since the grizzly at paramount's great america in san jose. it does absolutely nothing and it is extremely rough.
Blue Streak is must ride,Mean streak I save till the last ride of the day because it tears up my back.

I have never had a problem with Mean Streak being rough. I too, love the view of Lake Erie from the Mean Streak.

I've wanted to ride the Blue Streak since I was a kid. I finally got to this summer past. Not only was it terriffic, but goes down as the only blue woodie I've ever been on.

Mean Streak? Looks neat. Got one of the first rides of the day so it wasn't warmed up. Didn't get a chance to ride later on. Didn't do much for me. Then again, I've been on quite a few woodies that have come through later on in the day. By the same token however, I've been on woods that are superb before they are warm, and fanstupendoustasticalliente stupid stupid stupid potatoe fresh with a cherry on top when the freaks come out. ;)

I thought BS was fun but MS was a piece of crap. Too many brakes. Also, Gemini is awesome.
MS is a sure way to make sure that your girlfriend/wife hates you. I've never cared much for blue streak...it gets skipped on most of my visits for more laps on Raptor/Magnum/MF.

Gemini is awesome, but it isn't a woodie :)

Doesn't it seem as though morons always have the caps lock on?

mean streak is still in my top ten woodies. Sure its not in the class of lightning racer or roar but its still a good ride.

Blue Streak was running really well last year. However, 2001 was the first year since it opened that I did not ride Mean Streak.

B&M ROCKS - this is not a flame, I'm just curious:  how many woodies have you ridden?
I enjoy blue streak to me its still a classic coaster.

Meanstreak  its really kind of a boring ride

   IMO

You really need to get some more BRAN in your diet

I tried MS in late June to find it better than usual (probably 'cuz I'm usually there later in the year), perhaps even a twitch faster than I usually expect.  While the final sequence had gone from an atrocious bore to not-so-bad, it was still a bore overall...and a very slight headache to boot.

The next day I boarded my first CCI (ST) and that changed my perspective considerably.  From that day on, I found MS inexcusable and BS merely okay.

I remember Blue Streak's beautiful curved loading station (you can still see marks from the queue) and the old bars that let you float on each drop. It was my fav. Ohio woodie for years.....then I discovered something unremarkable in Middletown!

MS was great that first season, but I have always felt let down after that great S-curve and drop through the lift. It just does nothing on that last lap, and more drops all the way to the ground would keep me awake!

Don't.....look.....back! The Headless Horseman awaits you in 2002!
Model coasters and rides

It's not that Mean Streak is rough, it is just a terrible ride killed by brakes, and is probably the slowest coaster i have ever ridden that is over 70ft.

Blue Streak is somewhat short, but still offers great airtime. Very enjoyable ride.

I would say 2001 Mean Streak was running it best(since the addition of the brakes). Mid-August, it rolled backed, and it seemed that from then on the brakes hardly came on. Over Labor Day Weekend, I took a night ride. No brakes, nice airtime, and a hot day, made one great fast-paced ride. If you didn't ride Mean Streak in 2001, especially later in the year, give it another chance. Call me crazy, but I prefer Mean Streak over Shivering Timbers any day.

The extensive track work done last winter made Blue Streak a truly great ride. I have never rode it before the "update", but if the ride was better back then, it must have been super, since it is a wonderful ride right now. Blue Streak features wonderful floater airtime over it numerous hills. Though not as big or fast as it bigger brother, I say Blue Streak is perhaps in my top five "Cedar Point" list. A must ride!

Interesting thing about Mean Streak... I recently had a chat with an actual wood coaster engineer. It was his opinion that the only thing that could really fix the ride is a massive reprofile, because its problems lie in its structure. I don't remember the precise reasons he said that, but it made sense at the time that they break it the way they do.

my take on the woodies...

Blue Streak- awesome ride, LOTS of air, good first drop (even though its sort of "small")

Mean Streak- fun, but exremely vibratic (is that even a word, lol).  the first drop really crawled and had no feeling to it whatsoever, and the wood sounds like its gonna snap near the middle.

Gemini- omg, i LOVE this coaster, it has to be my 2nd favorite coaster @ CP, lots of air, and the drops are all awesome.  only thing i dont like, is blue is sort of rough in the helix.
