Cedar Point's Top Thrill Dragster introduced to media

Posted | Contributed by Gemini

Although the day started out with a lightning show from Mother Nature, skies quickly brightened as Cedar Point unleashed Top Thrill Dragster. Virtual Midway has complete coverage of the day's activities with photos, video, and more.

In addition to the excellent coverage from Virtual Midway, check out the story from USA Today and a story and review from The Plain Dealer.

Umm, *three* restraint systems? I know of the seatbelt and the lapbar, but what is the third? Common sense?

isn't there something to do with the head/neck in restraints?

Jeff sttd that "if the ride was any longer it would be to much". Is the ride that damn intense?!

I can't wait until June when i get to CP it seems ages now.

Your Park only has 1 good coaster! That's too bad!

No, I stated it would be too much.

Yes, I think that if the forces were sustained any longer, the majority of people would find them uncomfortable (unless you fly military jets, anyway). I don't think it's uncomfortable, but I remember on my first ride wondering when the acceleration would end. Even on my third ride, I felt like suddenly I could breathe again just before it started to pull vertical.

Are you able to reach out your hands up after the launch?

I am wondering if this was built at PKI, would people be complaining that it was too short. It just seems like every time PKI builds something new, they get criticized for it. I for one would love to ride TTD. I am a big Drag Racing fan, and would love to feel what it is like to be a drag racer. Oh yeah, and I also thought it was great to have the stands and call it Cedar Point Dragway. I also love the spoiler and tires on the train, CP did a great job on making you feel like you are at a drag race.

The the actual USA Today article (the one in the paper) had some great pictures as well as computer generated models and height comparisons, I'm thinking of framing the article. ;)

MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM, roller coasters (Homer Style)

Im looking forward to my trip less than 3 weeks. Those trains sure look nice!

PKIBombers - I too am a fan of drag racing, although i dont think dragster is anywhere near the intensity. What TTD reaches in 4 seconds, is what a real dragster(top fuel) reaches in about 1second.

But for comparison, can anyone who has ridden both TTD and Hypersonic give a comparison? Hypersonic's is already quite intense, and i would like to know if TTD's is much different.

I can't wait to get over to CP! That ride looks absolutely amazing. Like nothing I've seen before (I wonder why? ;)). I find it almost humerous that you can see the persons skin go back when they launch...

TDD is quite different than Hypersonic. The intensity of the launch "feels" about the same, but the sheer speed and height, and the twisting, make it a very different ride.

Thanks GregLeg, i only wanted to know the difference between the launches anyway...i know the rest of the ride is different.

I wonder if the force of launch could dislocate your sholders if you had your hands up in the air (as some employees of PKD claim will happen on Hypersonic XLC). but i'm glad me and my friend got these line passes at the ACE no coaster con so i can't wait to ride front row TTD no wait!

SFGAm Man - PKD is my homepark, and i have ridden hypersonic several times with my arms up during the launch. No it didnt dislocate my shoulder, but there were a little sore. I found out though the if you just put your arms straight out, they arent sore at all, but if they are straight up they will hurt. Why that is im not sure, but it probably has to do with the initial take-off.

As I've posted elsewhere, I've had no problems with hands up on these launches, including all 4 rides on Dragster.

Sorry if this has already been covered, but does Dragster have preferential seating, or is it assigned like Millennium Force was the first year?
