Cedar Point's Shoot The Rapids still not open

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

For the third straight weekend, Cedar Point's new Shoot the Rapids ride continues to fire blanks. The ride was supposed to debut May 15 on the park's season opening weekend. Technical problems postponed the debut to Memorial Day weekend. But late Friday afternoon, park officials concluded that the ride still wasn't ready to handle customers, and put off the debut of Shoot the Rapids indefinitely.

I know what you're saying, Gonch, but are you really going to say that having attractions closed doesn't lead to decreased customer satisfaction? I may be over-simplifying/generalizing out of laziness, but I think you know what I mean.

EDIT: While I may not have the perfect answer/description for the "middle ground" here, I do know that purposely closing attractions has no positive effect and only negatively effects the customer's experience.

Just so you know, it never really goes away. We can see what you wrote. So like Gonch said... wow. :)

I'm just observing that it is interesting that nothing happening is considered newsworthy.

Well gosh, Dave, if it weren't for news like this, what would we talk about?

In other news Generalisimo Francisco Franco is still dead.

Edit: Darnit, I didn't even see that snuck in in Dave's post. Oh well.

@Jeff, yes I realize that. So much I could say but I need to be quiet at this point.

Wasn't Voyage supposed to have Timberliners for opening this year and last I checked HW opened way before CP correct? Just playing Devil's Advocate here but "Stuff" happens, it's just that HW has "Charm" and CP is a "Concrete Wasteland." What's the diff?

The difference, to me, is that at least the Voyage is operating and people can ride it. It really isn't affecting the GP, many of which may not even realize the new trains are coming. I'm still going to get to ride Voyage this weekend. Had I spent a ton of cash to fly out to HWN and the ride was going to be down completely? I'd be ticked.

And again, I had the chance to go to Knoebels Grove last year and didn't for a few reasons. I really do want to go, and I'm planning on PPP, with or with out the turns. But I kept putting off going because of the turns, and now I'm just prepared for it to sit there, and to just enjoy the rest of the park.

I went to PPP in 2009, and plan on going again this year, for the first time since FT was announced. To tell you the truth, I barely even noticed it.

Luna Park opened 100 days from the start of construction. I find that amazing. When they announced the opening date, I would have bet good money agaist them meeting it.

Anyway, I think this is normal and I'll be surpised if Harry Potter's flagship ride opens fully on time. I'm sure they'll run it for the media event, but it sure sounds like they are having problems with evac when it goes down!

Based on how Potter was running today and yesterday, I'd say they have a pretty good chance at a solid opening day operation. I'll see how things go tomorrow morning as well.

But comparing a completely new ride system with new and complex effects to a ride that already has one other version out there, and is really just a different boat in an old ride style/design is not the right way to go about it here. One had a certainty of delay because of the ridiculous complex nature of the attraction, the other is just a modified flume ride.

So... a "flume" didn't open on time... whoopeee! People never cease to amaze me over what silly mundane things get them all heated.

As for Flying Turns... yeah, they were around in the 1920's... but federal and state regualtions, as well as "mega-lawyers" were not. Unfortuneately its not so easy to build your own coaster these days, and I think Knoebels has learned that. But if anyone chooses not to go because of one ride... then really did you want to go in the first place? I don't ever got to a park for one ride, b/c odds are if I do, that ride will be down the day I am there.

Didn't CP used to open the water rides later than the park's opening day? For some reason, I seem to remember SRF and Thunder Canyon staying closed until Memorial Day (I realize we've passed that point, but that's irrelevant in this statement), while the weather was still cool.

Again, I realize it has been unseasonably warm this year, but am I wrong?

...then really did you want to go in the first place?

To be quite honest, until recently, I never really had an itch to go, so no.

I e-mailed the Red Cross today. They said they just found out late morning today that the Auction Ride will not be able to be scheduled this Saturday.

So, that probably means it won't be running this weekend. I'm curious to see what they tell us (if anything) at CoasterMania! this weekend.

I'm pretty sure that Knoebels never said that FT would ever open at a certain time. I remember them saying that it'll open when it opens, or something along those lines. Therefore, I am not in any way dissatisfied that FT isn't open yet.

When it does open, you can bet I'll be there to ride it.

Did a couple flyby's of StR tonight on Millennium, the seats for the boats,
(the top half of the shell) are sitting on the ground, the bases of the boats (bottom half) were nowhere in sight.

StR will not be operating for CoasterMania.

In other news Single Rider Bob was in the house tonight, getting some cheers, and doing a mad dash from Millennium exit to entrance, it was quite comical, everyone was getting him to ride with them.

Just what an attention whore needs is more attention. If that moron ever pushes me or someone in my family, I'll push him back.

I usually go for a trip instead of a push back, but to each his own...

Hi

Speaking of Single Rider Bob, he nearly ran my friend off of Rt. 2 last week on his way to the park. I guess he starts pushing people out of his way before he even gets to CP.

Does being old at least get you a senior discount on that pass?
