Cedar Point's 2007 Operating Schedule Released

Staying open an extra hour for the sake of the after work crowd is probably not all that lucrative. Anyone up for a 2-3 hour park hit is likely a season passholder. Whether the park closes at 7pm or 8pm, that person is going just for the rides and isn't going to take time out of that to have dinner at the park or hit any of the shops.

I'm sure that CF looked at that 7pm to 8pm hour and checked attendance and spending patterns during that hour and figured that it was in its best financial interest.

It's sad for those of us who relish weekday offseason trips but it's ultimately understandable.

Oh well. I could really care less when they open. It works out perfect for me...

Spring Con in NorCal....May 4-6

CP opening weekend.....May 12-13

Holiwood Nights......May 18-19.

Life is good. :)

Plus I am getting my MaxPass at either PKD or Carowinds around Spring Fling (SFOG) time in late March. (A STEAL at $89 right now!)

I have absolutely NO complaints about anything. :) I love having so many *homeparks* to choose from! :P

I'm pretty disappointed in the shortened season more so than the shortened day. Opening day one week later, what about in 08?

I really don't understand why they even bother being open on weekdays before the schools let out. Our school goes on a Saturday and judging by the number of buses I've seen up there so do a lot of others. I always thought that they would be a lot further ahead if they opened for weekends only, not in May, but in April, perhaps the same weekend as Easter break. Many families are looking for things to do then and we'd surely stay at the resort for a weekend in April. The weather can be a little chilly, but no worse than October. Week day operations could begin when most of the schools let out, end of May early June. If they came up with some kind of Spring event similar to Halloweekends, I really think we'd see crowds as big as in October. Besides, it's much more fun to be there when in isn't 90 F and humid.

Just my opinion, I don't have the figures to back this.

I don't think its a significant change. Some other parks have drastically cut hours over the last several years.

In comparison, Cedar Point's operating schedule remains very "generous" - still a lot of night operation during the summer, and then the weekdays in May and late August.

They're still open 139 days (if I'm counting right). Is that any less than this year?

Many parks seem to be shortening the season while raising prices and CP is opening one week later and this dissappoints me. GL and PKI for instance. PKI used to open 1st week of April now rumor has it that they bumped it to April 21 for 07. My point was that I would rather pay more to keep the season as is or even extend it into April weekends and eliminate the dead week days in May. The off season is way too long as it is. I guess I'd better accept this and plan a coaster fix trip to a year round park during the off season. Oh, by the way, if I counted right, CP was open 146 days in 06. :)

I think the reason rests on the park's reliance of foreign exchange students, especially early in the season. It wouldn't be feasible to Cedar Point or to the employees being flown in if they were to be working just 2 1/2 days a week and still had dorm housing/food, etc. costs to cover.
