Cedar Point topped off its new B&M wing roller coaster, Gatekeeper, last week. PointBuzz has continuing coverage of the construction.

Any pics of this from Sandusky? I love those CP skyline pics, would love to see how GateKeeper affects them...

Edit: NVM, just found one. Looks impressively tall compared to it's surroundings!: https://sphotos-b.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-prn1/20229_10151128457053639...1853_n.jpg

There's also a good picture from Pointbuzz's Facebook page showing Gatekeeper from across the bay at night.

I already love Cedar Point's skyline. Gatekeeper is only going to add to it's amazement. I know which park I am going to visit next year. :D

I can't wait to see this coaster when finished. It's going to look impressive covering the entire front entrance.

Why do they light the stuff up in December?

I vaguely recall it is done during the holiday season (Thanksgiving -> Christmas or New Years) for the residents of Sandusky. Sort of an uber light display.

This is why the lights were on. Just a one weekend thing for the flight that went overhead.

Wow. That's such an incredible thing to do for those families. Hats off to all involved.

The trick was to surrender to the flow.

Do not skip over that video and story. Amazing!

They usually have the lights on at night between Christmas and New Years.

This may explain the flying Scooter addition addition to MA. Give the other parks the peanuts, so that the masses will flock back to Cedar Point for the gold. It's too bad that Cedar Fair eliminated the Cedar Point/MA season pass. This would give me a reason to go back to both parks. Gatekeeper looks like it will be an awesome ride! (Hint MA...get with it!)

But, I think Cedar Point will be on my visit list in 2013, and Great America. I might have to hold off the Holiday World visit another year.

I didn't do it! I swear!!

What? Michigan's Adventure? Am I reading the right thread?

This may explain the lack of major addition to KI. Give the other parks the peanuts so that the masses will flock back to Cedar Point for the gold! Because certainly the best way to be a profitable business is to drive business away from some of your own parks and towards another one of your own parks because of favoritism or something like that.

But don't worry, KI is almost certainly going to "get with it!" for 2014 (what with all that former SOB land available), so that year it can be "give the other parks peanuts so that the masses will flock back to Kings Island for the gold!" year, and MA will still be left in the dust! Maybe 2015 will be the year they finally get their next big attraction/hotel.

I would argue that the intentions of Cedar Fair is not to drive attendance away from KI or even MA, and to CP, because that would be a terrible idea. It's normal for any park to have a year with no new big attraction every once in a while. The company is not thinking that they will drive attendance away from one park so that people will visit another park. That's just crazy thinking. Who's to say that people will even visit any park at all if the park that they normally visit isn't getting anything new?

What I am saying here is that I think that based on the location of where they live, some people would just choose to not visit a park at all before choosing to drive further to an unfamiliar park with a new ride.

I don't think that Cedar Fair looks at Kings Island, Michigan's Adventure, and Cedar Point as one big park having three different locations, and people will visit the park with the new ride and leave the others behind. KI an MA will do just as well as they always do.

Just a comment about the minds of business people. I worked for the Meijer company for 15 years. And it's stores were always making attempts to take money away from stores in the same chain. I worked for the flagship store, (compared to Cedar Point as the giant of all the stores) and, they were always trying to find ways to get people from store 11 to come to store 50. You have to remember that all of the money goes to the same place. In the case of Cedar fair, no matter what park has the best attractions, the money is all going to go to the same place. So, I would not be surprised at all if they let one or two parks slide off the radar, in favor of just one that is going to drag in the monster crowds. Which is why I think each park should be able to spend the money it earns, and not drop it all into one bucket. Look at Cedar Point. Do you really believe that they needed another new attraction over all the other parks? So, yes, they are certainly picking and chosing who gets what.I think if each park was able to manage the dollars it took in. We would see better attractions at all of them. And not just the pets.
Another comment about Meijer. Store 11 was what was known to most people as the Ghetto store. There was even talk of closing that store all together. Instead they bulldozed the old store, and built a brand new one, and they did that for one reason only. To keep the ghetto in the ghetto.

You should hang out with the Geauga Lake Today freakshows. They still think they bought the park to close it, because it was a threat to Cedar Point. Your arguments are just about as logical.

While I will agree that each park should be able to budget the money that it earns on new attractions, I am getting annoyed with the same ol' argument. You sound like me and Flashpass. You need to learn that not everyone is going to agree with you and move on to more interesting topics. Maybe just mention it a little bit now and again in passing, when it is appropriate, and not linger on the issue. It's worked for me, for the most part.

Take it from me. I know what it is like to have a very strong opinion about something on CoasterBuzz that isn't getting the attention I think it deserves. Once you figure out that no one cares anymore after your first few rants about it, you will find CoasterBuzz Zen. lol

And with that, I am not going to reply to the MA rants anymore.
