Cedar Point announced today that they'll remove Schwabinchen for the 2003 season. Sunday will be its last day of operation at the park.
Read the official press release.

We must protest! The Schwabinchen must stay! Where else, but at Cedar Point, can you see a twirling big-breasted family thrill ride?
Next to go is the Matterhorn.
Cedar is reminding me of a 1980's Kings Ent Park that pulled most of their flat rides out over a period of a few years. First we lose the Frontier carousel (now at Dorney Park) then the Gemini Midway Dodgem Pavillion and now this.
It's been since 97 when they actually built a new flat ride. I know, it's hard to market a flat ride package at a park like CP, and things have to be removed for change, but for the love of God why a ride like Schwabinchen? The thing is so tiny!
Heres the real kicker: Say for example, the new coaster opens up with a 54" height requirement, then that means thats less rides that a shorter visitor can experience. I don't mind them removing a flat ride like Schwabinchen, but they need to at least replace it with another.
That really, really sucks.
Da Midget kept asking her motion-sick mom to ride it while I waited for WT and of course she refused to let her.
I knew I should have been the parent waiting for Parent Swap! We could have done a half-dozen laps on DT to boot...

The CPlaya 100--6 days, 9 parks, 47 coasters, 2037 miles and a winner.....LoCoSuMo.
This is really disappointing news - I always liked this ride! It has been operating there for as long as I remember. However, this sure would be a *great* addition for Knoebels (hint-hint).
What other flat rides have disappeared from CP over the years? I know there was a Swiss Bobs (next to the previous location of the Schwabinchen) and Trabant next to the Scrambler. Also, I believe there was a second Calypso ride a long time ago in the location of the Matterhorn (which was previously along the beach near the Space Spiral).

Phoenix Phan,
The Satellite Jets were removed a few years ago. They used to be next to the Blue Streak, where the Calypso is now.
CP used to have all those cool dark rides: Earthquake and the Pirate Ride. I can't recall any additional flat rides they have gotten rid of over the years other than the ones mentioned.
Maybe CP will transplant Schwabinchen to Michigan Adventures - they certainly have the space for it.
I would suspect Chaos or Troika will end up here... not a new flat.
The ride had seen it's day. I expect low ridership coupled with maintenance issues is the cause.

This just proves that CP does whatever SFMM does. SFMM removed their Trabant a few years ago...now CP has to remove theirs. What is this, a race to see who can have the fewest Trabants?
Moosh - not serious, as usual

This is really too bad - and it was one of the more unique flat rides at Cedar Point, too. If it helps, her breasts were fading a bit (I seem to notice these things)....
My question is, what are they going to put there? This seemed to me like a good place for Schwabinchen because it covered a lot of the drab exterior of the arcade building. Or, are they going to simply leave the space vacant?
I think that this area of the park (which is the closest to the lake that Cedar Point guests can get without going onto the beach) will never reach its full potential until Disaster Transport is removed. It could be replaced by just about anything (even nothing) and look better.
About CP removal, as above Dodgem #2 went to MA, but CP kept the cars from the 30's that where at Dodgem #2, while MA, got the 60's cars from the Dodgem #1.Good Move.
Chaos and Troika, are being put in some how over there, thers a quite a bit of room sine WT was put in and the kiddie boats was moved to GCA.
I would go on about rides but just go here:http://www.thepointol.com/history.html
The only removal that really got me was the Frontier Carousel, I thought the great thing about CP was how they had 4 Careousel's. The area for the first couple of years was a picnic shelter, now its a haunted house thats only used for Halloweekends, real missuse of the space. And took alot of charm out my favourite looking part of the park.
