Cedar Point retains Golden Ticket Award for best park

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

During a ceremony today at Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, Amusement Today announced its annual Golden Ticket Awards with a few surprising new winners among traditional repeaters. The awards, based on surveys submitted by well-traveled park enthusiasts around the world, honor the top parks and rides as well as cleanest, friendliest and most efficient operations. Cedar Point retained its position as best park while Six Flags New England's Superman edged out Millennium Force for best steel coaster.

Read more from Amusement Today.

Medusa at SFGAd is on the list, maybe you can imagine Scream! being there, too.

Joe, who laughs how every year this poll comes out there are people saying the same things over and over.

You suck big time.

Both the wood and steel list are a bit shady, I bet its fixed, a few people at Amusement Today get together and just throw out some coasters names then they put a top ten then just throw the next 40 in there where ever, I bet that they really haven't even ridden many of these coasters in the first place. How else can they explain Mean Streak and Blue Streak at CP being in the top 50, those two are more like in the absolute bottom of the list with zero ratings, and not see Conneaut Lake's Blue Streak or even WOA's Big Dipper. Also Racer and Jack Rabbit at KW are on the list also, now nothing against these two but other than the continuos track of the racer and the double dip on JR they are both totally boring and tame rides. Then on the steel you have coasters lke Magnum and PR in the top ten, come on your telling me these people know what their talking about. Then at the bottom of the list you have S:UE at 47 and WT at 50, no offense even an idiot will tell you WT is 20 times better. Also how the heck can coasters flip flop from year to year, its not that they get that better or that worse in a years time. I honestly don't care what a coasters ranked if its fun its fun even if its not on this list. I think Amusement Todays poll/rankings are totally ridiculous, they should actually go out and ride more of the coasters for next years rankings!
Notice how CCI dominates the wooden list.
Snap, I believe there are votes. If someone didnt ride a ride last year, and they did this year, they may change their minds. Costers can get worse over time. Some are reprofiled and get better. Impulse coasters arent that great, In my opinion. Magnum gets it for nostalgia, i think, but it is a very good coaster. Better than Goliath, i thought. CP's Blue Streak shouldnt be near the bottom. Mean Streak, maybe. but not Blue Streak.

Besides that, I would like to say Im glad Texas Cyclone is in the top 25 wooden coasters. It is finally seen for what it's worth!

Not hard to believe that CP keeps the golden ticket. But CCI is rocking the house with woodies.

Hello people! Welcome to the world of coaster polling. Polls aren't *fixed* no matter where your favorite rides rank (and no matter how high Magnum is ;)). The fact of the matter is that popularity driven polls will be heavily weighted towards coasters with high ridership. I think it's pretty obvious based on the distance between many clones (Goliath/Titan just to name one).

Notice how EGF jumped quite rapidly inspite of being around for a number of years. Ace's ECO comes to mind as a reason why that might be.

If you want to see (and particpate in) a poll that eliminates that bias, check out Mitch Hawker's.

Anybody notice something funny on the Wooden Coaster list?

Screechin' Eagle, which isn't even operating this season, placed higher (at #40) than Mean Streak (#49). To add insult to injury Screechin' Eagle is 53 years older than the Mistake on the Lake.

Let's throw out some of the "more people rode it, so it rated on the list" crap with this example. How many people actually have ridden Screechin' Eagle? Now, how many people have actually ridden Mean Streak? Compare their spots on The List.

Just because your favorite ride didn't rate where you thought it should doesn't mean that the poll is fixed. Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean that everyone else in the world has the same one.

Well, even if everyone rides it, a coster that sucks still sucks. ;)

(I like Mean Streak, though. Really.)

screechin eagle is my favorite wooden rollercoaster in ohio.

it has the best airtime, a unique feel, and a VERY unique train. a group of us buzzers left pki for a few hours to go ride it together at the 2002 coasterbuzz con and we were all blown away i think. i was surprised honestly that it was not ranked higher.

screechin eagle is the best standup coaster in ohio. ;-)

Well at least my personal favourit Roller Coaster Rapotor has got back in the Top 10, Dragster its all about the down time.
I don't like how the GTA's are out of 50 (as opposed to 25), it seems like coasters that don't deserve to be considered in the league of the best coasters in the world are on the list. (Mean Streak?)

And that coasters like MS just made it on the list because people have actually ridden it, instead of a good ride in a remote part of the world.

I say sever the list off at 25, because it's getting a little too easy to be considered a world class coaster

Riddle me this:

(Okay, I know, wrong Superhero reference, but...)

Superman ROS at SFNE is number one while Superman ROS at Darien is number 9???

Aren't they indentical?

What's up? Was the sky bluer, were the lines shorter?

This is a serious question, as I have nothing invested in either (except that I rode the Darien version) (and loved it too!)

Wouldn't it be a tie? Or does it have to do with fewer visits to the number 9 ranker?

Please....take the time to respond...I am facinated.

Aside from being roughly the same height, they're not even remotely identical.

Jeff-

Thanks for the reply-

I guess the fact that they are listed as having the exact same height, exact same length in the stats threw me. (And the fact that Six Flags seems to replicate)

But that's great to know....I am glad I was wrong.....I have yet to ride the best.

I can't wait.

I'll go tomorrow

Thanks for the post!

I'm back...

Great coaster, that Superman:ROS Six Flags New England!

There IS a difference! (shows you how import
ant track layout is!)

It was even worth the 3 hour wait. But I won't bash SFNE for the day of waits. . .
(I'll do that somewhere more appropriate)

:)

Thanks! It was great!
