Posted | Contributed by Jeff

During a ceremony today at Schlitterbahn Waterpark Resort, Amusement Today announced its annual Golden Ticket Awards with a few surprising new winners among traditional repeaters. The awards, based on surveys submitted by well-traveled park enthusiasts around the world, honor the top parks and rides as well as cleanest, friendliest and most efficient operations. Cedar Point retained its position as best park while Six Flags New England's Superman edged out Millennium Force for best steel coaster.

Glad to finally see S:RoS where it belongs. ;) It's been on top of MF in Mitch's poll for a few years now (IIRC) which leads me to believe it just didn't have the ridership it needed to beat MF in AT's poll. I just wonder where EGF would be if it had more ridership.

Actually, it looks like Maggie had more points than EGF, but EGF took third. Anyone know what's up with that?

I'm also a little dubious about TTD's and X's spots. I've heard nothing but great things about their rides (when they're up) but I would imagine their downtime has a negative impact on their poll placements.

i must have had a bad two rides on appollos chariot, i didnt think it was better than nitro, phantoms revenge or even darien lake's superman.

Dragster’s placement is not surprising considering the downtime this year. Give it another year or two to hit the top 3.

Did anyone of you notice that Expedition Geforce got #3 spot yet it has 794 points while Magnum got fourth and it has 798 points. There is something weird about that.
Maybe to compensate for low ridership among the judges?

People love speed these days, eight of the top ten are hypers and above. Did Nemesis get the

low rider compensation
or is it really that good? Too bad it's across the big ol' lake :p

I'm still stumped as to how S:UE is higher than WT and Xcelerator is better than XLC anyday...

I wonder how Hershey's new Intamin will stand on next year's list considering the faring of the launched coasters...

X & TTD don't really surprise me at all. I have them in similar spots on my top 20.

I think TTD falls under the category of "novelty" ride. It was one of the coolest experiences I've ever had on a coaster, but not even close to the best coaster I've ever ridden. Does that make sense?

Same with X. Cool concept, and I really did enjoy the experience, but I wouldn't call it a great coaster.

I'd still rather ride S:ROS over either of those :)

You wouldn't consider a coaster in your top 20 to be a great coaster? How many coasters have you been on, and are they all that bad?

You suck big time.

It seems like stand-up coasters aren't the rage anymore ;)

Even the "best" (The Riddler's Revenge), so the poll shows, is at #41.

Out of curiousity, why does everybody seem surprised that Wicked Twister was ranked lower S:UE? I've never ridden an Impulse, but I'd much rather ride one with a holding brake than a glorified whirl and hurl, regardless of height.

Wow, these results are really surprising...

I lied.

Nope, not many surprises here. The one surprise to me is Wildwater Kingdom coming in at #3 waterpark. They added new slides this season, but nothing spectacular or really new.

Ask yourself; When was the last time YOU visited Conneaut Lake Park?

The biggest surprise for me is the lack of love for Talon.:(

Although WWK came in third in the waterparks, it was a very distant third.

Very surprised that spiderman finished second in best non coaster ride. You ask me its by far #1.

I hope they kill that iron yuppie. Thinks he's so big. The great homer simspon

I am surprised Magnum is number four. I love the ride, but I didn't think it would make the top five.

I guess it's choice of terms, Ryan. Great in the sense that I was using it means the upper echelon, the cream of the crop. Coasters I would give a "10". I've only met 3 or 4 of those in my life. A handful of "9's", but only a couple of "10's".

I don't keep some weird spreadsheet list, but I'd imagine you'd need to rate a "9" to make my top 10. I wouldn't call either of those coasters a "9".

BTW I have 162 coasters, so the top 20 represents the top 12.5%

Okay thanks for the explanation, even if I do find it a bit strange. :)

Btw, who is this Ryan character you speak of? lol
