Is it me or does it seem as if people have an unhealthy obsession with Cedar Point. I myself live in the Detroit Metropolitan area and have been going to CP for many years.I believe that it is a great park that offers many great rides and memories for me. This is not a critism, rather an observation .It feels a little strange if one makes a negetive or constructive suggestion about CP..It usually follows with snide comments as if you were personally attacking the reader.I find this behavior a little disrespectful to the author of the post/forum.What's even more bizarre is when negetive comments about competing parks never raise a brow.Especially, when CP may be used in the same sentence. It even seems encouraged. Besides, CP I've been fortunate to have visited many other parks which all have there plus and minus qualities. Some have better rides than others. While some may have better service or superior landscaping etc. It would be refreshing to have a little less biased for some parks rather than others.Especially for others who may live in others parts of the world that maybe haven't been to the "select" Park or Parks. It also would be helpful for people to be able to express there feelings good or bad about a park without a feeling of being personally attacked.
Thanks

Man, I totally agree. Another thing, people complain too much about parks. Have fun and enjoy it. Enjoy the new coaster you just got, don't complain about it! Be happy you get to go to parks, which I don't a lot. I am personally jealous of all of you with friggin 300+ coaster records. Mine is at like 9. Be happy you live 2 hours away from a park, not 12. Stop complaining and have fun. [stop rant]

In three words: CEDAR POINT RULES! If you have a problem with ANYTHING the park does, then you just need to return to your crack pipe!

I've never been to CP so I try to not have a hardened opinion about it, but I do have a bit of a bias. when I first became interested in coasters, I thought it was the greatest place, but now I think that its just another park that can be beaten out by other parks. still, I am planning on making a road trip this summer to visit the Point. they may be tied for the most coasters in the world and everyone everywhere may rave about it, but it seems like there are better coasters and parks out there. again, I haven't visited there so its quite possible that I don't know what I'm talking about.
just another example of how CP is kinda over-hyped: I'm going to school in Grand Rapids, MI. there's about a quarter mile streatch of sidewalk between the housing and the academic buildings and I must have seen ten promotions for CP employment written in chalk along the way. and that's not counting the posters on the walls and paper cut-outs on tables. for those of you who don't know, Grand Rapids isn't exactly close to CP. its actually right near Michigan's Adventure. so there's a couple hour drive from here to the Point.

CoasterDude316, I think that every other park/coaster is compared to the park/coasters of Cedar Point because CP has been voted the best park for like 4 years in a row by Amusement Today, They consistantly win best capacity and numerous other awards. Magnum, MF, and Raptor have been in the top 10 for a few years now. MF claimed the No. 1 spot in its first year of operation with is unprecidented. Comparing other parks to CP is comparing it to the best of the best. I know that there are a few weak spots in the park, but the portion that the GP sees is almost always good.

Honestly, I think it's just a midwest phenomenon. I mean, how else could you explain Browns fans? ;) I can say that, you know, I'm a Clevelander...
Seriously though, Clevelanders fought long and hard for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, OSU and Michigan fans are psycho, Indiana folks are nuts about their basketball... we just love our "stuff" in this part of the country. When you have a winner that you're familiar with, that has been a big part of your life since you were born, the obsession is that much stronger.
Over on GTTP, dozens of people have this long, intense relationship with the park. I speak the truth when I say that I can count no fewer than a dozen couples I know personally that are married today because of Cedar Point (only one pair enthusiasts, I'd add).
The rides have very little to do with it, actually. It's just one of those things you get or you don't.

Well, I am sure CP likes the good comments, but the reason CP is successful is not the opinions of enthusiasts or specials on the Travel Channel, it's the "nothing less tham impressive history" thats has made it today.
You will be hard pressed to live or visit and within 300-500 miles of the park and not find anyone who has not been there, or at least was unfamiliar with CP. Its the same story told far and wide; my grandparents went there, my parents went there, you had a mini vacation there, your college roomies worked there, and the stories go on and on. Not many parks in the US can even scratch the surface on what makes CP special.
And for what it is worth, the coasters are a big draw today, like the Breakers was 100 years ago, like the Ballroom was in the 30's, Frontiertown in the 70's, the Marina, the beach, and the list goes on and on. The management team that came on board throughout the 60's made changes to appeal to the entire family.
And even today, no one else is left out. They sink more capital than any other park in the world to infrastructure improvements. While certain themers keep pumping the ride arsenals up, CP spends millions on Marinas, hotels, bathrooms, catering, beach improvements, employee housing, etc. They spend for the future. When the marina was built in 1959-60, the industry thought it was foolish, yet how many other parks have one? Is it not full today?
They are the masters of in house production. They write their own shows, make the costumes, design the brochures, house the staff, make their own parts, write the commercials, and on and on. They bet their very jobs on their decisions. And they have carried that tradition on to other parks and made them stronger.
And plain as day, they have their act together. When I worked there in 90, they were doing the 50,000 plus days, with ease like today. They have tried to ease lines by adding more high capacity rides, and extending the season. How many other themers do you visit see rides shut down, and coaster trains on the transfer tracks while the lines are huge. They make every effort to get guests on as many rides as they can, let alone trying to seat people down to eat, keep overnight guests, entertain them, etc.
Its my opinion, my fellow managers opinion, my collegues opinion, and all through the industry that Cedar Point / Cedar Fair has their **** together. I will gladly debate any rebuttle from someone who disagrees, but stating that they are over hyped is non-sense. They tell people what they will do, and they do it. If the competition does it, they will do it better. They are in their own class of park, and PKI is behind, as Wof Adv.
And all these Six Flags building this and that have years and years to go before they even get up to the customer service level, minus the hotels, marina, and everything else. I have worked in this industry long enought to know that they are "The Amazement Park".
