My 2 cents is SFO will never have the same attendance as CP, however as a SF season pass holder ive got a lot more options in that area of the us (midwest please dont start the midwest mideast argument again) plus the option of traveling to most of the us where i can get into a sixflags park for free as a CP season pass holders you are stuck to the area and attend the park more often. My opinion is SFO season pass holders travel more and dont attend there home park as often as CP holders do.

How is PKI the most visited park this year in Ohio? According to who? Amusement Business got their recent story wrong... they said that Cedar Point's attendance was down, when they actually had their best year ever. I doubt very highly that PKI had their best year with bad weather and a ride that, for all practical purposes, opened late.

Jeff,
PKI wasn`t Ohio`s busiest park in 2000. If you look at my post I said the busiest park in `99 was PKI. In 2000 that honor went to Cedar Point. Both Cedar Point and Paramount`s Kings Island should have little fear of Six Flags Ohio taking away their business. SFO is simply not as well known for world class thrills. Cedar Point is known for their record breaking collection of historic steel coasters and PKI is known for its record breaking wood coasters. The only real thing SFO is known for is its 1926 John Miller coaster. However, both CP and PKI will benefit from SFO`s new ride because more people will be in the area and check out these more popular (and well attended) parks.

I for one am tired of everday reading of the Six Flags Ohio versus Cedar Point argument. People are trying to compare two very different parks. For those who've never been there, CP is easily two or more times the size of SFO. CP also has the history that SFO doesn't have. People, can we please have a healthy argument about some other parks for awhile? This is getting really old.

Actually, Jeff, I'd argue that there is quite a lot of overlap between the Cedar Point market and the Geauga Lake market. It's just that the way things are these days, while Geauga will be attracting more of Cedar Point's customers, the fact of the matter is that a certain percentage of those Sandusky-gone-Aurora customers...probably a large percentage of those customers...are not going to Geauga instead of Cedar Point...they are going in addition to Cedar Point.
Hey, this is the kind of news that should be good for both parks. If they were really smart, they'd come up with some four- or five-day package deals that include CP, SFGL, and Sea World...

Six Flags does own Wyandott Lake in Columbus. If they were trying to compete with PKI I think they would do something their.

If I'm not mistaking, SFKK is less than 2 hrs from PKI. Why wouldn't they try to add more there? I think that the news of X-Flight will benifit all three parks a lot though maybe not affect PKI as much since it is about 4-5 hours south from both of these. I'll be going to all three, but I won't get season passes for CP. I will for the other 2 though. Mainly because I live 15 min. from PKI and I'll be going to lots of SF parks. Hopefully the good ones on the east coast plus SFMM. Maybe SFKK too, but they only have like 5 adult coasters. Come on, share the love SF. I think that SFO has great *coaster* competition for CP. SFO has X-Flight,SUE,BKF and Villain with the 2000 3 getting rave reviews. CP has MF, Magnum, Mantis, and Raptor. So 4 to 4 world class coasters. Go SFO!!! Keep it up!
I like how Rideman Still calls it Geauga Lake. Why do they call it SFO and not SFGL anyway? There is SFDL and no SFNY.
I think that they were trying to lose some of the negative stigma that is attached to the name Geauga Lake. There was a general feeling that the park was not all that clean and the staff was crap. In the beginning of the season it appeared that they were keeping the park clean, but that illusion faded as the season progressed. They same staff problems arose. If they wouldn't run their staff into the ground I am sure that they wouldn't have their good employees quitting on them and leaving to rely on staff bussed in from the innercity of Cleveland. These people are frequently getting fired. Not all of them are getting fired but enough are that the park is always understaffed. If they would pay decent wages and not work the staff the hours that they do then the park could develop a courteous staff.
If SFO could get its act together and become a more well rounded resort, it could, in a number of years, be able to compete with CP. First, it would need to learn to cooperate with Sea World, and offer two park passes. They could each build a hotel or something, even have a path connecting the two. It is not worth the drive from Detroit to go to one small park, but two...that is different.

One thing that CP has a big edge over is employees and that is a mojor part of themeparks.

What is life without geniuses?
In my opinion SFO is just trying to make a name for itself now and will focus on being better in other areas as time allows it. Cedar Point shouldn't be worried because, like itself, any great park takes years of work to build a good reputation and become world class. The trouble for any park today is finding ways to be unique in a very large industry that is expanding rapidly. Older parks have the greater advantage because most of them were built in a time when the industry was much smaller. I think it will be interesting to see how newer parks like SFO make themselves great in this industry.

straight up SFO can not compete with CP there is no way!!!!
If you have ever gone to CP you know that a lot of people from Michigan go there.
If CP were to ever need to worry about competition from any six flags park, it wouldnt be SFO, (for right now atleast). But in the future maybe if SFO actually can catch CP. I think CP will always remain the victourious king of amusement parks.
One thing to remember is, competition is healthy for ALL parks. It helps even the best parks keep their edge. I think it's great that other parks are trying to rise to the level of CP.

Life consists of two kinds of people, those who accept, and those who sit back and cry...
i just wanna knoe whoever said six flags just adds to parks that have competition. what about six flags great america. the closes competion is like 5 hours and the is another six flags park. there are other parks but none are thrill ride parks. we seem to be getting 2 roller coasters this year and we already got 3 b&m's. ill enjoy the 11 coaster i got, (10 are true thrill rides if u count the whizzer) i wish we had some competition but i don't.

I don't think any park located in Chicago needs much competition.

It's good CP isn't worried about competition with SFO. But if they are angry with SFMM, then why don't they stop whining and build another coaster, HELLO...ANYBODY HOME?
Well right now its a little to late to start to build a coaster. They would have already had the pieces in the park. But not to say that it couldnt happen, i wish they would. But they probably already have a really nice and big ride planned for 2002. I just cant wait to see what it is. I dont think the rumors are true, but dont hold me to my word on that, it could very well be true that they are getting a floorless or woodie. But CP already knows what they are getting, and they have probably know for atleast 2 to 3 years. They were planning MF for 3 years before it was announced.
