From the press release:
Cedar Point, The Roller Coaster Capital of the World®, will once again redefine roller coaster innovation in 2024 with the debut of Top Thrill 2, the world’s tallest and fastest triple-launch strata roller coaster. The strata coaster, known as any roller coaster eclipsing a height of 400 feet, was first pioneered by Cedar Point in 2003. The park will build on that legacy with not one, but two, 420-foot-tall track towers, putting riders in the driver’s seat for one of the greatest races of all time.
A New Formula for Thrills
Riders will immerse themselves as they join the CP Racing Team and climb into one of three, sleek high-performance racing vehicles. Each of Top Thrill 2’s trains will feature open-air seating, providing heart-pounding views on the world’s first and only dual-tower vertical speedway.
On the start, using an all-new linear synchronous motor (LSM) launch system, riders will peel out down the straightaway reaching speeds of 74 mph, racing toward the sky on Top Thrill 2’s original 420-foot-tall “top hat” tower. After experiencing weightlessness during the “rollback” – the coveted fan-favorite moment when the train’s momentum isn’t great enough to make it up and over the tower – the train shifts into reverse and into its second launch, reaching speeds of 101 mph.
Riders will then see Cedar Point unlike ever before as they speed into a backward climb at a 90-degree angle on a new, 420-foot-tall track tower. After a second moment of weightlessness, the train shifts into drive and races forward into its third launch, clocking in at the ride’s top speed of 120 mph.
Crossing over the top hat tower, the train decelerates momentarily before diving into a 270-degree spiral and crossing the finish line.
“Top Thrill 2 will be the boldest and most advanced roller coaster Cedar Point has ever introduced. It’s another one-of-a-kind that could only be built at Cedar Point,” said Carrie Boldman, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “Our stamp on the industry is in roller coaster innovation, and today, that’s solidified as we redefine the strata coaster into a mega-thrill that our guests will come from far and wide to experience.”
Delivering High-Tech Racing Performance
Partnering with Cedar Point and utilizing the ride’s original and iconic top hat tower, Zamperla Rides and its Roller Coaster Business Unit engineered and designed a completely new experience. Top Thrill 2 is one of the first roller coasters in the world to utilize Zamperla’s “Lightning” trains, capable of high-speed aerodynamics, performance and rider comfort. The ride’s new high-tech LSM launch system delivers smooth and quiet acceleration while giving riders the chance to feel the rush of motorsport racing.
“My sincere congratulations to Cedar Point on the announcement of this incredible project. Today, with pride and excitement, we embark on this collaborative journey together,” added Antonio Zamperla, president and CEO of Zamperla. “It is an honor for Zamperla to add our signature on The Roller Coaster Capital of the World®. I cannot wait until next year when we see this record-breaking scream machine come to life.”

If ever anyone wants proof of my ability to enjoy a ride for what it is
A rattly headache inducing POS…
Considering that some of my other 5-star rides are The Boss, SFGADV’s late Great American Scream Machine, Mantis, and Hersheypark’s Wildcat in its original incarnation, your statement is more accurate than you think, haha.
13 Boomerang, 9 SLC, and 8 B-TR clones

and Hersheypark’s Wildcat
I knew I liked you!
Wildcat was such a great ride... Always near the top of my favorite wooden coasters. The RMC conversion is a downgrade (and unfortunate).
Can't agree on RRR, though... haha. I mean, it's FINE, but my pipedream one day is removal of the lift/drop, launch and conversion to Mack spinner trains... That would make that ride significantly better.
Universal, you listening!?

Just looking at Launch Coaster 2 makes me feel lethargic.
FIFY
Remember Volcano: The Blast Coaster? Of course you do, we all do. Best part of that ride, IMO was the second launch. You just took that high speed turn across the ground and enter right into a 2nd launch before the pullup. That's what I miss most about that ride. And launching from approx 100mph up to 120 mph, while not that much of an actual acceleration, is going to be amazing, especially after freefalling 400 feet!
I mean I just scared my wife accelerating from 35 to 45, just imagine going from 70 to 120 will be like.
Probably not, but I think the overall experience of TT2 will be better than the overall experience of TTD. As I've already said, I found TTD to be a bit of sensory overload. So much happens so fast, that when it's over, you're not really able to process it all. TT2 adds more ride and a more linear experience that builds in intensity with each launch.
I imagine the 100-120 experience to be similar to downshifting in a V-12 supercar. Or (hang on, I just threw up in my mouth a little,) an electric car.
Double post because one is an opinion piece and this is a legitimate question for discussion.
My biggest question is this: Will the initial launch to 74 take place rapidly over a shorter, beginning portion of the track, providing acceleration similar to rides such as Mr Freeze, Outer Limits, Impulses, etc? Or will the 74 mph launch take the entire loooooong length of the straight track, leading to a more "lethargic" 1st launch?
I think the initial launch, with a start position partway down the track, will be shorter. The reverse and the final forward launch will be the entire length from the base of the spike. The magnets will skip a space for the switch track, natch.
Or am I way off base with that?
I don’t get all the hand wringing over the launches. I think it’s going to be the most thrilling thing ever even though it won’t snap necks.
“Arms down! Hold On! Head back, but only if you feel like it because it won’t be all that necessary!”

Maybe because it was a sensation that you can't experience almost anywhere? My car likely can do 0-74mph close to the same time, or better, than what TTD 2.0 will do... Which is fun and all, but I get to experience that all the time. You really think it will be the most thrilling thing ever?
I don't get why this is a surprise to people that others would be disappointed in this change, as that launch was one of the best moments out there.
Again, no doubt it will be a fun ride at the end of the day... But let's not sugar coat it, the thing is getting neutered, big time.
I think everyone is with you that it won't be the same, and the intensity of the launch won't be matched. Where I turn the page is when you use words like "neutered." There's a big space between "0-120 in four seconds" and "neutered," and TT2 seems like it will be closer to the former than the latter on the qualitative, subjective scale of "whoah."
Mix that in with the tried and true Enthusiasts Hate Everything Always and yeah, people get their backs up.

Sucks
I don't want to live in a world where 400-foot tall rides that go 120 mph are not impressive and amazing and fun to me. That would definitely make me not fun at parties.

Painting seems to have ground to a halt since the week of the announcement, no? Wonder if it’s due to weather/rain or if it’s something else?
I think something that would be really cool would be for Zamperla to send a lead car over to put on display, maybe during Halloweekends. Definitely would keep the buzz going!
I never said it would not be fun. I literally say "Again, no doubt it will be a fun ride at the end of the day".
I think I can sum this up quite easily...
RRR > Dragster 2.0 Launch (probably? Maybe?) > Magnum (just so you know where that stands, Brett).
Come on man... you're splitting hairs here. When is the last time anyone ever used "neutered" or "lethargic" to describe fun things?
"I can't wait to go on Roller Coaster 1, it's neutered and lethargic!"
