Don't even think of taking out your phone while walking down one of those red light district alleys in Amsterdam. Learned that one the hard way.

Say what you will about the name (it's alright), but I really like the look of the logo (really gets at the steel-on-wood aspect of the ride). I've never gotten off a ride and thought "that would've been great if it didn't have such a stupid name." Not even Montezooma's Revenge ...

I can't fathom having a strong opinion about a name. Do people ever really ride a coaster and think, "I would like this so much more if it had a better name"?

No. No one does that...

Twenty odd years ago, I was compulsive about determing the ranking of each coaster I rode by giving points for various categories. A coaster's name could receive up to five points towards the ride's total.

...anymore.

As a few people here might understand, it's very difficult to find a good name for a creative project. A lot of the good ones or obvious names have already been taken.

It's a pretty big deal when you are writing a book to get the title just right. People put a lot of thought into their pen name as well.

It's also a big deal when you start a new band or release a new album to get the name right. Even finding a great song title is kind of difficult in some cases.

I'm sure a scriptwriter has a difficult time deciding on a title for the show, or episode.

And then there are names for characters and places in your settings if they don't already exist.

And what about when a person starts a new business? I be there are many more examples that I am forgetting.

People who have to come up with a name or title understand how difficult and important it is. It's usually not a simple process to come up with a good name, and then it's not easy to figure out if that name is going to be well-received. This is why I appreciate a good name.

I can't be the only one that has beaten himself up over some terrible name choices for RCT rides.

Like "Roller Coaster 1" and "Hot Dogs 2"?

I would hope that Cedar Fair has already taken care of the Steel Vengeance band situation. It couldn't have been that hard to do a quick Google search, throw a bit of money their way, and avoid the whole "Twisted Sisters/Twins" debacle.

If anything, this is good for the band. Anyone who knows me knows I'm a huge Metal fan, (My license plate is SLAY3R) and I'd never heard of Steel Vengeance until yesterday.

(^ cant spell Slayer....)

And not to worry. They've probably forgotten about themselves.

A good name can't make a bad ride good and a bad name can't make a good ride bad. But a good name (and good logo) can enhance my general warm feelings or affection toward a ride. It's not a major thing, but it's something.

I'm not any less likely to ride a coaster because it has a terrible name, but I am a lot less likely to buy merchandise for it if I dislike the name or logo. It works the other way too -- if coaster has a logo I like enough I might buy a shirt for it even if it's not a coaster I'm especially fond of. This is why I have a shirt for Moreys Sea Serpent.

Did you go to Casa Rosa? One of the best stageplays I've seen. Way better than Cats.

1) Part of the problem here is that "Mean Streak" was a pretty inspired name.

2) And for folks who do things like post on coaster websites, it seems obvious that "Steel Vengeance" is just the latest name pulled from the "[Material] __________" box. (Or "______ [Material]"). Doubtful your average parkgoer knows/cares.

3) That said, "Ironwood" would be a pretty cool name for a hybrid, and I'm surprised it hasn't been grabbed.

4) For that matter, "Iron Vengeance" has a better ring, to me, than "Steel Vengeance." But what do I know?

5) If nothing else, maybe people will learn how to spell "vengeance" as a result of this (a la "millennium").

6) It really does seem like they could have done better, though.

Yeah. I'd happily line up to ride "Streaker Vengeance".

Early indications are looking like that may not be the case. ;-)

I actually like the name. I think it's fitting for Frontiertown, as well as pays a little bit of homage to "Mean Streak", by coming back to life with a Steel Vengeance. I think it is marketing savvy as well because it's unique.

If memory serves, there was some of this same type of chatter when "Millenium Force" was announced. Seems like that ride turned out to be OK (sarcastically said).

Besides, this ride looks awesome and I really don't care if they call it "sh** on a stick". I'm going to get in line again and again and I'm guessing most of you are going to do the same.

One question - the front of the train looks like it has two red lights. Are they doing a lighting package on the train or the structure?

Fever I really enjoy the Simpsons. It's just a shame that I am starting to LOOK like Homer.

@ Carousel Rabbit: How about Millennium Force? My favorite roller coaster, one of my least favorite names, one of my favorite logos.

I agree that a name isn't going to change my opinion of the ride itself. It looks amazing and I cannot wait. But after giving it a day (even thought it took me 2 seconds to say "laaaaaame," I still don't feel it's grown on me at all.

Is it better than "Mine Blower?"

All coaster names sound silly if you think about them too hard, and break the name down.
Bat-man....ok a bat that's a man.
El toro?? Don't know Spanish
Raging bull.. why not slithering snake?
X2? Ok a letter and a number
Montu...... Ok need I say more
Maybe word plus a number is cool like, fury 325 or intimidator 305.
Eventually the name will just become "vengeance." Which is perfectly fine with me.

I can't believe it's gone this far without someone mentioning that the name is just one syllable off from the name they use(d) for their impulse coasters - Steel Venom.
