Cedar Point today announced "maXair," a giant Huss Frisbee. The new ride will be located on the games midway near Space Spiral, and is part of a $10 million capital improvement plan for the park.

Nice to see CP building a quality flat ride. I just can't help but wonder why they didn't go for one of those other "giant" Huss rides like the ones that Canada's Wonderland has.
Shaggy, there is a difference in stating the obvious, and coming in here just to say "They're only doing this because PKI has one cause they're in competition!!11!1". I'm sure that will be the whine when moosh's wish comes true...

I totally agree. I'm sure they were in the market for a flat and said "Look @ what PKI added. Its got good capacity, its a good ride, and it would fit right in with our 'larger than life' ride image. Let's get one".

You don't fit my description of a Troll by any means. You presented it in a logical way:). Regardless, I'm glad that there are now going to be 2 Giant Frisbee rides within 6 hours of me, Yay!

Shaggy, you make a good point. I think that one of the reasons that CP is successful is because, more often than not, they don't take huge risks. They more or less stick with proven technology. Magnum was built after the Bandit in Japan proved to be a good idea. Mean Streak was built after Hercules and Texas Giant made waves for being huge wood coasters. Raptor and Mantis were built after B&M built that type of coaster elsewhere. And TTD was built only after the Intamin Rocket Coaster technology was (somewhat) proven at KBF. This decision seems to fall right in line with decades of "wait and see" mentality when it comes to adding new rides.
Ok...I'll take the bait. I'm disappointed in this announcement.

NOT because I was expecting some recording breaking coaster, but I was hoping the new flat might be a Jump2 or "Swat" (@ SFAW...sorry, I don't know the real model name.) Of course, my reasons are purely personal and selfish...I'd never ridden either of these rides, but want to. (However, not enough to make the trip to Houston or Toronto <g>)

That being said, the giant frisbee is a good move for CP. PKI's has proven to be a great choice, and will be a good fit at CP.

SFAW's SWAT is an S&S Sky Swatter... which would have made an excellent addition, by the way!

maXair is said to turn clockwise - doesn't Delirium turn counter clockwise?

yes it does turn counter clock wise. thats cool how threre making it different. im so happy that there finally getting one and are wishes came true. Thank you cedarpoint!!!!!!

Way cool addition. While Cedar Point has some decent flats, I think few of them could be considered "thrilling", and definately none of them are the latest or greatest. I really like the trend in the industry with new flats being built in parks in lieu of coasters which tend to be more costly in an industry that could be described as flat at best.

I think this is what CP really needs. This is really a better addition than a coaster for them IMHO.

I agree it's better than a coaster at this point. I've been wishing for one of these at CP since I rode Delirium at PKI during Beastbuzz 2003. We rode it three times in a row without getting off and even this old lady had no ill effects.

I'm very thrilled at this news.

Woohoo! :) I'm thrilled too!
From CP's press release...

"maXair will have a “retro” color scheme of orange, blue, yellow and red"

If you ask me, a "retro" color scheme depends on the time period you're going for.

50's and 60's = Turquoise, Pink, Chrome

70's = Avocado Green, Harvest gold, brown, and orange

Who decided that orange and the three primary colors are "retro"?

Later,
EV

Probably whoever decided the games area would be themed to--wait, lemme guess--the 50s.

Oh, well. Better the 50s than the damn Gemini/Magnum/DT/MF FyootureBots again!

Cedar Point- Safely *following* the best parks in the industry. ;)

Too bad it has to be the competition and I don't care much. Should be uber fun for the locals and diversify their flat collection though. PKI is CP's biggest park competition afaik, so I'm sure some people will notice that.

When did PKD or Hershey get a Giant Frisbee? ;)
Dragster was obviously inspired by PKD's addition of Hypersonic XLC and Millennium Force was spawned and heavily influenced by Hershey's heavily unbraked and fast-paced Wild Mouse.

+Danny, or not ;)

Cedar Point could have at least gone with a different color scheme than PKI's Delirium. It is a great ride and the capacity is awesome. I think the main reason CP is going to a flat ride is space. Being a landlocked park has to hurt. I love both parks and do not see a need for 2 parks with the same ride. Ohoo wait, CP's will go the other direction so it makes it totally different. lol
WHAT Cedar point isnt adding another coaster!!! WTF!!

Cedar point is loosing it..... ;)

Let's see Familyman, PKI and CP both have Eli Scramblers, Huss Troikas, Zierer Wave Swingers, Intamin Rapids Rides, and Eyerly Monsters (to name a few). So why is this addition such a problem? ;)

I am extremely excited that a Northern Ohio park is finally getting a Frisbee-type of ride. Hershey's Claw was an absolute blast and I expect this ride will be just as fun, if not moreso.

Wow, one post that covers every major misconception about parks (some in general, some in particular) and makes a couple of hilariously "enthusiast" statements in one quick swoop.

We have a winner!

Is it hilarious, or is it hardcore? :)
Please note this is a Frisbee XL. Due to it's structure, floorless seating, number of seats, and nearly being the same exact ride as PKI's Delirium, it makes this a Frisbee XL.
