Cedar Point a terrorist target?

I heard a quick blurb on a local newsradio station here in Columbus about someone in Michigan having a plot to, as the radio put it, "blow up" Cedar Point. I did some checking and found a story out of Detroit. Here's a link:

I don't think this is big enough to go in the News section, but I thought you'd like to know. For what it's worth, these guys aren't going to change any of my plans!

Althought it's very serious I find it very funny. An amusement park would be a good place for a terrorist. Thousands of people a day!

Whats so funny about that?

CBCon Quote "We didn't even get wet"......30 seconds later you hear plop, then splash!!!!

Yes but terrorists are threatining blowing up everything these days. They can blow up amusement parks, skyscrapers, bridges, busses, trains, and even mini-malls for what it is worth. This is all to keep you on your feet and thinking.....There is a chance with anything that you go to that it could be hit by a terrorist. Welcome to post 9-11...

Funny?!?! Was it funny when the WTC was attacked because it was a good place for a terrorist, with thousands of people going in and out of there a day?!?!

Maybe I have completely misunderstood you...but I would definitely not call it "funny"

No it wasn't funny at all, terrorists aren't funny, nothing in that matter is. I origonally thought it was funny because my friend was just talking to me earlier about amusement parks and terrorists. I'm sorry I left that out in my origonal post. Hope that clears it up.

Lets look at this logically, terrorists don't like America. But the thing they hate most is the American Government. Every thing that was hit or planned to be hit on 9-11 was govermental. They want to hurt our economy and taking out a amusement park is not going to do much to it. And if they were trying to kill a lot of people, they would go for a baseball game or a football game which houses 60,000 plus. They know the only way they can hurt America is by hurting the goverment. So unless you find George Bush riding MF, don't expect anything to happen at CP anytime soon.

At this point, I am not going to let a terrorist threat (real or hoax) prevent me from riding coasters. America received a wake-up call on Sept. 11th. We should continue going out and about, but we should be more vigilant.
I thought of this very thing. Standing in the middle of a queue line, a suicide bomber could kill or hurt hundreds. Terrorists don't like our government or us. Write to your lawmakers and let them know of any ideas that you have. I have. No one knows what will be attacked next. If you help the government with ideas that just pop into your head, you will be helping yourself and everyone else.

This is true, but, the ultimate goal for terrorists is not destruction of property (govt. or otherwise) or loss of life. The name alone suggests what the goal is: Terror. One thing that would strike up terror is if hundreds or thousands of ordinary people were killed doing something as ordinary as visiting an amusement park like CP. Take that for what its worth.

Hello, they already attempted to blow up Disneyland. That was their orginal plans:

-White House

-Disneyland

-Space Needle

Then it was heard that something bigger than the the previous three would come.

All their previous plans failed though:

-White House was never shattered

-Disneyland, only one bomb blew up before the park was shut down and the others were recovered

-Space Needle, van of explosives was caught before mission can be completed

Lets look at this logically, terrorists don't like America. But the thing they hate most is the American Government. Every thing that was hit or planned to be hit on 9-11 was govermental. They want to hurt our economy....

One of their largest goal is to destroy are economy which is where the tourist industry came in. One could wonder why they attacked Disneyland instead of Disney World? The World Trade Center in NYC were the largest commercial buildings in the world, another attempt in destroying our economy, go for the source, but did they stop to think that there are 7 other World Trade Centers standing and that large commercial headquarters are located in major cities all throughout the country? That Brainwashing they give to their members must really screw the brain cells.

You misunderstand terrorism. The idea of terrorism is to create terror. That is why Palistinians blow up school buses in Isreal. Detonating a bomb in a park like CP or WDW would create terror and disrupt the lives of citizens. All large amusement parks should be considered terrorist targets. I'm not the only person who believes this. In Tom Clancy's book "Rainbow Six" part of the story takes place in an amusement park.

Tom Clancy, now theres a guy who has a grip on what a terrorist really could do.

I never heard a thing about Disney Land being attacked. There were four planes, 3 which unfortunatly did their desctruction and 1 which was heading for the White House.

I understand that terrorism is creating terror. And terrorist want to cause as much terror as possible. Unfortunatly, the more people that are killed will cause more terror and terrorists know this. And if a terrorist is going to bring a bomb into a park, it will not kill as many people as it would kill say in a public venue like a baseball stadium. A stadium is so crunched together, more people would die. It is sad but true. More people attend sporting events each year than amusement parks. Most stadiums hold 50,000 plus, and when you consider how many events there are each year...

I still think that the terrorists ultimate goal is to take out the goverment and hurt our economy. Our economy would suffer more from a dead president than 300 dead people at a amusement park.

The Disneyland incident was different from 9-11.

PointMan is right...terrorists are trying to create terror. Just today a suicide bomber hit a restaurant in Tel Aviv. They go after places where (innocent) people gather. Who knows what they could be thinking of (if anything) for the U.S. It is possible that they could attack an amusement park or even just a roller coaster. The parks are trying to keep a vigilant eye on people to try and maintain what has always been a very safe environment. I'm visiting a record number of parks (for me) this summer...these guys aren't going to scare me away.

Vertigo, You are right!. They could care less about CP. It's our economy they are trying to hurt. Unfortunately our media (newspapers, news stations ) are the ones who are scarring everyone into beleiving crap like this. If the local news said monkey's were invading the planet Mars, I'm sure 95% of the nation would beleive it just because we have been tought that the news is always right.
Disneyland incident? Anyone have a link to that news story?

Take a look at "The Sum of All Fears" (book or movie). The terrorist target is the Super Bowl. While I agree that a large amusement park would be a viable target, I put my vote in that a more likely target would be a major sporting event. Already mentioned is the large number of people, but don't forget the other gain of attacking a game.....Television Coverage. Most people aren't scared of what they don't know or can't see. I'm sure that all of us were disturbed by the TV images of 9-11 being shown over and over again. What terrorist wouldn't want that kind of exposure?

Later,

This is a frightening discussion ... You also have to consider that if they hit one park, that puts concern in the minds of everyone in every park across teh country - many targets with one shot

And the 'Canes are gonna take 3 straight just you watch!! (of course I'd never put money on that ... )
