Cedar Fair Windseeker rides close after malfunction at Carowinds

Posted | Contributed by Jeff

The WindSeeker ride at Carowinds malfunctioned Sunday, stranding 64 passengers high above the amusement park for more than an hour. The malfunction happened at 1:15 p.m. on Sunday — a year and two weeks after the same ride malfunctioned in the same way. The malfunction caused Cedar Fair, which owns Carowinds, to suspend WindSeeker operations at six locations.

KI Windseeker open 7/31 as seen from my deck

If Kings Island has opened up their Windseeker, does that mean the other ones might be open as well?

I agree with another post. I will hope that MA doesn't get a recycled Wind Seeker, or a new one. It will just give the park a reason not to add anything new or exciting for another 5 years. Wind Seeker would be the last ride on my want list. As in, not on the list at all.

There was a rumor on the news back when they were adding Thunderhawk, that MA was going to get an unusual Dive Coaster, in it's five year plans. So, if that is the case. It should have been built already, or maybe it's coming next year. But, this is also from the same source that said. MA was going to get a 200 foot hyper coaster, and Cedar Fair scrapped it.

But, that's probably all old news. NO WIND SEEKER MA!!

Also, MA can't handle evac from it's Ferris Wheel! Imagine what getting people off a ride that is 200 feet higher! It would be a nightmare.

Seems unlikely that Cedar Fair would move a Windseeker to begin with, given the issues the rides have been having.

Seems even more unlikely that Cedar Fair would move a ride with known operational issues to a park that by definition -- it's one of the most profitable parks in the chain -- doesn't need a high profile addition to draw in customers.

Fun Fact: Carowinds only has one R.

And Millennium is spelled with 2 n's ;-)

It seriously feels like last year. As cliche as that is, time really did fly by, and there are days I forget that it's been that long, and I'm into my 30's and not in my teens.

Get off my lawn, and no puking in my toilet, either!!

How about I get off your toilet and puke on your lawn?

Hi

That's totally allowed. In fact, it's encouraged!

They are most likely all open, except for Knott's. The one at Cedar Point was running on 8/1 when I was there last.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

They must have just shut it down for a day just to be cautious. Thanks for the update Pete.

I suppose it's better than getting off on your lawn or toilet.
