Cedar Fair to buy SFWoA

I am just as surprised as everyone else. When I woke up this morning and checked my e-mail, I thought it was a joke and actually looked at the date to make sure it wasn't April yet.

I think this is great news. I think it is too early to speculate but perhaps things like improved capacity, good customer service, and better crowd control are right around the corner (literally).

I don't have any clue where they could begin as far as sorting out the confusion that could follow with season pass holders. I guess I am glad I didn't get a Six Flags pass this year.

I was saying the same thing: "It's not 4/1 yet??" :)

NOTE: Severe fecal impaction may render the above words highly debatable.

I worked at SFWoA when it was so and at Six Flags Ohio. This is so strange to me. I almost feel numb about this. I have fond childhood memories with both Cedar Point and Geauga Lake. It will not be the same Geauga Lake from the 1980s when it was this great family park (and less than $20 to get in). I hope that Cedar Fair realizes that this park actually MEANS something to the people of Northeastern Ohio. It's our heritage, our park. It's not this corporate thing that you should mess with. If anything, make it better. Fix the asphalt, clean the garbage, FIX THE RIDES! Make this the family park where grandparents want to take thier grandchildren on a summer day when mom and dad are at work. Make this place the gem of Portage and Geauga County that it once was.

Keep the old logo from a few years ago and bring back GEAUGA DOG!!!

It would be a very bad move for Cedar Fair not to accept Six Flags World's of Adventure season passes.

Can you imagine all of the negative publicity?

I would assume that they would accept current, valid World's of Adventure passes but I doubt that they would exchange them for a "Geauga Lake" pass that could be used at other Cedar Fair parks.

Coasterchild: What gives you the idea they'd do that?

They honored the MiA passes when they bought that park and the Knott's passes when they bought that one. There's no reason to belive they wouldn't honor them. The only questions involve reciprocity.

I think what you're actually doing is attempting to plug your self-named website. And no, we will not visit it. Quit with the links already 'fore you wind up with REMMAHNAB on your forehead.

Also, I don't know if this has been mentioned but:

Apparently they sold all their European parks to an Investment firm also today.

CPlaya: I didn't know that. That's more tightly coupled that I had expected. More good news for "synergy"!

I know Robocoaster. But it is the truth...But I wonder if CF will do any ride swapping ?
They got all kind gems from SFWOA, Mission Bermuda Triangle, Silver Bullet, and oooo the starfish and X flight ( even tho a great ride..but it was never FULLY operational with all 3 trains!) I am so excited about the possiblities CF can do for this park. I wasnt even going to go there for 2004...now I will visit the park ! hurray for ohio ! THIS IS SUCH GREAT NEWS !

Six Flags will retain ownership of all animals currently located at the park.

I wonder how the arrangement will work out for both companies?

Will Six Flags and Cedar fair get along?

Six Flags and Cedar Fair don't have to get along, Six Flags is taking the animals with them when they pack up and move out. There will be no animals at Geauga Lake in 2004.

I'd rather be in my boat with a drink on the rocks, than in the drink with a boat on the rocks.

This has been such a HUGE suprise. I honestly think this has been one of the best kept secrets ever in the history of the amusement park industry. No one predicted this. No one even speculated this. This was just one of those random pop-ups from left field that smacks you right in the head!

I'm still waiting for Dick Kinzel to come out and say they were just kidding and it was all a big prank :)

BTW, put me in the camp of people that believe this is a good thing. Should be fun teaching all the ride ops how to run a coaster with more than one train though!

Certain victory.

I wonder if all the animals will be moved to their only other park really suited for animals right now, SFMW?

CtCF-Whos is hoping we can get some dolphins so we can get back our dolphin show at SFoG! ;)

Coaster_nerd dont be afraid of cedar fair. MIA was always my local park and i had tons of memories of the park before CF bought it. The thing that CF did was the greatest thing to ever happen to the park. Unlike SF, they dont totally take a park and turn it into a Six Flags __________, and give it everything six flags and get rid of everything non six flags, which gives the park no charector. Instead CF just improves the park, MIA is still MIA just cleaner, more pleasent, better operated. When GL was bought by SF is wasnt GL anymore it was simply another six flags built on the same property of GL. Now however the park will hopfully and most likley be turned into its own park and not just one of many almost identicle SF parks.
The main way to look at it is like this. After SF buys and takesover a park, the park is a different park, its no longer an original unique park, it becomes a six flags, almost everything thats a reminder of what the park use to be is totally erased, the name is even changed, and it seems like all the history of the park is erased. however when CF buys a park its still the exact same park just under new management. Everything may recieve a totally new coat of paint but its still just the same park, its just run better. *** Edited 3/10/2004 6:45:38 PM UTC by Intamin***

Doubtful, Frontier City is getting a major petting zoo for the 2004 season....
This is probibly part of their ride rotation program, but with animals.

I'm not saying I disagree, but that's exactly what 90% of the Allentown locals I've ever talked to accused CF of doing to Dorney Park after the takeover.

They may have handled MiA differently, but 9 out of ten long-time Allentown locals will tell you Dorney was better before Cedar Fair.

(a tad off topic, but something I wanted to point out :) )

Is anyone allowed to listen in on the conference call, which starts right now?

I wonder if all the animals will be moved to their only other park really suited for animals right now, SFMW?

SFMW has been without a killer whale for their main stadium for several years now, anyone else not see SFMW now getting a huge influx of new marine animals! Great news for SFMW!
