Look, I'm not calling everybody who tries to scam free parking horrible, awful people- but by doing so you're saying to the park "look, I feel as though I deserve this something extra," when infact, you don't. You want parks to respect you, yet you give them no respect in return. I'm sorry, it's the truth.
It does bother me when people say they "got away with it" at this park or that park. It doesn't make it better...it's like saying to a police officer who pulls you over for speeding, "Well, I got away with it before..." or "I got away with it over in Ohio." Yeah, parking fees might suck just like speed limits, but they're still laws and policies put in place for a reason.
If it makes you feel better or if you really aren't familiar with the policies, go ahead and ask. Just please don't roll your eyes or complain when you still have to pay. It's not the parking attendant's fault that they're charging you- they're just doing their job.
I'm just trying to give you guys a different perspective, that's all :).
Also, it's not like it's your average joe asking for free parking, we're talking about people who have forked over literally hundreds of dollars on season passes (and/or parking passes for applicable parks).
As for the speeding ticket example.. What about ambulences or fire trucks? They speed, and "get away with it" all the time. However, they don't always speed. Sometimes there's no need to speed. The ambulence driver isn't going to insist on going over 70mph at all times... likewise, we don't insist on getting free parking.
And we're not saying "look, I feel as though I deserve this something extra"... we're saying "Hey, I already gave loads of money to one of your sister parks. Can I park free here?" If they say no, we say "ok, that's fine, here's more money for parking".
Heck, I even have money ready in case they say no.
For the record, it even says in the Bible "Ye have not because ye ask not." (I forget where, but it's in there). Basically, it means "you didn't get it because you didn't ask for it".
