Does the person that suggested a panel get to volunteer to be a judge? ;)

One thing I am still not sure on is where we will submit the final entries. Will we post them on CBG or will the be sent to Lord Gonchar or KTS?
Most likely to the saved games section of CB Games. I'll post rules with the upload. But it seems to make sense that way. You'll download the scenario, build on it and upload your saved game. The three judges for each contest can get the files straight off of the site. Each contest will most likely have it's own thread on this board too, for announcement of winners and general discussion for each contest. As it comes together it'll all make sense and we'll get a feel for what works. But as of right now, there's the plan.
I'm glad to see so many people into the idea :)

That'd sure avoid any clogging of the boards for those just interested in browsing and not being a part of the contest. I'd imagine sorting through a bunch of contest entries would be cumbersome if that's not what you're looking for. It could ultimately turn people off from the site.
Maybe Jeff could just add another choice in the drop-down menu for "RCT2 Contest." I don't think that that would be too hard of a programming change.
I definitely like the idea of all contests being put out in scenario form. Keeps everyone on a level playing field.

Come on, fhqwgads!
Is the contest going to be just one round or a like three rounds with eleminations?

They do it that way over at rct2.com for VP of the month. The judges are made up of staff members (in this case, LG and KTS), a randomly selected member, and I believe the previous winner. And everyone EMAILS their sumbissions. You'll have to go over to the site for all their rules.
Anyhow, this is moving along great. :)

The alternative is to allow multiple entries. You got "one upped" - back to the drawing board.
The truth is probably more along the lines of you never know what's going to appeal to each contest's judges. You may think you outdid someone, but will the judges?
It is a valid concern. Anyone else care to chime in?
I'm still wishing there was a way to work the file ratings into the equation somehow. Three rotating judges with authorative decision is cool and as fair as it gets, but there's something about "the voice of the people" that appeals to me too. Granted there'd be people messing with the system, but I have a few ideas that could get around that. (i.e. votes only count from screen names that uploaded an entry) - it'd be a fourth voice in choosing the winner. I dunno...
Let's see if a seperate board for contests is possible and go from there.
Keep tossing the ideas out here and remember to pass your contest scenarios along to me at scenarios@coasterimage.com

Besides, think about the effect...no one is going to think, "Well, these other entrees are lame so I'll just make one slightly better." The only thing that might happen is that people will have to up their game more than ever, and that can't be a bad thing unless all you care about is winning. Allowing open competition can only make people try harder and make better rides, and with so many awesome rides to download, everyone will win :)
If there's only one entry per contest allowed, then you should try to do the very best that you can before you submit your entry. There's no shame in not being the winning designer. If someone else does better, good for them.
I also think that the "people's votes" should definitely count. Either as 1/4 of the vote (with the other 3/4 of the vote divided as 1/4 going each to: LG, KtS, and the previous winner.)
Either that, or the masses should vote on all of the entries, and the three judges would then pick between the top three (five?) entries to declare a final winner. This last choice would seem to over ride any "ballot-box stuffing" that would occur, and would keep the fans interested.
I'm honestly not interested in entering a contest where only 2 or 3 people would judge it. I think this is a "by the people, for the people" type of thing. If there were prizes, it'd be different; but since it's just for fun, let everyone in on the game.
I sure am using "quotation marks" a whole lot in this post.

I agree. The "people" should have some say in it. I also see the potential abuse with certain "people" creating 2 or 3 gazillion screen names and screwing with the system. If you saw the top 10 ratings the day before CB Games went offline, you saw how easy it is to do.
The three judges would be KTS, the previous winner, and the creator of the contest scenario - that's the plan as it stands. Which, now that I type it, I just realized there's no set rules for *how* they decide. Do they all have to agree? Does each pick one? WTF? I guess we need to work that out before we start this, huh?
Even still, I agree that user ratings need to fit in somewhere. So who volunteers to be the genius that drop the perfect idea on us here?
I still haven't received a single scenario. scenarios@coasterimage.com
