Talk about unintended consequences:
Man, that's some invasive BS. There may be "an app for that", but if it tracks me, it doesn't go on my phone.
When I switched car insurance a couple of years ago, I used one of those tracking apps for 3 months and got back a pretty nice refund on my first few months of premiums. It tracked speed, sudden stops, and driving during higher risk overnight hours. I can't read the article because of my work ad blocker, but I'm willing to bet that this was about more than a roller coaster ride. I'm far from the safest driver (at least I wear a seatbelt) and I still got the near perfect score that my agent said most people get.
Not that I'd be at all interested in trying it out, but I wonder if I'd get a refund since I put less than 50 miles a week on my car. Prior to 2020, my average per week was somewhere around 450. Barely driving at all is safe driving, right?
Miles traveled would be good for me, because the car that I drive has only 20k miles after three years. But I launch off of every red light that I can. Probably not great for said score.
