Cape Typhoon (or is it?) Screenshots/Info

Soaked isn't going to make that happen.

Why? How do you know? I am not saying you are necessarily wrong. But no one here can predict what the final code will look like for Soaked or what improvements will be made between now and JUNE.

But to each's own. Now that patch 2 has addressed the performance issues I was having, I am having fun with it. You can do some pretty neat stuff with the game. And having more rides and especially things like the waterfalls will make it even more enjoyable.

Are there things I would like to see changed still? Sure. But I can say that about any game including RCT1 & 2.

Except build parks, fill them with peeps and enjoy it. ;)

But other than that, sure it's a real treat.

heh, well, when I play it it's usually for the coaster designer anyway.. unless I feel like digging a crater to crash trains/peeps into (they just won't die! *maniacal laughter* :))

For anything else, I go back to RCT2

If you look in the back right of that screenshot, it appears they have added parking lots. There are busses and cars and stuff. Very interesting..

Considering that the focus of this expansion pack is water parks, I think the developers should have payed more attention to how slides work. Except for family raft rides (such as the big white one at Soak City), water slides do not have banking like a bobsled ride does; they simply have higher edges bolted on to the slide where riders might slide up the side a bit. In addition, the slides shown seem to randomly dump off 10' above the pool--this is definitely going to frustrate people who are going for realism, as most slides don't end in a gigantic drop. I know I'm being picky, but a game that focuses on water elements should really have splashdown pools and deceleration troughs. I'm hoping that we'll see more detail into the water attractions as we progress closer to the release date; however, I'm also kind of worried considering that RCT3 is full of things that were never executed all the way through.

One reason that I'm paying such close attention to this expansion pack is the fact that I'm such a huge waterpark junkie. In fact, I've been working on a waterpark in RCT2 since the day it was released, composing the park of rides and scenery that closely resemble attractions and elements found in real water parks. I was excited to see that I'd be able to actually make a functional waterpark with Soaked!, since the methods I had to use made my entire park not accessible to peeps. However, I've seen a very limited amount of water elements thus far, meaning that the water park feature of RCT3 is going to grow old very fast unless they create a wide variety of water slides and attractions.

LOL...well like I said to each's own. I can build parks just fine, don't really care that my rides don't have "real-life" two hour waits for them and find plenty in the game to enjoy as it stands now.

And I think I'll feel even more that way with waterfalls, water and laser shows, and the long awaited (for me) Parachute and Wipeout rides. Even if I hated it, I don't see a bunch of alternatives out there, do you? It's not like there are dozens of theme park sim games out there like there are FPS type games.

Not to get off topic or anything but I would like to see an expantion where you can add hotels for your peeps to stay in. But, I guess it wouldn't matter if you can't even play the game without if freezing up :)

i'm not sure what to put here..

Who needs a good running game when you have pretty graphics to keep the kids entertained

¬_¬

H20 Mixmaster???? For fancy laser shows whilst the kids are peeing in the pool at 10fps.

Words cannot express how much I'm looking forward to this one.

Also notice on the site when you choose expansion packs there are 4 spaces and the first one is the water park one, meaning we get 3 more packs of new rides and items to play with at 10fps.

hopefully these expansions are actually useful, unlike RCT2's Expansions.

I am also a little frustrated with Atari. Once again they are trying to cater to wishlists instead of make a game that works.

I Think I can say safely that most of us agree, they waste their time on wants, rather than the game acutally working. And I know most of the parks if not too big operate at 10 FPS unless its Gonch's like Mystic Acres, then its down to the gritty 1 FPS, lol!

I'm curious as to what you guys were getting for fps in my Seven Stones park. I was trying to figure out if taking the time to shrink the map helps or not.
The more and more I read about the "gripes" and "problems" with RCT3, the more and more I am content to stick with RCT2... wich in itself would not be a bad game IF we could use some of the scenarios from RCT1... (love the features of RCT2... but I think the scenarios are pretty lame.)

But as this is a RCT3 thread... I'll let you all get back to your p-ing and moaning. Carry on.

I have no p!ss & moans with RCT3... I absolutely love the game... I'm not pleased with the frame rate I get on it... and at night with all the lighting effects, it seems to be REALLY sluggish conforming land to flatten or raise it....

...but I completed all the senarios, and want more, more, MORE! I'll probably have to create or download user-created senarios, because there's only so much of sand-box mode that you can keep on playing before you get bored... although always trying to find the "perfect" design of a coaster never really gets boring.

...this is an expansion that I really feel could be great. As long as they address the frame-rate issues, I think this could bump up the game to the same status as the RCT1&2 games. Aside from that, I don't know why anyone b!tches about the gameplay... the peeps act realistically, and they don't abandon rides like they did pre-patch.
...the only issue I had was the last senario where my peeps were starting to get clogged in a small section of path, which was fixed once I opened it up a little more.

All this being said... I think I am going to wait for a "combo" pack in the future (like they did with both RCT1 and RCT2) before I try #3.... let all of the bugs be cleared up first. *** Edited 2/21/2005 4:37:14 PM UTC by SLFAKE***

I am curious...do you people have a crystal ball or something? Because who said they are not trying to make a game that works? Per their own press interview info on Soaked, they are working to improve the performance as well.

I'm not sure what people want here. All development to cease on Soaked and instead work on a complete rewrite of the game taking years to finish? That's not going to happen at Atari or any other software company for that matter.

What's your point? They said in pre-release interviews that the engine "worked well on a wide range of machines." Clearly that wasn't the case, so why would we be anything but skeptical now?
