Can't get direct x to install

i know my computer can run it i just got it 2 months ago.

Not necessarily true as evidenced by SFDLdan's experience.

That is too true Gonch. As i think Jeff stated:
A newer cheaper computer is made that way by cutting corners, ie, shared ram/video cards etc. (not sure how well of a quote that was.)
Point is, If your 'puter doesn't have a good 3d vid card, it doesn't matter how new it is...

Well I only mentioned it the "new" idea because I had figured this new one would came equiped with a card suitable to run the game in the first place. But eh oh well I'm not gonna wine about it ill just save up for a good card. And pro-long the anticapation of playing the game.

"the only thing I know is that life is short and the only time you've got left is luck"
ok well i'm runnin eveything i need. thats not the point. the point is i need to figure out why it can't find directx if the game installs it. stop waisting postin space and give the facts here. PLEASE I'M ABOUT TO GO CRAZY!!

There's a link near the beginning of this discussion that tells you exactly where you need to go to get DirectX. To save you some time, I'll repost it here.

It should also be on the CD, but since I don't have RCT3 I can't tell you where on the disc to find it.

If you've installed that, and the game complains that it can't find some necessary component of DirectX, then your video card/chip doesn't provide some functionality that the game requires, or you need to update your drivers. *** Edited 12/28/2004 8:34:57 PM UTC by GregLeg***

DirectX on the RCT3 disc is in the main directory in a folder titled "DIRECTX" :)

I think Greg's right - it's a direct X issue with your Vid Card, not with Direct X being on your PC.

Sorry you couldn't read between the lines.

More clearly - your brand new PC probably can't handle the game at this point. (See Greg's input for further clarification)

That's the sad thing in all this. I have seen oh..about 100 post around the net all saying the same thing. "I just got this new computer so I KNOW it should work".

Problem is, it doesn't work that way. It's not the newness of the body, but the engine under the hood that matters! It seems like people want cheap computers that still have everything. That's just not reality folks.

buf: no, the problem is that many people dont know much about computers and comp retailers arent very forthcoming with details. I mean look at this ad ( link ). For those not "In the Know" (tm) the 'Integrated IntelĀ® Extreme 3D Graphics' certainly *sounds* like something that would be good for gaming; though in reality, it is crap. Seriously, comp retailers do a horible job of telling consumers what is "under the hood".

I dunno. I think it is reasonable to expect that the new machines would be capable of efficient (though not superb) gaming. I mean, I know this is not the case since I have done much research the past year since I've gotten interested in PC building. But I dont think this is an unreasonable expectation.

On a personal note, this is why I havent gotten too deep into PC gaming. Besides the fact that I prefer a controller in my hand rather than mouse and keyboard, there seems to always be a constant pressure to upgrade. Like right now, if one wants a really good Doom3 experience, they pretty much have to get a $200+ vid card. Why do that when I can spend $150 and get an Xbox and play essentially the same game? It's weird. A pentium III based comp can handle most things that I do with my comp (Office, Internet) but the minute you want to play a game phbbbttt! I guess that's why I've been primarily a console gamer ('cept for RCT and Starcraft).

Just cut your losses for the time being & go back to playing RCT1 or 2 if you have them.....I've got RCT3 sitting right here in the box it came in because my system simply doesn't meet the requirements for the game & of course short of stealing a PC from a retail outlet there's not much else that can be done to change that.

At least you've got the game & now all you need is the proper system on which to run it,I too am desperate to install my copy as well but until I get a new PC that meets the requirements I'm just gonna have to hang on to it & wait...in the mean time there's always RCT2,now if only I could get my copy of TT to install again.
