Can or Would Arrow Do It?

You're exactly right, but I have always thought that it was the headbanging that people complain about the most. Otherwise, how would wooden coasters be so popular? A good woodie, in my mind, throws you around a bit--although nothing too severe. I think the banging that occurs on Arrow coasters would be tolerable to even the most timid of coaster riders if the OTSRs were replaced by lapbars.

banging is fine, but just not on my head. Heck, the "pain" from slamming into the lapbars on Hurler and Magnum is the sweetest pain in the world. Hurt me more!

The biggest problem is not with Arrow's trains, it's with their track layout. If you notice, there isn't a whole lot of chatter or shifting on the track, and straight line, they are fine. Arrow's are rough around curves. They bank very quickly and they don't heartline their turns or curves, and as such, throw your head against whatever is next to it -- in this case a foam over steel horsecollar. This hurts.

I think that the problem(s) could be corrected by:

a.) Fixing the trains so that thw wheels are
in constant contact with the track
b.) Making minor track changes to smooth
some of the transitions
c.) Removing the OTSRs and installing
lapbars

If the parks would be willing to do this kind of stuff, their old Arrows would be just as good as some of the newer B&Ms and Intamins.

I somehow think that lapbars wouldn't be all that safe in the corkscrews on Arrow coasters... I don't know if it's just me... but there isn't all that much speed when a coaster enters a corkscrew (lateral G's), and with that lesser speed, sometimes I can feel my shoulders pressing on those horse collars as I am in the middle of a corkscrew...

Is it me, or can the G's & a lap bar hold you in during those low speed corkscrews??
