Can I disable the merging of pages?

I hate avatars. And grumpy cat.

Back on semi-topic, it seems the first post of a new thread doesn't observe the floating title bar, which ends up covering the first line of the message. Like this.

Yeah... there are some behavior differences in different browsers. Working on that now.

OK... I think I've got it working silky smooth in all browsers. You may have to do a force refresh, but it's feeling pretty good now. I'm really, really happy with the way it's looking!

Wow, much better! The bar snaps at the right time and direct post links line up perfectly.

Yep, looks great Jeff. Works exactly as it should.

I think you nailed it with the last update. Can't help but want the "tools" and "contribute" links to stay with the scroll now as well.

That I can't do, because if you have a lower screen resolution, you'd never see the ads. For better or worse, I need those to pay the bills.

I don't mind seeing the ads in fact, I would like to see the ads on the right "float"/"stick" too to help frame the page (once past the ads on widescreens lots of "white" space). Maybe the ads could float or stick on the right and change every so often?

Now that the pages auto merge I think I see less ads, because on longer threads where I used to have to click to see the next page 2 or 3 times (and thus new sets of ads), now I don't see any ads. If I have already read a few posts on a thread, I don't see any ads either as I will be positioned past the ads when reading new post, then the pages auto merge - thus less/no ads.

Also I have noticed (yes I do sometimes click them) that the ads sometimes don't seem to be clickable. For example I have been looking at SSD's for my laptop, and I like the fact that ads on sites like CB know that I have been searching for and display related material. On CB today it showed me several Staples ads with SSD's, it wouldn't let me click any of them - but other ads I could click.

I can't explain what ads aren't clickable, that's on the ad companies. But yes, less ads are displayed, and believe me, even when I added the "click for more posts" buttons last year, I saw a decline in ad views. Overall, the number of visitors is pretty steady, but I saw page views (and therefore ad views) drop something like 9%.

That's the thing I struggle with. There's no question that this is a better user experience, but it comes at the expense (literally) of less income. I guess I naively hope more people will join CoasterBuzz Club. :)

I haven't read through this entire thread. But, I have noticed the changes over the last few weeks and like where it ended up. As it was before I found myself occasionally forgetting what thread I was in. That's not hard to do when you combine the topic derailments with my short attention span. So, it has helped me, if ever so slightly. Not having to scroll to the top of the forever expanding page to click the forum link is nice too.

There's no worry about me clicking fewer ads as I am already a CB member. This being in my top 3 most frequented websites, I was more than happy to support it.

Keep up the great work.

Could you insert ads into every "so many" thread refreshes?

I'm not sure. The rules used to be against stuff like that. Honestly, it's the mobile viewing that's eroding ad revenue even more, because of a lot of issues around the way ads are purchased and displayed.
