Bullying

Uncle Mamoosh-

In the movie "The Adams Family" the family dances the Mamooshka. I'm not sure if that's TV series canon or not.

Besides, it's over your head anyway.

Damn, now I really feel old. When I was in school there were no lawsuits or kids being sent to an "alternative" school. Then again there was no ADD or Ritalin. If you got out of line then you got disciplined, not "counseled" or put on medication.

If one kid was bullying another kid it usually involved a good, old-fashioned fist fight. Usually the bully got his/her ass kicked and things would be settled after that. :) I guess teachers and parents have been paranoid for a LONG time.

Then again I am not a parent so what do I know? :)

I feel bad that your brother is going through this. Taking a pipe to school was probably not the best idea but he should not be reprimanded for defending himself. It's even more pathetic that the counselor at your school was that oblivious. I hope things work out for your brother and family!

<---who remembers the MOST trouble I got into was lighting a bunch of fire crackers in the hallway and pulling the fire alarm! Good times!

Hmmm, interesting.... Actually, the school could be found to be liable for neglect in this case with your little bro, JeepGuy. Especially if records exist that your family made attempts to contact school authorities/teachers/officials about the problem, and they did nothing about it. These problems happen ALL THE TIME and, unfortunately, nobody takes a stand on it and some kids can really get hurt by it (rather directly or indirectly).

I don't find it a problem for JeepGuy to discuss this issue on here, especially if there are people on the website who want to talk to him about it. But if that violates the "terms of service" or whatever, then it is up to the moderator/webmaster to (politely) put the kabbosh on it (and I don't know if I spelled that correctly or not but it felt like a real moment and I just HAD to use it).

My advice: Have your family seek legal counsel. Anyway, your brother is lucky you care enough to post about it on CoasterBuzz, lol.

This may wind a coaster related thread.

A few years ago, when my daughter was flirting with trouble, she wound up in a court defferment program. In that program they took these court kids to cedar Point and Geauga Lake on a regular basis, like twice a month!
Yeah, i know. Our tax dollars at work.

Ophthodoc - That is why you need to document everything. The only thing a school district fears worse than bad publicity is a lawsuit. A PUBLIC lawsuit.

Coasterqueen - Usually the bully would get what's coming to him (or her) only in a made-for-TV movie. The typical bully in my area gets in his (or her) share of violence or tomenting. When the parent is called in the typical response is "Kids will be kids" or "This is what kids do."

Now Permit me a few lines to go even furhter off topic...

I always thought, that with all of recent the politically correct outcry against bullys, that a comedy movie could be made that offered local bullys a school or sanctuary to combat this outcry and to enhance their bullying skills. Instead of a gentle but strong Mr. Miagi type of character from Karate kid, there would be former bullys (trailer park types) teaching things like Stinkbomb 101, Learn from animals (How to mark your territory) and When Push Comes To Shove. Not exactly a Disney movie. *** Edited 8/19/2006 1:19:58 PM UTC by Richie Reflux***

Here's To Shorter Lines & Longer Trip Reports!

Something occured to me on the subject of taking weapons to school. We never took weapons to school and here's why: We made them there. In metal shop, we made knives, swords, spears. In wood shop we made baseball bats, night sticks axe handles. Print shop, well, we'd right the warnings or obituaries.

Looking back, I'd say one third of the school was packin' something other than their lunch. i don't recall any stabbings or shootings. *** Edited 8/19/2006 1:49:21 PM UTC by FLYINGSCOOTER***

While I feel for the original poster and his family, this really isn't the right forum, AND it's drifted even more. Sorry.
