Boss opinions

Well I will say that purple train on Boss is not as rough as the yellow. The yellow one will kill you, if you are not careful.

The new and improved! MidwestInfoGuide.COM

For a coaster thats almost 30 y ears old, it runs as smooth or smoother than it's 3 year old baby brother The Boss. Lots of nice airtime! Mr. Freeze was incredible.

It got retracked a little bit this year. Includeing the entire first drop witch is now smoother at this point then ANY other coaster in the park.

There is still a large pill lumber (still on the paletes) and some steel that was lefte over from the retracking. With this still on site and the new footers on Boss, I would say this late summer or winter more work will be done on these rides. So if you thought Boss was bad THIS year come back next year.

If anyone cares it's now my third favorite woodie behind Tonnerre de Zeus and Megafobia and ahead of Timbers, Raven, Legend........

Finally someone besides my self like five coasters more so than The Raven.

Yes indeed the first drop on The Boss is smooth as glass. When you guys refer to G-trains does that mean Gerstlaurs?

I was speaking of SE. And yes the G stands for the evil Gerstlaurs. And I dont think you could have millium flyers on the boss, there too light.

Premier trains on the Boss would be sweet! Oops, did I just give away the fact that SOB is my favorite woodie?

CoasterBuzz club member 316 says I just kicked your @$$!

When I went to SFStL earlier this year I came away with two very different rides on The Boss.

The first time, I rode it like I ride most coasters, hands up all the time, and was jostled around relentlessly. It was in the front even.

Now, I loved the speed of the coaster, and the layout was great, but it was a bit too jerky in my opinion. My wife, who really doesn't like jery rides, really didn't like it!

Later on that day, we decided to ride The Boss again, even though we'd had a rough first ride. I wanted to try a new riding technique. So, on we went again, much to my wife's consternation. Front seat again.

This time however, I only held my arms up over the hills, to catch some airtime, and when I was over the hill, grabbed the metal bars that formed the front of the G-Trains (which I think are really cool looking by the way). My wife held the bars the whole ride.

That second ride was a completely different experience, as we experienced the tremendous speed of the ride, without all the jostling. We just kinda' flowed through the twisted course, locked in place by holding onto the bars.

After that ride, it became a top 5 woodie in my book, riding it that specific way, and my wife thought it was great as well. So I think it really depends on how you ride it with that Jeckel and Hyde coaster.

Take care and God bless!

I think Boss is one of the most beautiful coasters I've ever seen. As I walked through the queue line I thought, "Look out Tremors, you're soon to be #2." Well Tremors had nothing to worry about, and neither did any of the other wooden coasters in my top 10. Heck top 15. The Boss has a great layout, looks good, and is very fast and furious. It's just too dang rough. Maybe all huge woodies are rough, but I guess I just don't like huge woodies then. The G-trains do look nice, but they don't work on Boss. Overall, Boss was the most disappointing coaster I've ever ridden.

I thought the Boss was the roughest woodie I have ridden. It was having some difficulties the day I went. It opened an hour later than everything else and was just running badly. I have only ridden it the one time because of the jarring feeling. The person next to me hit me with their head it was so bad. The rest of SFStL isn't too bad but they need more rides. Mr. Freeze and Batman are the two best rides there (in my own unknowledgeable oppinion) and they aren't the kind of rides I would want to power ride all day.
SFStL needs to improve its maintenance on woodies. I found both Boss and Screamin Eagle very rough. I actually liked SE better. It seemed to have more air. Two days before I rode Boss I had ridden Shivering Timbers. What a difference! ST was the smoothest really big woodie that I had ridden. It had it's legendary air plus a nice helix and some trick track.
Alot of these good rides/ bad rides are caused from thge trains they use. The slowest train the one that tracks the worst is the green and purple train (I am pretty sure could be the other purple train). On the other hand the yellowand green one is the fastest and over all better train then the other two. Unfourtunatly they seldomly run the yellow do to the fact it finishes the track faster and apparently it causes a higher number of people to get sick. IF your ever at the park and you see these two running. Just get a ride on each train in the same seat and you will notice a huge difference in the ride.

The Gers trains are occasionally horrid. I have ridden 3 coasters with the Gers trains and the Boss is I will say the roughest coaster I have been on. It is like the bottom of Ghostriders first drop the whole ride, violent rattling and all that crap. What confuses me is that Villain is rough to a point, I would consider it slightly rougher than Ghostrider, but in the very front it is as smooth as Raven. I also have ridden Twisted Twins and was only hearing horror stories about how rough it was, but I didn't find it rough, at least not Boss bad. I think on demanding coasters Gers trains don't work, but on a little less intense they do. Boss is hands down more intense than Villain and Twisted Twins. I think Gers trains look better but ride worse, and they aren't as comfy as the PTC.
Yeah ok so it wasn't just my imagination. The first drop is smooth and then all hell definitely breaks loose. I wonder how it would ride with ptc trains. I wish i had enjoyed it more because the layout is close to genius. A tunnel would add to the ride.
I rode Boss on media day with the Eagle's PTC's on it and the ride wasn't any better. You don't get the uncomfortable lap bars, but the person sitting on the otside of the helix, got the side of the train in your ribs, which wasn't very comfy at all. Personally, the rougher the woodie, the better. I love the Boss and the Screamin' Eagle, even though they took the old nutcracker bunny hop out of Eagle a few years back. Those who have ridden Eagle for years know exactly what I'm talking about.
