B&M Vertical Drop Coaster: USA?

With Hypersonic, X and an allsortment of vertical or near vertical Coaster, why would you want to build one?

I'd be much more keen to see a B&M flyer in the US.

Bruce, theres a difference, 3 degrees, dont call it a vertical drop, cause its not. Giovanola has a vertical drop coaster, B&M does not. Raging Bull Girl still thinks there is!

My Question would you even know 3 degrees if you were on the ride. I would rather ride a ride that is 87 degrees and not have the wheels snap off. IMHO.

I agree wholeheartedly. I have ridden Oblivion, and I could NOT tell if I was vertical or not. I would much rather survive the ride, and do it over, than not. In fact, when I rode Millennium Force, it felt as though the coaster was curving under itself, and it isn't close to 90 degrees. Get over it Onekong.

onekong: the type of coaster is called a vertical drop coaster. it doesn't have an exact vertical drop, but that's its name. and for God's sake, deal with the three degrees. because if you can't get over three degrees then I don't know how you're going to survive in the real world.

Xen: don't worry, I didn't take that the wrong way. I've never been to Alton Towers let along out of the U.S. I read somewhere that Oblivion was always a walk-on at any time of the day. I took that to mean that it wasn't as successful as it could have been or as AT wanted it to be. the person said that AT wanted it to be their number 1 attraction (until AIR) and instead Nemesis was their num. 1. I wish I knew where I read that, but I definatly remember reading it.

Believe me, Oblivion still gets huge queues! There aren't enough rides at Alton Towers for it not to. But yes, most people seem to prefer Nemesis.

If there was one hedingfor the United States it would probably end up a SFGAm.

I agree that 3 degrees makes no difference. When I am on MF, the drop is 81, but it seems perfectly vertical.

Only to be factual, Shaft of Terror was not built by Giovanola. But I have never seen it in person but judging by the pictures the track does not resemble any other Gio coaster that I have seen.

The only real way I can back this up is to go to http://www.rcdb.com/installationdetail1481.htm and look under Other Information.

Now when will B&M make another Dive Machine? Who knows, but I think they might be researching other elements and testing. I would like to see more pop up around the world. Especially the U.S. :)

B&M+SFGAm=3 excellent coasters.

If they do add to the design in order to make it more marketable, the one thing that I think they should keep is that most of the dive is subterranean. I know this was mostly because of the extreme restrictions at AT, however it is what makes the ride seem so attractive to me. I would love to go on a ride that dives over 100 feet into the ground.

This is an older thread. I think Onekong is long gone....and good riddance. I can only pray that B&M will build a dive machine here in the states. Then, it won't be so long between rides.

i think that a dive machine will be one of CP new costers for next season, mainly cause they don't take up much room and no one else in the US has one, also i think CP will do more with its layout.

i agree with all of you....the angle of drop realy doesnt make a big deal. even S:ROS at SFA, which levels out fairly quickly is scary as hell. and onekong, perhaps you shouldnt post here on Coasterbuzz anymore....callin RagingBullGUy a girl is pretty immature, and you dont really seem to able to hear other peoples opinons. thats what forums or for. for us to discuss. think out your words more next time you feel the urge to post on here.

If a park is looking for a coaster that has a vertical/near-vertical drop, then I think they would best be served by an S&S ride like Hypersonic XLC. I don't know the prices of that ride vs. a B&M Dive Machine, but I am willing to bet that the S&S ride is cheaper. A LOT cheaper. If a park is going to drop about $15 million on a new coaster, I would hope it does more than drop into a hole in the ground and then return to the station. Considering how many Dive Machine B&M has built (2), I see most parks feel the same way!
