And this thread proves why parks build *all* types of rides, from strata-coasters to kiddie coasters, because they wish to appeal to as many people's tastes as possible. Case in point, SFGadv is following up their strata with a wooden coaster. So bigger is not always better but sometimes it is. Are slacks always better than jeans? For some that might be the case. The problem comes in when you try and speak for everyone else, because "most" people, love the variety and don't feel the need to pit one against the other. *** Edited 6/2/2005 11:50:22 PM UTC by DWeaver***
And guess what? Its probably gonna be the biggest wood coaster ever. Now I do think Intamin can do this and make it rideable, Hell it will probably feel like a steel coaster. So whats the point other than claiming a record? Im sure it will be a good ride. Those who've ridden Colosos liked it but it's basically a wooden Superman. I doubt you will find a little 5 ft hill with a twist in it like you will on Raven that stands the whole train.
Nemesis
Not the biggest, tallest or fastest, but in my eyes the best invert(or even steel) coaster out there.
Why becasue it is original and different from all others. I think Originality is more important than being the biggest etc.
Now, being original is not easy, but i would take a new original coaster over a record breaker any day.
I suppose that it ultimately depends on the person's love of the ride. But then, I find that getting those few rides on that one special coaster will probably mean more than riding every day of your life. *** Edited 6/3/2005 4:06:54 AM UTC by sirloindude***
13 Boomerang, 9 SLC, and 8 B-TR clones
I am excited to hit Holiday World and The Dells next year, but right now I could care less about riding coasters to be honest.

Well you know what, I'm happy I live in a time where I can ride a coaster like this *AND* The Raven. I still don't see the use in not being excited to ride both. Yes Raven blows away most coasters twice it's size, but does that mean we should have 200 Ravens built rather than the variety we have?
How about Mod -er-a-tion.
I agree, though, that if you visit the same parks every year and ride the same coasters, you become disenchanted with them. That is why I am headed for Geauga Lake this year. I need something new to try out other than IJ:ST which I will hit this Wednesday. *** Edited 6/3/2005 6:23:14 PM UTC by Coasterbuzzer***
Burnout is pretty common in our hobby. I took 2 years off from doing anything other than Disney and Universal.
This is what I did the last two years, but I'm ready for something new now, and I'll have to admit that I have been thinking about KK.
Millenium Force was on my #1 steel spot for 4 years before I rode Superman at New England. And having ridden Kingda Ka 2 days ago, I guess I can officially be callled a fanboy of gigantic, or one trick pony steel coasters. Kingda Ka, while very short, absolutely blew me away because I was not prepared for how that kind of speed was going to physically feel on my body. For me KK was all about the speed, the "I can't believe we're going this fast" factor. I love Hypersonic for similar reasons, but mostly for the violent g's felt during the launch.

So what? People line up for the hype of Star Wars movies too. But you know what? If people are enjoying giving into hype, who's to say there's anything wrong with it?I didn't exactly say there was anything wrong with it. Heck, even I waited over four hours to ride the thing on media day a few years ago with only a couple of hundred people present. I was just being sarcastic about a ride technology that I don't actually consider being the best, or even realistic and practical. But, if I paid $12 for a movie that was overhyped and it lasted only 17 seconds, well lets just say I wouldn't be a happy camper...you know?!!
