Better flyer?

I like the vekomas layout better than B&M's but when it comes to loading times and dispatching and capacity its all B&M.

Benz pedal to the metal, hotter than a tea kettle"

I honestly think the Vekoma ride is better. The B&M version is smooth and comfortable, but it's just not that exciting to me. To much 'meandering,' and not enough action.
B&M:
Reliable
Better capacity
Great pretzel loop
Climbing hill in flying position
More comfortable restraints

Vekoma:
Somehow feels more like flying
Best conventional loop on any coaster. Love the dropping sensation at the top.
Great helix
Roll over at top of lift hill

Each has it's own virtues. Both have the inherent fault of any flyer that things just can't happen very fast due to the low G limit imposed by the riding position.

IMHO Knoebels has the best flyers..

Or maybe PKI.

Vekoma for the ride, B & M for the trains.

Still waiting for a custom flyer in an awesome location, using the terrain throughout the ride. Now that would be cool.

Mike Miller - Fits in the Vekoma restraints just fine, thank you.

I really want Disney to do one. Could you imagine a Space Mountain-sized, Peter Pan-style ride done with a B&M flyer?

That would be cool, if you ask me.

Andy - I'm with you on the restraints. I can't for the life of me figure out who could find those to be painful? How can you bang your head off of something that is soft and pull taught against your shoulders? I think the Vekoma flyer restraint is the msot comfortable looping restraint out there (with Apollo's Chariot being most comfortable overall).

I've never ridden the B&M flyer, but honestly after looking at the layout, I'm not excited by it. I'd much rather ride AIR than S:UF, because of the aforementioned interaction with rocks, paths, etc rather than a coaster in a parking lot that really doesn't seem to do all that much. Give me AIR or give me Stealth! (Or XFlight if Stealth isn't readily available ;) )

Oh and Vekoma reliability people - X-Flight was running double-station with no mechanical (but a few GP) issues or breakdowns yesterday! Very impressive I must say ...

Chris, I love your idea...however, Peter Pan is more of a kiddie theme and I'm sure there would be a big ol height limit. Then again, Disney COULD probably come up with a way to make it accomodate smaller bodies and be tamer for the kids.

Just get rid of the pretzel loop on S:UF, and basically you have a flyer that the kids could ride(given, the restraints could accomodate them).

Arena football has arrived in the Windy City. Go "Chicago Rush"

Exactly, Chitown. All that 'meandering' on S:UF would be *so cool* if were done in a totally immersive Disney environment.

I agree 100%!

A random Mooshter's Dawntionary listing: Negligent [adj.] - the condition in which you absentmindedly answer the door in your nightie.

I would think that the Vekoma restraint could be tweaked to accomodate a little kiddo easier than a B&M (assuming that its still a semi-hard horsecollar as the base of the restraint?) If you slapped an X-style movement capacity on the shoulder piece of the seat, I'm sure someone as small as a 3 or 4 year old could fit in a Vekoma seat (although do we really want to subject kids that small to Vekoma already? ;) j/k )

Sounds to me like you are waiting for the proposed flyer (crosses fingers) for Carowinds Smurf Island.

Don't know, haven't been on it yet! ;-)

Air very much counts. As I've posted elsewhere, in many ways it's my favorite of the flyers that have been built so far...
