Personally, I think all the old cartoons were light years ahead of the garbage that kids watch today. If parents would interact with the kids instead of letting the TV be the babysitter, it would all be a non-issue.

Quasi-on-topic, or at least where this topic has ended up... today I learned that before the famous bear books, the Berenstains wrote a series of dirty joke books (scroll down to #1).
Also, I love this description: "an adorable bear family which aggressively judges whichever one of them displays the tiniest of flaws."
