Believe the hype/Don't believe the hype (y2k3 coas

Now that park season has concluded (except for a brief break until Fright Fest, etc.), which "New for 2003" coasters most/least lived up to their billing?

------------------
I was asked to describe Deja Vu in one word and only one word.
Here it is:

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHH!!!!

I don't believe the hype.

------------------
-Brian, who enjoys long walks on the beach, wooden coasters, avoiding being called a "jobber" while keeping it real in the 9Quad.

Top Thrill Dragster lived up to it's hype, when it was running that is.

Superman Ultimate Flight wasn't to bad either.

I forgot about Delirium (PKI). That is one great flat ride.

Yea, TTD was a most ride this year. One of the most intense coasters on the planet!

I'm the youngest member of the group Summore, Holla at ya boy!

TTD was everything I though it would be. Fast Tall and CRAZY!!!

And short.

Yeah that to Panther. I can't think of anything new other and TTD I went on this year. I been to CP,SFWOA,Dorney,SFGADV,SFA,SFDL, Kennywood.. Did I leave anything out?

Well not really a coaster, but you have to include it. Zinga! That ride was all that and a bag of Doritos. I loved that ride, and I am really excited that PKI is adding one next year to their "new" waterpark. I'm really anxious to hear what the HW crew has up their sleeve's for the 2004 season - maybe we'll get another extreme waterslide - that down hill racer thingie that PKI is adding would be great next to Zinga across from ZOOMbabwe. :)

As for TTD, that coaster was sooooo much fun. I got two rides in while I was there and I must say the front is by far the best (1.5 hr waits both times)

Ozark Wildcat exceeded my expectiations and won over my heart, unfortunately my least favorite coaster is also at that park - The JackRabbit, which hurt me big time.

Exceeded my expectations: OzCat @ CC

Short on thrill: TimidDove @ SFEV

We're whalers on the moon, we carry a harpoon, but there ain't no whales so we tell tall tales and sing a whaling tune...

Exceeded the hype - Superman: Ultimate Flight. I liked it far more than I ever expected to. I thought the Vekoma flyers were awful, but this ride is so much fun, even the so-called "dull" spots.

Equaled its hype: Canyon Blaster. If you go in expecting a thrill ride you'll be disappointed, but the second half of this ride (900-degree helix) is fantastic.

Didn't even come close: Top Thrill Dragster. Easily the stupidest thing I've ever waited in line for. What a complete waste of time.

Honorable mentions (rides that were not new this year) include SFNE's S:ROS and the Comet.

Scream didn't cut it as I didn't even realize it was the same layout as my new #1 this year, Medusa East until I got home and checked out RCDB. Good ride, but not what it could have been for some reason or another (see that I thought it's clone was the best looper I ever rode).

TTD lived up. Period.

King Kahuna lived up as I finally rode a Top Spin without getting a massive day-ruining headache.

S:UF lived up at GAdv, great ride and I hope they make another, more intense layout some day.

Zonga was awful. One of the most painful experiences of my life, and that includes breaking my foot on a blocked slapshot ... twice.

Brett
Resident Launch Whore

Rode X and Xcelerator for the first time and they both Xceeded my Xpectations. They totally shook up my ranking scheme being my #1 and #5 coasters respectively.

Superman was eh. The Pretzel loop was good, but the ride crawls through the rest of the course. I guess most of its potential energy is lost in that inversion; it escapes me why a coaster topping 60 mph goes so slow.

Like Brett I also hated zonga. The GP hates zonga. All in favor of lapbars say aye!

Lyrically, I'm supposed to represent
I'm not only a client, I'm the playa president!

Besides being a little rough and missing the so-called "water feature", Nemesis Inferno certainly met any of my expectations. Still not as good as the original, though. ;)
I was very impressed with Delerium at PKI. I'm not much for flat rides, but that one is really fun. Of course, TTD was awesome. 3 rides, one rollback, and going back for more before the season is over!

Wow, really glad I saw that program from atop PR, or I probably would have skipped this one....King Kahuna runs as good as, probably better than, any Top Spin I've ridden. Laughed so hard I cramped up...:)

Better than expected: Zonga, SFMW

About what I expected: S:UF, SFGADV

Worse than expected: Scream!, SFMM

Dragster is the obvious choice. It went beyond my expectations (which were already through the roof!)

Superman Ultimate Flight did not exactly blow me away as expected, but it was still awesome.

I do have to agree that Delirium was the one ride that REALLY lived up to the hype....more than Tomb Raider ever did IMHO. :-)

Didn't get the chance to ride King Kahuna.....but it looks very fun..... in a sick, sadistic sorta way when those evil spurts of water are on full blast. lol

Gimme speed, height, airtime and plenty of LAUNCH!!!

Underachiever - S:UF. The Pretzel Loop is great. The rest is pretty boring.

Overachiever - Delerium @ PKI. Very fun ride.

I also really disliked Zonga. I never liked Schwartzkophs in the first place <ducks> and the OTSR's, bad crew, single train, etc. etc. just made me not like this ride even more.

Funny thing is this month, after a lot of work, Zonga is actually really smooth. It was a nice surprise. A little bit of a letdown would have to be Mindbender at SFOG, not really what I expected.

A great coaster surprise was Tremors at Silverwood. I was so happy. It's great going to a park not knowing the coaster's layout.
