many of my friends and family members have all stopped riding coasters
Mmmmm. Shorter lines ;)
Seriously, if this media coverage of inflated statistics gets to the point that parks start to lose attendence, you can bet that park's will step in and broadcast the truth. Until then, enjoy the shorter lines :)

I don't think this is anything to worry about. It's just stupid people who believe EVERYTHING the right wing media tells them.
Just remember that coasters rock and theyr'e stupid.

dude its true about the brain stuff. i knew it from the beginging
So, I take it that you are a doctor? Or you have been part of a study that investigates the relation between roller coasters and brain damage?
Frankly, I don't think that you are either. Don't believe everything you hear/read from the media.

It's the GP's loss if they don't ride. Just enjoy the shorter lines untill they find out the truth.

Right Wing media? What party does Markey belong to again, I belive it's on the left. Government needs to control everything or at least they think.

It just means shorter lines for the rest of us and I don't think anyone here is gonna complain too much about that.
Most of us have been attending these parks for years and riding the coasters for as long as they've existed and we are all still very much alive so this just goes to show that you can't believe everything you see on tv or read in some stupid magazine, most of it is just a scare tactic in my opinion.
As for our good friend Mr.Ed I often wonder if he had a bad expeirence on a coaster as a kid and maybe that's just one of many reasons why he hates them and the parks that operate them so much.

Don't wish too hard for shorter lines. Shorter lines means less income for the parks. Less income means fewer new rides.
I don't think that too many people will be turned off to the parks. Most know that the media tends to blow everything out of proportion. Just so the lawmakers don't stick their noses in too far.

The worst day at Cedar Point is better than the best day at work.
If your average "GPer" doesn't think smoking 2 packs a day will kill him, he's probably not scared of coasters, either.

Yep, uhuh. The media is right wing. Uhuh. Yep, sure. Uh, ever hear of NBC, MSNBC, CBS, ABC, or CNN? All of them are left wing. The media is left wing smart one.
Oh, and BTW, Markey is a Democrat, so shut your piehole and go find facts.
And as Brent said, "
OK STOP IT NOW HARRISON OR YOU ARE GONNA GET YOURSELF IN TROUBLE!!!
I am gonna go kick my own ass now..."
EDIT: Ok, I'm done kcking my ass now. Anyways, right or left wing, the media is TOTALLY wrong on this issue. Don't buy into their b/s. Coasters are f-in' safe if you ride them correctly and w/o pre-existing conditions that may be aggravated by the ride. Anyways...the moral of the story... be smart when riding, and you'll come off fine! Now get you fat asses off your chairs a ride a damn coaster, will ya??? That's where I'll be tomm. (drools thinking of Ghostie...)

right wing media. hehe. That's the funniest thing i've heard in a while. Especially since protecting people from hurting themselves is something that the Democrats love to do. But I'll bet that you think the Democrats are merely moderate members of the right wing.
On the topic, though, most people are aware that the media sensationalizes anything. It'll just keep the stupid people away. You know, the type who try to stay in the train for 5 minutes after they ride and slow everyone down.
Whenever a story like this is published or broadcast, there will always be people who will see it as the "truth."
For example, a while back, a local news station broadcast a story about a woman who was injured while boiling water in her microwave. According to the report, the water reached its boiling temperature, but didn't actually boil. As soon as she disturbed the surface of the water, it basically exploded into her face as it boiled all at once. The report failed to mention that the chances of this occurring are insanely small. I knew a person who swore they would never use the microwave again.
What's my point? The point is, you can't worry about everything you see or hear about. If you do, you'll find yourself living in a padded room with a strait jacket.
I, personally, have been going to parks and carnivals since I can remember, and I've always felt safe doing so. Because I know that it is one of the safest activities a person can enjoy.
So, don't let the men in the suits worry you. As a very wise man once said: "It'll all come out in the wash."
Riding a roller coaster is a risk, there, I said. Roller Coasters are NOT %100 safe. But they are the safest form of thrill out there. You are more likely to die going down the highway at 60mph with your Firestone tires than going 93mph on MF. There is no complelty safe form of entertainment, but coasters are one of the safest. I think it is your chances of being hospitalized due to a accident in a amusement park is 1 in 500 million. I could be wrong on that but I think that is what it was.
Anyway, who cares if they won't ride. Maybe they will start a trend and the queue lines will slowly become less and less full.
