Asp.net/Htm Question

I’m just nosey and I was wondering if there are any reasons why it appears htm file are parsed with the asp.net engine? I’m not criticizing anything on the site I’m just wondering if there are any reasons,I like the site very much...very nice work!
Because that's a lot "easier" and more flexible than hand-making them?

I believe Jeff had the same idea as the people over at RCDB.com. They say
"The real heart of the site is a custom ISAPI (Internet Server Application Programming Interface) extension. It produces all of the web pages and provides the interaction between the web server and the database server."

Oops didn't mean to hit reply quite yet, and I can't find an edit button. Anyways, since Jeff can control all his servers, because they are at his house, I think he is just trying a new idea.

You're on the right track.

If you look over at Sillynonsense.com, you'll see that every page has a "channel=23" type of string in the URL. Basically that tells CliqueSite Content engine to load certain user controls and content into the page's placeholders. That's cool and all, but the URL's aren't pretty and you're stuck using the same page template every time.

The new version improves on that idea. It sees the incoming request for an .htm page (or any file extension I choose), and looks up to see what "channel" it's associated with. Then, not only does it figure out what to load into that page, but which page template to load it into. That's why photos appear in a page without the sidebar.

Granted, there are lots of other things going on in the background as well, like stat keeping, altering the action attribute of the form tag, caching, permission checking, etc. The greatest benefit is that, once the site is really "done," I don't have to do anything outside of a browser to maintain it, and I can just let it run for another three years.
