Arrow Shuttle loopers, how are they?

*Real*, that's in the eye of the beholder, LOL...

As far as an Arrow shuttle loop, I remember hearing that one of them had an *elevator* to take you to the top....the worst sets of stairs I've had to walk so far were at IB....but they were WORTH it...:)

Hey look, gator finally posted a TR...;)

check out the Revolution to. As loads of people said already, great airtime. If you get to ride a few times, spend 1 ride looking sideways... its great visually!

It might have to do with Frontier City still having the old original arrow trains from the lightning loops. They haven't been refurbished since 1977.

No that is a 3rd Generation Arrow Train used on Diamond Back. I belive it was built in the late 80's for Knott's Corkscrew as the 3rd Train, After Knott's removed the Corkscrew it went to Silverwood. Silverwood decided they had no need for the 3rd Train so they sold it to Frontier City where they used it on Diamond Back.

IF it did still have the original trains from 1977 It would be most likley had been Double Nosed and would have a lot less leg room.

Here are a Couple of Pictures of the Lightning Loop Trains:

Here's a Picture of the Diamond Back Trains:

If you look real close the these pictures you can see the difference of the Trains (look at the shape of the noses in front of each car).

The only thing I belive needs to be done with Diamond Back is that they need to put a pad on the sharp edges of the nose sections of each car so I won't cut my knee on it when the Air Time occures. Other than that its a smooth ride, B&M smooth. If you want smoother we got a nice ride for you at WOF called the Wacky Worm.

Yup the 3rd pic is definitely of an Arrow corkscrew train where as the other 2 pics show the double nosed trains originally used just for that type of design.

I compared the pics with one that I took of Python back in 98 & recognize that blue & white train anywhere.

Chitown, Fun Spot is a very little park buts its worth a visit. It has a very nice kiddy area and some nice animals although the zoo is nothing spectacular at all. It has a set of fliers, a bayern curve and some other nice flats. It is quite seedy but I woudlnt hessitate going there during the day, leaving around 3 and going to the evening ride session at Indiana Beach. Afterburner is worth the trip alone IMO but I would likely add in IB if i was coming from the west.

It woudl make a good day trip from Chicago an easy one at that.

Finally the Arrow Shuttle Loops are getting some love. Like J., I have spent quite a bit of time with Sidewinder @ SFEG and I do think it is the best ride in the park. As has been said, the airtime is great anywhere on the train, and the fact that the restraints are old and do not always come down very tight makes the airtime even better.

For me the money seat is last car, first row. That way you get this really cool effect of seeing all of the other cars drop out of site before you go over the drop. You also get better airtime over the drop and g's through the loop IMO from being pulled over the drop.

Also, while you are in the back seat be sure to say hi to the operator on the far side of the ride. That can be a lonely job, and human contact is appreciated. :)

Enjoy your ride!

i was fortunate enough to ride camden parks' arrow shuttle loop the last day of it's operation back in 1999. even on the last day of operation the ejector air was so intense that on the drop in the front row my legs flew up and slammed into the top of the coaster train. it was just ridiculous air.

Just a word of caution. This particular ride was featured (last year, I believe) in a Norton Auction flyer. Either it didn't sell, or the auction didn't come off, but I've heard that it's still for sale. A phone call before you hit the road would be prudent.
No need for a phone call. Its sitting in my backyard. Believe me its there.

It has been up for sale for many years now.

And from what I've heard and experienced, catching Afterburner on a day that it is actually open can be a crapshoot. I didn't get to ride it because when they launched it for its morning test run it went about 10 feet and stopped. If it doesn't look like it's going to be open, hunt down Skip the head mechanic. You'll find him on his trusty golf cart. If you ask him what time Afterburner is going to open, you just MIGHT get a "Maybe" out of him. :)

I put the "D" in DDR.

A few hours downtime everyday is a normal day but its worth it.

Just stay off Zyklon right Chris? ;)

Incidently it only ran one train after your "incident" Chris

As the Rock would say,,,,,,

Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, WHOA!!!!!!

If this coaster is a crap shoot as to whether it will be open or not , I might just nix my plans of driving out there.

Arena football has arrived in the Windy City. Go "Chicago Rush"

It most likely will be open when you are there, you just may have to wait a while at the park. It was operating every day i was there last year but it had quite a bit of downtime throughout the day. There are plenty of other things at the park though and like I said make a trip with IB as well. To go just for Funspot would be stupid frankly.

I'd talk to a few more people before I nix your plans completely. It was closed for me when I visited, as it was closed for quite a few people I've talked to, but I realize that our experiences probably total about less than 10 days total, so maybe we're all just unlucky!

For the record, after our initial bad luck, Rob, Kristin and Kara went back later in the summer and got to ride Afterburner. And then on the way home they visited me at work to brag about it...bastrads ;)

From what they had to say, it might be worth the trip out there for you since it sounds like this is a genuinely frightening coaster. Frightening both in the sense that it is a good ride and in the sense that it looks like it could fall apart any second.

And I second Brent on ending the day at Indiana Beach!

Well I really didn't mean the 1977 thing literally, but thanks for taking me seriously redman and sawblade. I know they've gone through a couple of refurbishments. I didn't know that it was the corkscrew's train though. That's pretty interesting.

Pray for mojo...

Need not worry about my IB plans. :)

That is already a given this year after the great trip I had in 2002. Coming from Chicago though, it seems out of the way to hit Funspot and then trek down to IB.

But you are right Duckboy. I probably should include both for my next trip into Indiana.

Arena football has arrived in the Windy City. Go "Chicago Rush"

Its not really out of the way Chitown. Take the toll road out to angola. Go to Funspot, head down I-69 to US 24 which is a good four lane road all the way to Monticello well up until Logansport its 4 Lane. And then back home Via I-65

It's not really that big of a trip.

Or if you want you could come out and see us in Denver. Sidewinder operates most of the time.

Denver is a bit more then a day trip from Chicago, Mustang ;)

I think Mustang wants some other buzzers to talk to. I guess I would be too if I had to talk to a letter(with a period) and a bathroom toy. :) The Mile High buzzer count is kinda low.
