ARROW DESIGNING VIRGINIA REEL

http://www.arrowdynamics.com/rides.php?rtype=Virginia%20Reel  Id like to ride one of these.  What parks would want one of these old time thrills.
They have them in plans. They aren't building one though because no park wan't one. There is a difference.

It's not nearly as exciting as it looks.  Instead of designing it to reflect the Virginia Reel designs of the past, Arrow is simply using their new Virginia Reel cars on mine train track.  Someone uploaded a photofrom an Arrow brochure to another group's files section; you can see that here: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/RollerCoasterTalk/files/LONNOL/reel.jpg

Arrow has been working on one for a long time..  Wasn't it back around the time they built their flying turns prototype?  I thought it was abandoned, but it looks like they've ressurrected this project!

Flying turns project?  Is that the same as the pipeline project?

I still think that putting these cars on mine train track will be a welcomed change.   Arrow keeps innovating!

I guess I don't understand how this project is so innovating when Reverchon and Mack have been putting spinning cars on their coasters for years.  Arrow should have at least just called the line "spinning coasters" rather than play on an old concept that their coaster doesn't really even represent.

Looks like fun... i think there is already an older coaster like this... except seating 1 person and very small...

Flying turns are very similar to the Intamin/Mack bobsled coasters.  It's a term that was used to describe them back in the 20's and 30's.

Coasterdude is right. This really isn't too inovative. Sure, it's cool that mine track can handle these cars, but really it's nothing more than a themed tea cup car minus the spinning control on a track. The main difference from the Mack and Reverchon spinners would be you face in instead of out (which I think would make a better ride because you could see the faces of the other passengers)

I still would love to ride of of these puppies. I expierienced my first Arrow Wild mouse coaster last season and loved, i think id dig this too. It goes to show that height and speed dont always make a coaster.

An Old-Style V.R., with some decent speed, would be a FANTASTIC ride.  The likelihood of that happening - Miss Cleo says "not looking good"...this is NOT that kind of ride.  Realistically, 20 mph on the old ones would be plenty fast...but I really like Arrow's mine trains too!

Well, then, when I actually have fun on an Arrow coaster I'll let you know.  It's happened about three times (out of 22 Arrow coasters I've ridden).  Not a very good record.  Like I said above, I don't see how it's fair to give Arrow any credit for designing a spinning coaster when Mack and Reverchon have been doing it for years.

Does Arrow pay you to come up with those nifty little slogans?

arrow has been talking about building a virginia reel since about 1980. i rode the one at revere beach (which was the largest at 70 ft.), and the cars did not spin that much. the operators used to make you sit across from one another so it would not spin. it had a loose seat belt and you held on by putting your arms on the bar in back of the car. the climax of the ride was a dark tunnel. this ride closed in 1969.
Ok.  I didn't mean to make this into a flame war.  The tone of that post was probably misinterpreted.  I like Arrow, I enjoy their rides.  I guess some people have differing opinions.  I just thought it was interesting to see Arrow put a new twist on an old ride.

No, Arrow does not pay me to have an opinion, I came up with that all by myself.

I am sorry if I sounded snotty, I didn't mean it.

Let's all just enjoy roller coasters and I'll shut up so we don't have to argue about these stupid, petty things.

Thanks for the pic.........I really hoped they were recreating everything, including the track and the "teeth" around the barrel. RCT's looks better!

Rather than a new car on existing styles, I would LOVE to see a recreating of the original Virginia reels!  I wish I could have ridden one of the originals.
