Are you ever scared?

Yes, I still manage to let myself get scared on a few coasters. Strangely enough it's not the big ones though. For some reason, Wildcat always gives a shiver - those little cars just whizzing around that small gauge track. I also get that feeling on the Ninja at SFStL when you crawl up the lift hill past the 2nd inversion. I'm usually thinking "Boy, I'd hate to get stuck there..."

Generic, isn't it?

I'm usually afraid that when I get to a park the rides I really want to go on will be closed that day.

Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former." - Albert Einstein

The only one to give me any type of aprehension was my first trip on MF. I remember going up the hill thinking we must be near the top and looking around the seat in front of me and realizing that there is still a little ways to go.

Green Power Tower scares me to death. The lift on MF scares me just because of the speed and the lack of stairs.

Anytime I get on a new coaster, I have some apprehension. This, to me, is what makes it exciting. If you aren't afraid of a huge new coaster, then what's the big deal riding it?

Also, my wait for a new large coaster is generally proportionate to how frightened I will be. If I walk right on, I don't have time to get scared. If I have a two-hour wait, I'll be shaking by the time I get on. It's all part of the fun, in my book.

I still have yet to ride an impulse even though my home park has one. [...] I must say that I am more than a little intimidated by these things as I am afraid of heights and these puppys are pretty high

I am also scared of heights, but I LOVE the impulse coasters _because_ they scare me. I have ridden Vertical Velocity at Six Flags Great America countless times, and I'm still nervous before riding .. Particularly waiting for the launch.

I also find that my body reacts quite a bit the first time up the back spike, I can feel my heart race, and I break out in sweat. Oddly, the second trip up the back spike affects me less.

Whenever I get off the ride, I am visually shaking, and my hands are all tingly from holding the restraints to tightly.

However, I really like the ride .. I got on it four times on Sunday (a cold rainy mothers day, the park was deserted). It's not my favorite in the park (can't beat Viper!), but I still enjoy riding it, and the natural high I feel afterwards.

For reference, I don't ride the giant drops (the climb up just kills me!), and I try to sit on the 'stairs' side of the lift hill so the height doesn't get to me as much.

One word, Hypersonic! I have ridden over 100 coasters, and have never screamed like a girl like I did on that thing. When I was placed onto the launch section while on that ride, I almost wanted off the thing I was so scared. Most intense, scariest coaster I have been on. Hands.....Down! I doubt I will ever go on another coaster that will give me quite that feeling again.

P.S. I am one of the (few) Hypersonic: XLC lovers out there, aside from the rides problems, of course : )

thats funny that this topic is up here, up until about 4 years ago i wouldnt go near any coaster that looped, i was afraid i was going to fall out, but then i went on Revolution at SFMM and have been addicted ever since, that day even i rode VIPER 7-9 times in a row, that was nuts

I had a wierd dream last night though, i was riding DEJA VU in the front row at SFMM and on the first pull back, the otsr failed and i fell out, kinda wierd

The only coaster I was really scared of was SROS at SFNE-my first hyper.

"Take me with you. I want to climb the 208' of Superman, hurl through five inversions on Batman, and freefall 20 stories on Scream. I don't throw up....I can entertain in long lines!!"

Coasters don't get to me at all. Even my first ride on MF at CP was nothing more than being excited. I have even been Skydiving (I jumped from 14,000 ft. with two jumpmasters by my side but not attaced to me and totally by myself after I pull the ripcord) and didn't find it scary (although I think I might have been in shock).

For me, the only rides that got to me the first time I rode them was Power Tower at CP and Drop Zone at PKI. Oh, and I still hate climbing ladders. Go figure.

I am scared of ferris wheels. I am afraid I am gonna fall out because there is nothing holding me in.
I was a bit apprehensive when I first saw Hypersonic: XLC launch in person, and as I climbed the lift hill of X at Six Flags Magic Mountain...

I just get all excited and anxious before I go on coasters. Especially ones I've never ridden before. It's the flat rides that get me. Although, I have been pretty good with them lately. I just rode Meteor and Hangtime and they were awesome!

I love any coaster and any flat ride but nothing and noone could get me on a ferris wheel. I wouldn't go on a ferris wheel if someone payed me a million dollars. They are so darn scary. I always think that it will tip over or ill fall out somethinng like that.

Touch The Sky

There have been a couple along the way that have scared me:

1st Time on Ghostrider- My first coaster, besides those at Disneyland (DCA wasn't there yet) I specifically remember hating airtime, and wondering how anyone could like that feeling.. (Talk about a change of heart!)

1st Time on Supreme Scream- My first drop ride, and once again, its a big one. Of course the ascent was nerveracking, but I liked the ride. It still freaked me out the next few times. (I still love this ride!)

Millenium Force- As many people here have said, its just so intimidating.. I was more nervous in the station than I was at anytime on the ride. I even had my hands up after the first drop!

VertiGO- Here is one ride that I still would be nervous to ride. I have only done it twice, but trying it again would freak me out. Its one of my favorites, maybe because its just plain scary!!

Xcelerator-
0-82 in 2.3 seconds! =Wow!

I was scared my first time on Carolina Cyclone (my first looper). I was also scared my first time on the Skycoaster at Carowinds, but I love it now. I know for sure that I will be freaked out this summer at CP on Millie.

800,000 years in 7 seconds: Time Machine the movie or next S&S creation?

I can only think of two particular coasters that scare me. Any stand up ride, I dont trust my legs nor the harnesses but I go on anyway. And the Jack Rabbit at Kennywood, the combination of that double dip and the extremely minimal restraints freaks me out everytime.

"Looks like you've been missing quite a bit of work lately"
"Well, I wouldn't say I've been MISSING it, Bob."

well.... i really like coasters, and ive been an enthusiast ever since i rode my first two coasters when i was four-- greezed lightnin and viper (SFAW) i do feel much safer on Anton Schwartzkopf's creations. Maybe because they were my first two and they give me a feeling of security. i do get afraid of standups. ever since i rode on that Batman, the escape (trust me, its rougher than they say), i get the strangest feeling that standups are not as safe as they are cracked up to be.

On the seventh day, God created coasters!

I'm normally quite used to coasters and the heights and such but there have been and definitely are exceptions :-)

The first thing that comes to mind immediately is the "OMG, We're all going to DIE!" slammer on the first drop of the Riverside Cyclone. Getting a little air has never frightened me but the massive bang of the car plummetting down the drop accompanied by ones waist riding the lap bar the rest of the way down the hill (and *HARD* at that!) was enough to get *this* heart racing :-)

Hmm...what else?

The first time I went to PCW in 1994 I remember riding the front of the Mighty Canadian Minebuster. At that point I thought of myself as a "hardened" coaster fan, *I* wouldn't have any problem holding my hands up on anything without even giving it a second thought. Of course at that point my only experience with buzz bars had been the Blue Streak @ CP...and as such I wasn't prepared for the insane airtime that the Minebuster delivered in those days. I remember cresting the first big air hill and suddenly realizing that I was riding at least 6 inches off the seat with only the buzz bar holding me in! I was more than a little scared and spent the rest of the ride ooched down in my seat with my knees braced on the front of the car (but still with my hands up, ah the pride of a 14 year old :-) to keep myself from flying out!

The only other one that stands out is a ride I took on Magger on closing day of 2000. For some reason on the way up the lift hill in my customary back seat I started freaking out about the looseness of my lap bar (as Magnum fans will tell you wheel seats are the best because you can put your feet up on the raised metal covers and get extra space between yourself and the bar) The end result was a huge "tummy tickle" all the way down the first drop for the first time in years, it's a shame that I can't get worked up like that more often :-)
