Are we saying Good Bye to Great Adventures Greta

Tekwardo's avatar

Not really. They have not major flats to speak of ;).

Seriously, though, the only thing I thought the park lacked was flats. The big empty areas were flats used to be weren't that attractive, and I thought the rest of the park looked nice and was well done, even the older areas.

Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened.

Yeah, The GAdv Fan IS spoiled but the parks that make the money get the rides.

I really like the name Greata! Never heard it before this thread...

Of course it wouldn't be Phantom's Revenge with fixed trains - but a HUGE improvement.

Even with their (cough, cough) somewhat 'limited' layouts - I believe many of the old Arrow loopers would be fun and a big draw, with more comfortable (non-OTSR) trains.

Scream Machine can still pull a line, it was around 40 minutes on April 1st, I left the line after it barely moved in 10 minutes though to be fair I heard Kingda Ka was 2 1/2 hours the same day. The only coaster with a line under 30 minutes was The Dark Knight. That is the exception I know since most of my other trips to the park it had no line but I usually try to go on slow days so nothing really had lines more than 5 - 10 minutes on most of my trips so far this season.

It really is a problem, there have been days this season where there have been 5 or 6 total rides operating that are not either a kiddie ride or a coaster. Even right now all there is operating is: Parachutes, Big Wheel, Houdini, Congo Rapids, Log Flume, Teacups, Jolly Roger, Buccaneer, Fantasy Fling, Carousel, Skyway and Twister. 12 rides total and 3 of them are seasonal (water rides and Houdini), plus the Skyway and Parachutes are closed a lot because of wind.

As much as I want some new flats and family rides like an interactive dark ride, the park really needs to get all the SBNO rides open first and running on a regular basis before adding anything else.

I really am sad about this if it's true.

I love GASM, and hit the ride up quite a bit when at the park.

what you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard.
Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it.
I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.

It does. Which is so ironic.

IMHO, I think there is absolutely no reason to put Chang at Six Flags Great Adventure, especially at the expense of GASM. If Six Flags had any common sense (please hold your laughter), they would move Chang to another park that could use another coaster like Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, Six Flags Over Texas, or maybe even Six Flags St. Louis. I wont say that GASM isnt a bit rough at times, but why destroy one of the largest looping roller coasters so you can add a 13 year old stand up roller coaster ?? Are you that desperate to compete with Magic Mountain, home to Riddler's Revenge ? If in fact the park wants to add Chang, there has got to be some unused space out there where the coaster could go. I would imagine with a bit of engineering the coaster could fit in the spot where Batman&Robin used to be, between Nitro and Dark Knight. Or somewhere behind that walkway leading towards Medusa...eh Bizarro. Im just thinking of ways that Six Flags could save a favorite of ours and still recycle Chang if need be.

Are you MAN ENOUGH to ride this ride ?

Six Flags Great Adventure pulls from one of the largest populated areas in the country. I don't think anyone is complaining and saying that it shouldn't get another ride above smaller parks, or parks that have recently or are going to be getting a new ride. And they're not in any way competing with Magic Mountain, a park 4000 miles away.

Someone somewhere said that there were 2 options to add Chang to GADv, and the cheaper option was to replace GASM.

Granted, there hasn't been an announcement yet, so we don't even know if Chang is headed there. But right now the company is going to do what it must to cut costs, add attractions, and make money. If taking out GASM and adding in Chang does that for them, that's what they'll do.

I think it needs to be considered that S&S owns the Arrow line of products, and seems more interested in selling new product than handling the "repair accounts" for the old Arrow lines. Big Bad Wolf, Eagle's Fortress, GAm's Shockwave, GAdv' GASM...there's been discussion that KI's Vortex needs considerable track replacement as well....is it next on the chopping block?

Hoping for AVMatt's sake that the Arrow suspendeds won't go away entirely...

I think that SFGAdv should get an additional coaster, and not just replace one. Because of the park's popularity, they need more rides.

And coasterhound made a very good point. Isn't GASM still the tallest looping coaster in the world.

Actually I think Viper is a smidgen taller, by about 15ft

GASM is one of the tallest looping coasters. I know Viper at SFMM is taller and if you count the 4th Dimension coasters, those are taller as well.

I'm a huge fan of the Arrow megaloopers. I never got on Shockwave but I appreciated the power and intensity of Vortex, GASM, and SFMM's Viper even if they are rougher than comparable coasters from different manufacturers. I would be a little sad if GASM went away for Chang. Only because I don't see it as a step forwards as far as capacity or ride quality. Standups in my opinion aren't the most comfortable rides and they aren't people eaters. I think this would be more of a step sideways for the park.

off topic: I've always referred to the SFoG and SFGAdv rides as OrGASM and GASM-II respectively.

On topic:

Well I think simply the "newness" of Chang would be a step up from GASM-II. Whenever I visited GAdv, GASM-II was a near walk-on. I would think that at least for a couple of years, Chang would be able to generate lines and pull people off the midways.

And along with the "newness", it will draw a big crowd because Chang is an awesome ride! It's not just your average "meh" stand-up coaster. It rocks. The best of its breed.

And sorry GASM fans, but that ride is TERRIBLE. I'm not sure how anyone can enjoy 2 minutes of head-banging. To me it is way past its prime, and anyone who "enjoys" it must be trying very hard to do so. Tear it down.

Have you ridden Riddlers Revenge at Magic Mountain? Most people I know who has ridden it says it's their favorite. It is definitely my favorite B&M Stand-up.

I prefer both Chang and Georgia Scorcher to Riddler any day.

^You've spent too much time at Skooter's. :)

For me, the pecking order goes as follows: Riddler, Scorcher, SkyRider at PCW, pile of steaming poo (aka, all the rest - the other Beemers and KD's Shockwave).

You still have Zoidberg.... You ALL have Zoidberg! (V) (;,,;) (V)

Yeah I've done all three (scorcher included) and Chang has always been my favorite

And this isn't even my point. Chang is my favorite, but that's obviously debatable. My point is it's 100x better than the Great Amount of Scrap Metal

Don't really like calling people out, but you really haven't ridden The Riddler's Revenge at all have you?
